Review of Sportneer bicycle trainer stand

  • I am especially impressed by the ease of use of this bike trainer stand. From opening the box to turning the pedals took about 4-5 minutes and set-up could not have been easier, particularly for a bike with quick-release wheels so no tools are necessary. It involved nothing more than replacing the quick-release axle from my wheel with that supplied with the trainer stand, slotting the bike into place and securing it a large lever clamp then placing the front wheel on the supplied non-slip wheel pad. Rear wheel resistance is set by adjusting the resistance wheel until it just touches the bike tyre and resistance is adjusted via a dial which clips onto the front handlebars.
    Once set up, the bike feels completely secure with no wobble and pedaling is just like being out on the road. There is inevitably some noise from the rear wheel but even when used on a lino-covered suspended floor, it was little more than a low hum. Resistance adjustments via the dial were very effective and particularly noticeable on the upper three levels. It doesn't include any sort of bike computer for calculating cadence, virtual speed or distance covered but should work with a simple wireless bike computer fitted to the rear wheel. The front wheel doesn't rotate but remains held securely in a wheel pad with non-slip feet.
    I'm not a sporty or athletic cyclist but a leisure cyclist who enjoys touring and occasional bike-packing, ie camping with my bike. I miss it during the winter months in the rain, fog, cloud and murk then every spring always feel unfit. This indoor bike trainer now allows me to use my familiar bike year-round, whatever the weather without it being an effort or time-consuming to set-up. The more sporty will probably choose to use it for speed-training and as an alternative to visiting a gym - so it is useful for all fitness levels and for any bike with 26-29"/700c wheels. When not in use it folds to a neat, compact size (56x46x16cm) and can be easily stored under a bed.

    Yes agree it is a damn good device. I am 74 my bike is a 1971 Schwinn Suburban road bike with 10 speeds and upright handle bars, I know BUT, I love it. Lately had trouble on the treadmill and found this little guy. 5 Minutes tops I was flying through the country in low rate then gear it up for a hill oh the agony. Quick down shift. OK lets do those after a bit for conditioning. Smooth, good looking, easy to use and very very good for my old body to get a great workout. Thank You D

    Thank you!! Thank you!!! You get the hero of the day award. No one else explains the axle part of this. The instructions said a mere "Detach the axle of your bicycle's back wheel. Replace the axle with the quick release." If you were a modern bicycle expert that might make total sense. I bought my Takara (Fugi knock off) waaaay back in 1976. 43 years later with a torn meniscus she's back out of hyper-ethereal storage to help me with some non load bearing exercise recommended by my physical therapist. This is the only video that actually demonstrates up close what they are talking about and how to put the quick release into the proper slot. I'll bite on the other properties, it was an excellent buy; but ease, no. Not the first time, not if you haven't been tinkering around with this for a while, like four decades to be exact. "Stationary" was not my thing until now. Glad I bought a bike with a quick release so long ago.

      I'm pleased it helped. I would always choose a bike with quick release rather than have to mess around with spanners at the roadside, usually in pouring rain.

      @@klwsproductreviews6148 yes it proved to be very easy, once I had your video in hand, and the bike is now up and spinning in the family room, we can only hope the meniscus heals and the bike goes back on the road as well, my only comment now is it would be 'the extra finesse if they provided clips to stick the parts together when storing away, i.e. I'm considering some Velcro to attach the front stand and a way to wind the cable graciously i.e. Velcro straps, but all in all the product is a winner, very stable, does sit pretty high.

    It also helps if you use the bike gears for more resistance

    I just got this the other day and I love it. Took only a few minutes to set up. My only question is that I have a quick release axle and even though, they still tell you to replace it with the one they give you. I did not and it works fine. What is the difference between theirs and a standard quick release and should I change it even though it works fine?

    • @klwsproductreviews6148
      @klwsproductreviews6148  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably for those bikes which aren't fitted with quick-release. Mine is so I haven't used it with a non-quick release wheel.

    To be specific the joint you see in the tape after 43" minutes is not yje same and does not fit as well in our red model.

    Was looking at this Sportneer but bought the Yaheetech which was cheaper, delivered faster and is exactly the same. Just set it up today. Make sure you get a seat cushion/pad! Several of these Chinese magnetic trainers are exactly the same as Sportneer. I guess the Sportneer sounds more English?

    I ordered a sportneer bike trainer based on the reviews and posted information. It came today in a box that looked like it had been dragged across the country. The cable for the tension adjustment had separated from the trainer and pieces of the trainer were loose in the box. Will have to send it back but this does not give me confidence in this product.

    any recommendations for an indoor trainer tire - seems that my 27.5 x 2.10 size is very rare (?) - i know i can use my current outdoor tire but imagine it will wear out quickly

    • @klwsproductreviews6148

      Not really an expert on this. I've just used it with my normal bike and 29 x 1.75" tyre, used out on real roads during lockdown and in good weather.

    Great review. 2 things 1) what is the max watts on this trainer 2) how does this compare to the wahoo kickr snap? Seems like it has most of the same features

    • @klwsproductreviews6148
      @klwsproductreviews6148  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use my bike regularly, often on rough ground, and there is more wear on the rear tyre than the front, However, I can't conclusively blame the trainer because I normally travel heavily laden with panniers.

    Hello,
    Thank you for the review !
    I just installed it on my bike and it's incredibly noisy.... Could it be because of all the grooves in the tire ? (I'm using a mountain bike)

    • @klwsproductreviews6148
      @klwsproductreviews6148  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure. My bikes have rugged 1.95" and 2" tyres and the trainers is very quiet - just a low hum. Perhaps reduce the resistance incase it's especially tight....??

      @@klwsproductreviews6148 I tried, it didn't work. I think I'm just going to have to buy a tyre specially made for these or at least a smoother one. Thank you :)

      Update : the noise was indeed due to the grooves in the tire. I purchased a home-trainer smooth tire and now it's just making a faint humming noise (just in case someone needs the info)

      It could be because of the tyre treed
      If they are Road tyres 700c it won't make to much noise -
      If they are mountain bike tyres with a lot of treed it will be noisier.

    I set the bike trainer up with no problem, but I can’t get any resistance when I pedal. It’s way too easy. When I turn the dial from 1 to 6 nothing happens. Any advice?

    • @klwsproductreviews6148
      @klwsproductreviews6148  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either the bike isn't correctly positioned or, more likely, you've skipped the step where you set up the resistance at the rear. It's outlined in the instructions.

    • @klwsproductreviews6148

      Your choice. I'm using 1.75" road tyres and have no problems with this - but this is my daily outdoor bike. If used solely as an exercise bike then slick tyres would be faster and quieter.

      The ride is smooth but it doesn't feel like outdoors with bumps in the road, potholes(!), sun, breeze, wildlife but it's good for exercising when it's not possible to cycle normally or while we're currently on lockdown.
