Tom Hunting is a FUCKING MONSTER on the kit. So underrated...in terms of thrash drummers, he deserves to be mentioned right up there with the likes of Lombardo and Benante. And Gibson is no slouch either. I love how Andy Sneap captures his bass attack...he manages to find a perfect frequency pocket for Gibson's bass to sit in among the guitars on Exodus' recent albums. It allows you to clearly hear every note he plays, while not taking away from the rest of the music. It's very similar to DD Verni's bass lines in Overkill....lots of clarity, but it doesn't overwhelm the sound.

Rapid aggressive flams and beats on that kick drum during the verse and pre-chorus. Listening to Exodus since I was a young kid in the 80's, Tom Hunting has carved that thrash beat into my skull. Amazing performance and sound from these two fellas.

Lars is 100 times more unique whether you like him or not. Tom is just a compact, basic trash drummer. Does kinda the bare minimum, & all the generic tricks. Some cool signature fills etc. here & there, but hardly an innovator. And all the comments comparing these basic trash drummers to guys like Hoglan etc. are obviously casuals, non-drummers. Like comparing an apple to a whole tree of them.

Re listened to this recently (on my HS 7s 😏), for a start Tom is an absolute beast! These two together are a dream team in terms of a thrash metal rythem section and finally Jacks bass tone crushes, it sits so well in the final mix 👂🤌

Gene Hoglan, Lombardo, I’d say Thomas Haake and Danny Carey are also some of the best drummers out there. Any of these (Hunting included) can blow your mind any day.
Tom Hunting puts Lars to shame any day, as do Dave Lombardo and Charlie Benante, but Tom and Exodus are too underrated. Compare That was Just Your Life to The Last Act of Defiance and you will see the clear winner.
The best thrash metal drummers for me are, 1, Dave Lombardo. 2, Charlie Benantte. 3,Tom hunting. 4, Paul Bostaph. But there's Nick menza ( in my opinion the best drummer for Megadeath) Gene hoglan is a brilliant drummer, but for me he's more of a death metal drummer, and the best death metal drummer is by far Steve ashiem of deicide.
