    We tried that years ago and it only killed about half the fleas. The best, 100% guaranteed way to get rid of ALL your fleas is to sprinkle table salt on your carpet and place bowls of water in each room, the salt dehydrates the fleas, they jump into the water a end up drowning. The salt breaks down into a fine powder without ruining your carpet and all you have to do is vacuum it up when you’re done. We had an infestation that was so bad the exterminator wanted thousands to to take care of and we did it for less then $10.

We currently have 9 (anyone want one?) and for the first time in 20 years, a HUGE flea problem. We started herb boxes at every window and door. After hours of research I found your video!! In two days our bowls have more fleas than water. We can't thank you enough!!!

      Hey Michelle, I’m in Florida too, Orlando area. Sorry to hear about your flea problem, but glad to hear it’s working... we tried everything, and to be fair, everything did help. But when we started doing the traps it really started knocking them out. We kept the traps going day & night until they were gone. Another thing that seemed to help was to sprinkle baking soda on the carpets, then use s broom to sweep it in. Then repeat after every time you vacuum. The baking soda acts as a “desiccant” which dries out the eggs and fleas.

      Oh..
      if those 20 fleas got blood they will live longer than 3 days
      and those that bit you can lay eggs if they got blood from you they can lay upto 30 eggs each day.
      You have to find the 30 eggs those 20 fleas that bit you laid.
      they look like grains of sand.
      600 grains of sand each day after they bit you
      it will start all over again if you don't get the grains of sand
      You can't just use the plate method you have to find the grains of sand- try vacuuming every where to get those grains of sand

      Zoë Rimel oh it’s works, just make sure you don’t use LED bulbs because they don’t put out any heat... fleas are like heat seeking missiles. We used the curly CFL bulbs and they worked great. Keep the traps going day and night until they are gone. You have to go through a cycle where the existing eggs hatch and then head for the traps. Also sprinkle salt or baking soda on the carpets and use a broom to sweep it in. Wait a couple of days then vacuum and repeat... the sodium dries out the fleas and eggs. It's important to use a white plate for more reflection. Mix the Dawn in a cup before pouring, it's a bit easier. You can just add a little water when it evaporates.You will have to move the plate from room to room or use more than one plate and repeat the process in two weeks as that is the cycle of reproduction. We have 7 indoor cats and it works, believe me! Be careful not to have the lamp too close to the plate, if the water gets too hot it will discourage the fleas, about 12 to 18 inches with a 40 or 60 max. watt bulb. Don't worry the cats won't touch it, they will stay clear! Good post, thanks!

    or you can put a small tea candle in the middle of the plate of water and get the satisfaction of the fleas being burnt before they drown

  • @SpiritBear12
    @SpiritBear12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +615

    You don't need Dawn, any dish soap/detergent will work. The detergent works in 2 ways. The first way is it breaks down the surface tension on the water. Fleas can be light enough to float on top of water, but the detergent makes the water wetter in essence and thus the fleas fall right into the water rather than being able to float and be dry. Now they can't breathe.
    The second thing the detergent does is break down the waxy coating fleas (and other arthropods) have on their bodies. Insects and arachnids don't breathe through their face like most animals do. They have tiny holes in their abdomens called Spiracles. Their abdomens move in and out to exchange air much like our lungs expend and contact to do the same thing. With arthropods the waxy coating is supposed to protect the body from too much water absorbing through their exoskeleton and spiracles. The detergent breaks down that wax letting water seep into their body and spiracles so they drown.
    I suggest you get some diatomaceous earth and finely sprinkle that stuff all over your floors, esp the carpeted ones. Diatomaceous earth is a fine gray/tan colored powder that is naturally mined from the earth. It is comprised of fossilized diatoms which were single celled creatures that lived in the oceans and still do. When fossilized their bodies are sharp, like broken glass though harmless to us. However, this dust is harmful to arthropods (insects, arachnids). When arthropods walk through the diatomaceous earth it sticks to them. As it coats their bodies it literally cuts through their exoskeletons letting air getting in where it's not supposed to and dries them out. It does the same thing to the eggs of the offending creatures.
    Sprinkle this earth all over the floor using a fine sieve and close off that room for about 3 days. Keep pets out of rooms with the earth on the floor. Even though it's non toxic and natural, you don't want it in the eyes of your animals because their heads are much closer to the floors than ours are. After 3-4 days, vacuum the heck out of that room.
    If you can seal the doors with tape, the fleas can't get out of that room. Try to do as many rooms as you can at once to kill as many fleas as you can at once.
    I kind of miss having pets, but I do not miss flea infestations, or ticks.

      If you can't find diatomaceous earth, you can use plain old Borax. Definitely keep pets away from Borax even though it is also a product of the earth, you don't want your pets rolling in it and licking it off of their fur or getting in their eyes. Use it the same, sprinkle it all over the floors. What it does is it acts like salt and pulls moisture out of the bodies of the fleas and dries them up, same with their eggs.
      You may have to do cycles of this as the fleas lay eggs, hatch, grow and do their life cycle again. It will take time to wipe them all out, so you have to be diligent! Bedding must be washed in really hot water and dried the same. The hardest thing to free of fleas is soft furniture like couches with fabric coverings. If you have vinyl or leather upholstery, it's easier to wipe out the fleas. Wash the animal's bedding in really hot water too. You have to wage an all out assault/war on them! If you slack in your attacks, they'll be back.

    • @papajoeknows8355
      @papajoeknows8355  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Christine Duval it’s not that candles don’t work because they do, but you need to keep the traps going day and night until they’re gone. It’s just much easier to use lamps. Also, sprinkle salt or baking soda on your carpets and use a broom to sweep in... wait a couple of days then vacuum and repeat. This helps to dry out existing eggs in the carpet.

The dogs are in tatters (no hair on inside of legs, balded on back around base of tail) These people can't even take them outside/keep water in their bowls. It's practically animal abuse... sadly I was desperate for a last minute living arrangement. I've never been so stressed to sleep and these idiots don't even care. They sleep with the dogs in their bed. How can they ignore bugs literally crawling on their skin?! It's pathetic!!!! I've been the only one vaccuuming their areas, but they still leave big, wet piles of laundry in their bathrooms! That's a breeding ground!! Sorry i drank 3 cups of coffee after waking up covered in some and I have been manically vaccuuming my room. Used your trap and already caught 3 big ass dog fleas. GROSS!!!!

    This helps a lot. I've had a burning hatred of fleas since I was a teenager, after seeing half a litter of kittens die from fatal anemia. They belonged my girlfriend's family, who didn't know what the cause was until it was too late. The last kitten that died had passed away in my arms when we were trying to find an animal service to call.
    The point is, I currently have an 18 year old cat, who is generally pretty healthy, but had been acting strange lately. She's old, but her loss of energy was unusually sudden. I checked her for fleas, and there they were. After administering a dose of flea medicine and cleaning my home, they came back within the week.
    I really don't want to lose my cat to these parasitic creatures, so I'd like to say thank you for the great advice. I'll be going to the store to look for some lamps

      Giovanni glad to hear you’re going to do it. One thing, do NOT use LED bulbs, because they don’t put out any heat... fleas are like heat seeking missiles. We used the curly CFL bulbs and they worked great. Another thing... sprinkle salt or baking soda on the carpets, use a broom to sweep it in. After a couple of days, vacuum & repeat. The sodium in the salt / baking soda dries out the fleas and eggs.

    You don't have to use Dawn. Any soap or detergent will do as it breaks the surface tension on the water, the flea sinks and drowns. You only need a few drops of it too. The first one I set up there was a splash as I set it up! No bites since then. Simple and brilliant! I've used little battery operated floating candles and these work too.

    Very informative video ! Most people would prefer not to know how many fleas that their pets bring into their homes or they might be inclined to get rid of them !

    Borax along the baseboards. Leave it there. Also under furniture on carpet or hard floor. They carry it to the nesting area and it kills all stages.

      Borax doesn't work. I caught a live flea and sealed it in a ziploc bag full of borax. Bastard was still alive for almost a week.
