When I shot of those BTTGU rifles. The Butt Plate was mostly to keep the cleaning kit inside. (Inside the butt stock.) Not I good idea to shoot with BTTGU in up position. May end up inside your shoulder. In the pray and spray rifle. The stock was mostly a place for the excess of the buffer and spring. Oh and a cleaning kit. ( on some of them. Until they figured out it made to much noise with that shit rattling around inside plastic.) It turned out. It was a I'm a over here. Shoot me beacon.

Back around 1980, give or take, I wanted a hunting shotgun. A dealer had a Mossberg 500, brand new in the box, for $175. Had black, pistol grip stock. Barrel shroud. Top rail, sling, and nice magazine. 22in barrel. Nice safeties. I didn't want it, but, $175? I bought it with big plans of changing barrel and stock. I took it into the deer woods, and it was fantastic. Later I tooled the barrel for chokes. Made it even more awesome. Never changed the stock or barrel. With modern powder 22in barrel is a fine brush gun.
