- I have had the unique opportunity to drum tech for the legendary Tom Hunting of Exodus for a number of tours over the past year and a half...Tom is one of the best drummers in thrash metal and a true pioneer!! This past tour with Slayer and Rob Zombie was amazing, as I got to sit in on a nightly drum clinic by Tom and Dave Lombardo of Slayer.These guys are true pros, and it was a great experience watching and learning from them both..but this video is all about the speed and power of Tom Hunting and the mighty Exodus!!!!

Tom`s drumming is beyond anything. His timing is perfect and he is still doing it at age 50. Live, he entirely matches the drumming on records. Apart from Thrash drumming he is also able to play softer rock shit. I cannot think of anyone hitting the toms (haha) so hard except maybe Mr. Paul De Marco from Rose Tattoo. Tom gives it all at any show.
This is an absolute clinic in THRASH drumming ......tom is the best.

You know, I just typed in "Tom Hunting" on purpose just now and I'm so glad I did. It's too bad he (Or Exodus for that matter) just isn't considered in the top tier of thrash drummers. Like it or not, everyone knows Lars, Dave Lombardo, and maybe Gene Hoglan but not many know the drummer for Exodus by name. Why is that? Ugh. Killer drummer! Super surgical like precision! He's been one of my favorite since Bonded By Blood. Killa drummer!

subjects like these, make thrash metal something legendary, musicians like tom who do not aspire to be known, they really keep showing how things are done like in the old school, always giving those live shows that kick your ass, showing an experience playing the drums really of a pioneer of the genre, they are really the essence of this style, low profile and a lot of talent with effort !!! totally legendary !!! respect
Man... seen Tom quite a lot of times live and this footage really captures the brilliance of his playing style: VERY fast, VERY tight accurate and VERY original, especially his breaks. This is a thrash metal drummer second to NONE!!!

For those whining about the crowd: There are permanent seats at DTE, there is no room to move, unless you want to start a pit on a staircase.
It's on a hill, the covered 'Pavilion' section where the stage is has no open space, the Lawn is where the action happens. You can't see the Lawn in this video.

Tom Hunting is 1 of the absolute best metal drummers ever! Dave Lombardo, Gene Hoglan, Charlie Benante, Jason Bittner, Paul Bostaph, Ya, those guys are all killer drummer and NO, None of them is underrated, EVERYONE knows how good these guy's are, They wouldn't still be around from the 80's if they were criminally underrated....

all of you who are saying the crowd is weak obviously dont know the venue, i go there every summer and i was at this concert, for one the only crowd you can see from the camera is the PAVILLION, the lawn is pretty far back and the mosh pit is not going to be up against the railing its farther back then the camera can show.
