  • One of our editors found a bike trainer at Aldi for $28, so naturally we had to test it. Test Editor and Olympic Cyclist Bobby Lea puts the trainer through the wringer to see how it holds up to different training efforts, and even if it can work with Zwift.

      Hey there! I recently came across a new project called freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike and it looks incredibly promising. What caught my attention is its dual mode feature which allows you to charge the bike while using it indoors. It's truly a game changer! Plus, the powerful brushless motor, front suspension, and puncture-resistant tires make it perfect for conquering any terrain. And with the Smart Saddle Detection+ feature, achieving fitness goals has never been easier. I highly recommend checking out freebeat's Morph eBike if you're looking for a combination of indoor fitness and outdoor exploration. Keep up the great work! 😊

    I think this illustrates that if you just need an indoor trainer, you can train inside on a low budget and I definitely appreciate the fact that nowhere in the video does it say, 'you should spend a bit more and get this, or for an extra $X you can get this', sometimes people don't have the extra budget and then any suggestion is irrelevant anyway. I've been looking for a trainer with a budget of around £300-400 - but this actually would suffice and be good enough for what I would use it for which just goes to show that some people spend way more than they need to. Unfortunately, that being said, turbo trainers are sold out everywhere at the moment due to current events.

    The reason that the speed on zwift and speed on the head unit are different is because zwift knows that you are not using a trainer that can adjust based on the gradient you are riding. Zwift takes this into account and lowers your speed so you have to push harder when climbing.

    Bad thing with that trainer is. After a while, it shreds your tire up. I didn't notice at 1st. Then one day the sun was beaming in on the bike and my black floor in the porch. Where I ride it. It look very dusty, so I got my broom and dustpan and started to sweep it up. That's when I noticed, it was like black soot. That I look at my back tire and sure enough, it was wearing it down. So I got rid of it. So I would say if you have old bike you don't care about and you don't mine cleaning the mess it leaves behind. Your good to go!

    It's obviously a copy of existing products, but it is quite remarkable that someone can manufacture, ship, and retail a product like this for $28. You'd expect major corner cutting that would make the trainer out of balance, wobbly, or unsafe. China can make (copy) carbon frames and wheels that can match up to many products at 3-5 times the price. They are even beginning to innovate and lead in tech.

    The thing about trainer "speed" is that unless the resistance is comparable to the resistance you'd face riding outdoors at that speed, on the same bike, in the same physical condition, etc., it's meaningless. Speed is only accurate to the extent that the resistance you experience (or the power you put out) on a trainer is comparable to what it would be on an outdoor ride.
    That said, this seems like a decent buy (assuming it's still available 4 years out) for someone with a low-end but still decent bike who wants to ride 20-30 minutes several times a week at say 15mph, to maintain basic fitness and maybe lose some weight. No need to spend much more for that.

      @@charliedee9276 Yes but those cheap turbo trainers in the 28 dollar range are very noisy. In addition those low quality turbo trainers wobble and can become unstable when doing sprints and such. It is not just an issue of wear and tear on a tire.

      I wouldn't ask him to test anything. In this video he is hiding the incline part of the Zwift app purposefully so the speed "appears inaccurate"

      You can get speed sensors for $10, this is misleading video to promote wahoo etc. The trainer is not as bad as the video claims it to be (the "bobby the olympic" is hiding the zwift incline purposefully)

    • @enterNATO
      @enterNATO 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@888899999888 I'm not really sure how this video is misleading. The trainer seemed to be ok for the extraordinarily cheap price he paid for it. He is using a wahoo speed sensor because he probably had that lying around he could have mentioned you can get these sensors for cheaper but not the point of the video. He is covering up the incline because he is holding the phone probably didn't think it really mattered for this video (which it really doesn't). Comparing zwift speed to a head unit is a bit silly as he is probably on a slight incline but his point is that it gets you in the game it has nothing to do with accuracy.
      Honestly this trainer is probably on the wrong resistance setting. It probably needs to be on the lowest resistance setting for zwift wattage to line up more correctly. I'm sure he is using unlisted trainer so your really shouldn't be shooting for accuracy. Which isn't the point of this video.

    Bobby should stop lying by not telling full story. He is hiding the part of zwift where the incline is listed on camera to purposefully make the trainer look worse. I'd take the bobby to court if I was Aldi.

    Just buy a quality spin bike for 200 to 300 buck. And if you can't buy one exercise bike that has all the bells and whistles for that price. You are not trying.
