obviously, yes, it has much more potent camera hardware than the s23u. better tele, better main and even better uw, bigger sensor and better optics do the trick.
I checked out the prices the Honor is £850 and S23U is £1400 for the same 512GB/12GB variant. That is £550 difference. The S23U could be had for pre-order at £1250 so that is a £400 difference, then you get a free charger, case, and screen protector for the Honor and also £400 worth of freebies! I think for that deal the Honor is an easy choice unless you have high disposable income and value is not a variable. The differences in the cameras are subtle and I think most people sending media to their family and friends will gain little benefit from the S23U's slightly better quality. As for OS updates, it gets the same as the Pixel 7 Pro and XDA never complains about that. Honor also has desktop mode; search on YT and you will see it is not far from DeX. You also had admissions like the PWM flicker on the Honor is far superior to Samsung. Also, the Honor has a 3D Face unlock versus Samsung's non-biometric 2D. What about shutter lag (speed), the Honor is superior. Also, the max brightness is much higher on the Honor. It seemed a bit of a pro-Samsung review...
I bought my S23 Ultra 600€ with à heavy discount by Samsung because i had a used S22 Ultra. Each year, it is the same thing : Samsung gives me huge discounts because I use Samsung's products. The Magic 5 Pro is an excellent device but I doubt the honor will give me the same advantages than Samsung. Yes Samsung is perhaps more expensive when you buy your first device but in the long run, Samsung is cheaper. Samsung also gives me huge discounts because I use the wallet. Samsung make the best smartwatch with wear OS and the best tablet with android. When you want to build an ecosystem with android, Samsung is the only choice. Also, One Ui is by far the best experience when you really want to use your phone like a phone and not like a camera

Its pretty awesome, the only thing that annoys me, is that you have to pull down 2 different screens for notifiactions and quick settings, i wish honor changes this so you can only pull down one simle menu like on samsung for example... the rest of the software is perfectly fine for me (i've used samsung for over 7 years now...)@@mathewnavarro2612
It would be appreciated if you could take a closer look at the image quality, referred to as "pixel peeping." In my experience, Samsung's images have an extremely artificial appearance, giving the impression that each aspect of the photo has been repainted and retextured. This is in stark contrast to my Huawei P40 Pro and new S23 Ultra, where the differences are clear, and the S23 Ultra's artificiality cannot be disabled. While the P40 Pro may be slightly older, it outperforms the S23 Ultra in street photography and landscape shots (both ultra-wide and standard), with a more natural look and superior detail. In contrast, the S23 Ultra adds artificial details that do not exist in reality.
I had s23u and compared it with my old P40 Pro. I returned s23u and bought Honor Magic 5 Pro. In some areas it still gets beaten by P40 Pro. What an excellent hardware Huawei has put in P40 Pro, after 3 years it still goes toes to toes with the latest flagships. Honor has its pluses though - Google services, better stabilized movies. The front camera is a win for P40 Pro - 32 MP sharp and clear pictures. Also the old Kirin CPU had neural processing unit for image processing and some of the photos taken with it are looking stunning, DSLR alike.
The performance is similar, on paper. Once you get to heavily demanding games, the S23U gets really unstable after a few minutes and gets really hot. Meanwhile the Magic only gets slightly warm and the fps stays consistent thru out.
In my opinion the only thing better on the s23 ultra is the software experience. Not that the honor is bad. It's just different. But the more I'm getting used to it the more it makes sense. The honor is a better looking phone, has a bigger screen and just better in the hand. It's also way faster and smoother than my s23 ultra. Honor is absolutely onto a winner here.
The whole cheaper is better narrative backfires when it comes to ongoing software support. Other than Google and Samsung no one consistently updates their phones every month.

In my country the both phones are at the same price for the 512 gb version and I am buying the magic 5 pro just because my health is most important. The pwm flickering of s23 ultra is awful. 240 Hz PWM for 1200€ what a joke! This screen can literally burn your eyes. I don't understand why the sale of such phones is not banned in Europe!?
I got to agree - Honor Magic 5 Pro is not Galaxy 23 Ultra killer by any means. What I think the more reviews I check- it's a great Samsung S23 Ultra replacement. Anyone who wants to buy S23 Ultra can now feel more comfortable - there's a phone which had been compared to I-Phone 14 max and Samsung S23 Ultra!!! If that is not a winner verdict what is?! Massive price difference and questionable disadvantages - this is what I get from plenty of reviews. Unless you need S pen!!! My wife has Sams S23 Ultra and the pen comfortably sleeps inside :) the phone. I honestly think Honor Magic 5 Pro is a great replacement phone for those willing to upgrade to a higher standard without breaking the bank! And I kinda like Honor photos more than Samsung ;)

thing with the tele lens of the honor is; it has "only" 3.5x but it's 50mpx binned down to 12.5 and it has a much bigger and more capable sensor than those on the s23u, the samsung has only 10 mpx which get upscaled to 12.5, which...is pretty suboptimal. in the end you have to ask yourself if you want less zoom but with better quality, or more zoom with inferior quality. main sensor is no competition i think, the wider aperture and the bigger sensor of the honor outclass the samsung with ease, can't beat physics.
Nothing can beat physics - yeah. That's why I don't understand why Honor implements so much sharpening and denoising in too many situations. Many folks complaining Samsung would do that. I don't know who of both puts more sharpening in the pictures, but Honor definitely does it too and it really annoys me.
I had a Huawei p40 Pro, it broke so I got a honor magic 4 pro. When my contract ends in February I will be getting the magic 5 pro. If the Huawei Mate 60 pro gets released global I will buy that outright. The photos look better on the honor than the Samsung
The S23 Ultra's face unlock and finger print sensor is absolute garbage. I am in the process of returning one, but Samsung's return policy is just horrendous and it's next to impossible to return it and get a refund. To be completely honest I still much rather use my Huawei P30 Pro than Samsung "flagships". I would stay away from Samsung.
There is no doubt that the Honor magic5 pro take better overall photos against s23 ultra which seems a lot un-natural compare to other Flagship phones. Very bright. On the other hand the Honor bring probably the most natural photos I have see from a smartphone and very close to Oppo x6 pro and Huawei P60. The advantage of s23 ultra is the periscope 10x "optical zoom" which take the best photos on that specific zoom. Also the flexibility to have 1 more good camera on your side. But until 10x zoom, Honor is a winner without dumb even thought it takes great images at 10x. Overall, is what you looking for and what is your budget. In my point of view the S pen and the 10x optical zoom is the strongest things about s23 ultra and Honor is probably the best display on market atm, great performance all around and better photos ulti 10x zoom. Also Honor cost 200 euro/dollars less and comes with 512gb 12ram. s23 ultra is a bit expensive for what it offer even thought offer 2 unique things "S pen and 10x optical zoom". But yes, the Honor is a true winner in cameras all around

Well i have been with Samsung since Galaxy S2 so that is many years. I currently have the Z Fold 3 which now has tons of problems, but i guess the Fold is not yet there yet. @@daidalos1508 So far, no issues. The Magic system is not as smooth as the Samsung one. The battery is a monster. The fingerprint is spot on. The health app doesn't work with their watch. The Huawei health app does, however it glitches when you try to add the weight. I haven't tried after the update. The Samsung keyboard is better than the Microsoft one that is on Honor, so I switch to Google keyboard, but still the Samsung keyboard was a bit better. You will hardly find Ukrainian that likes Zelensky. If you find they probably have swastika tattoo somewhere. Plus my grandmother was burned alive 2014 by the Azov battalion in Odessa, to purify the nation. Pray to God the Russians save us and liberate Odessa.
Magic 5 pro has better screen and better speekers, while s23 ultra has better software. When it comes to camera, i would said that s23 ultra is more versatile, but honor has more options. Also i like ultrawide selife camera on honor. Overall i would said that magic 5 pro is better choice because of the less price.

non reviewer didnt mention speaker equalizer couldnt be adjusted at settings(i check at store)such a bummer all android mid to flagship have this adjustment..it really has effect on audio sound alot..
Having reluctantly switched from Huawei to Samsung a couple of years ago, and I've felt the software has let it down. A lot of the process that were a one step process, like cropped screenshots and split screen, are a 2/3 step in my S21 Ultra
Take a look at dxomark camera top phones. I don't see s23Ultra there, because frankly speaking, the main camera performance in skin tones, shadows, low light is pure crap. What you see and maybe print on a small photo would look great. But zoom into the pictures and compare the noise, see the skin tones and then make a review about it. Pixel peeping on a so called 200MP sensor, bad experience
Samsung offers so much more from spen to software feature packed. One ui is light years ahead every smartphone, Samsung dex,smartview works perfect with a Samsung tv. Multitasking is outstanding and the level of customization is infinite with goodlock modules. Finally Samsung made a perfect device to last .
When it comes to honor it's just personal preference... there's a lot to talk about in honor which the Samsung fanboys never heard about...ai privacy call, ir blaster, Falcon capture, separate security chip for example.
Really want to get the honor magic 5 Pro. But strangely it is much costlier than S23U in UAE for reasons known to honor only. Whereas all around the world it is cheaper.
It is an A too Resolution is a little bit higher on Sam but in real life it's not noticable plus the high (PWM) on Honor If you wanna buy don't hesitate

S23 ultra is great for cheap oversharpening photos and videos which you can't fix. Imagine buying "the best" phone in the world and you need to download 3rd party app for fixing the issue, which honestly, can't be fixed. I will go with Honor, it's pure optics
honor can capture best shot in action, that is very handy and samsung has nothing to compete. also honor has 5450mah battery, way bigger than 23u, while honor charges much faster than samsung (for that matter, which brand other than apple doesn't beat samsung by a mile?) overall i think it is a toss up between the two, but the price advantage makes honor obviously the winner.
I have Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and it's obviously a great phone. But, if you can buy Honor for much lower price, it's a great phone for its price. You can even buy a decent midrange phone for the saved money. So let's say 90% of S23 Ultra, but for much better price. Yes, there is a support, prestige, price erosion,... but people are voting with their wallets...

At the end of the day most people buy things for a bit of kudos. Be it cars, homes, that tv. Unfortunately, although a great phone, also being loyal customer of Huawei the honor doesn't have as much kudos.
All of Samsung's mobile range is overrated. Owned the S21 and S22 Ultra, since I've moved over to other brands I've realized you are paying for the brand. Also I've experienced quite a few hardware issues with Samsung-branded phones. It shows when mobile company's own a monopoly they get lazy in their production quality and innovation, Iphone is another perfect example of high-priced mobiles with many issues.
The S23 Ultra is the better phone in many ways, but the Honor is better value. Both are great devices, and own any of the two and you should count yourself lucky.
This smartphone is more of a competitor to the S23 Plus than the S23 Ultra, and does not actually have much to envy to an S23 Plus, and from a hardware point of view it is even above. For me (I mean for me) its only faults are, its software (not that it's bad, but I can't find anything better than One-Ui currently), its pill 💊 which should have been centered and which above all is placed 2-3mm too low and especially the video quality (Samsung is well above). This Honor reminds me of my Mate 20 Pro 🥲 Ps: on the other hand, to choose between it a Pixel 7 Pro and even 8 Pro to come, I would choose the Honor 😜 🏃🏽♂️🏃🏽♂️🏃🏽♂️

The only problem with samsung is the stupid sharp edges design that is so uncomfortable to hold. Same goes to their s23 n s23+ boxy design. Its just stupid.
There's no way of getting away from the fact the S23 ultra is the best phone ever built. Yes a few come close. But nothing beats it. It's literally a work of art.

@@smitjee Work fine just like new, nothing to complain. Cameras and screen are awesome. I don't feel eye strain even at the evenings.

one point most people forget is thr availability of accessories. couldnt find more than 2 cases for the m5pro online.

thing with the tele lens of the honor is; it has "only" 3.5x but it's 50mpx binned down to 12.5 and it has a much bigger and more capable sensor than those on the s23u, the samsung has only 10 mpx which get upscaled to 12.5, which...is pretty suboptimal.
in the end you have to ask yourself if you want less zoom but with better quality, or more zoom with inferior quality.
main sensor is no competition i think, the wider aperture and the bigger sensor of the honor outclass the samsung with ease, can't beat physics.
Nothing can beat physics - yeah. That's why I don't understand why Honor implements so much sharpening and denoising in too many situations. Many folks complaining Samsung would do that. I don't know who of both puts more sharpening in the pictures, but Honor definitely does it too and it really annoys me.
I had a Huawei p40 Pro, it broke so I got a honor magic 4 pro. When my contract ends in February I will be getting the magic 5 pro. If the Huawei Mate 60 pro gets released global I will buy that outright. The photos look better on the honor than the Samsung
The S23 Ultra's face unlock and finger print sensor is absolute garbage. I am in the process of returning one, but Samsung's return policy is just horrendous and it's next to impossible to return it and get a refund. To be completely honest I still much rather use my Huawei P30 Pro than Samsung "flagships". I would stay away from Samsung.
There is no doubt that the Honor magic5 pro take better overall photos against s23 ultra which seems a lot un-natural compare to other Flagship phones. Very bright. On the other hand the Honor bring probably the most natural photos I have see from a smartphone and very close to Oppo x6 pro and Huawei P60.
The advantage of s23 ultra is the periscope 10x "optical zoom" which take the best photos on that specific zoom. Also the flexibility to have 1 more good camera on your side. But until 10x zoom, Honor is a winner without dumb even thought it takes great images at 10x.
Overall, is what you looking for and what is your budget. In my point of view the S pen and the 10x optical zoom is the strongest things about s23 ultra and Honor is probably the best display on market atm, great performance all around and better photos ulti 10x zoom. Also Honor cost 200 euro/dollars less and comes with 512gb 12ram. s23 ultra is a bit expensive for what it offer even thought offer 2 unique things "S pen and 10x optical zoom". But yes, the Honor is a true winner in cameras all around

Where is the Samsung S23 is about £1750 with 500 gigs of storage + you have to pay for the charger which is outrageous in my opinion with so much money spent.

Well i have been with Samsung since Galaxy S2 so that is many years. I currently have the Z Fold 3 which now has tons of problems, but i guess the Fold is not yet there yet. I saw the fold 5 coming out soon, but i didn't want to spend one hat of money again for something that might turn out unreliable again. So far, no issues. The Magic system is not as smooth as the Samsung one.
The battery is a monster.
The fingerprint is spot on.
The health app doesn't work with their watch. The Huawei health app does, however it glitches when you try to add the weight.
I haven't tried after the update.
The Samsung keyboard is better than the Microsoft one that is on Honor, so I switch to Google keyboard, but still the Samsung keyboard was a bit better.

Magic 5 pro has better screen and better speekers, while s23 ultra has better software. When it comes to camera, i would said that s23 ultra is more versatile, but honor has more options. Also i like ultrawide selife camera on honor. Overall i would said that magic 5 pro is better choice because of the less price.

Having reluctantly switched from Huawei to Samsung a couple of years ago, and I've felt the software has let it down. A lot of the process that were a one step process, like cropped screenshots and split screen, are a 2/3 step in my S21 Ultra

Take a look at dxomark camera top phones. I don't see s23Ultra there, because frankly speaking, the main camera performance in skin tones, shadows, low light is pure crap. What you see and maybe print on a small photo would look great. But zoom into the pictures and compare the noise, see the skin tones and then make a review about it. Pixel peeping on a so called 200MP sensor, bad experience

Samsung offers so much more from spen to software feature packed. One ui is light years ahead every smartphone, Samsung dex,smartview works perfect with a Samsung tv. Multitasking is outstanding and the level of customization is infinite with goodlock modules. Finally Samsung made a perfect device to last .
When it comes to honor it's just personal preference... there's a lot to talk about in honor which the Samsung fanboys never heard about...ai privacy call, ir blaster, Falcon capture, separate security chip for example.

Really want to get the honor magic 5 Pro. But strangely it is much costlier than S23U in UAE for reasons known to honor only. Whereas all around the world it is cheaper.
To me, Honor's photos look like they exaggerate the colors, while Samsung's are more natural.

HDR seems to be little bit more aggressive on s23U than on Honor.
S23 ultra is great for cheap oversharpening photos and videos which you can't fix. Imagine buying "the best" phone in the world and you need to download 3rd party app for fixing the issue, which honestly, can't be fixed. I will go with Honor, it's pure optics
honor can capture best shot in action, that is very handy and samsung has nothing to compete. also honor has 5450mah battery, way bigger than 23u, while honor charges much faster than samsung (for that matter, which brand other than apple doesn't beat samsung by a mile?)
overall i think it is a toss up between the two, but the price advantage makes honor obviously the winner.

I much prefer emui/magicos to Samsung's. I'd consider it a plus.
For me the phones are basically the same, but samsung has the s pen and i preferr one ui, thats why i went with the s23u
At the end of the day most people buy things for a bit of kudos. Be it cars, homes, that tv. Unfortunately, although a great phone, also being loyal customer of Huawei the honor doesn't have as much kudos.

All of Samsung's mobile range is overrated. Owned the S21 and S22 Ultra, since I've moved over to other brands I've realized you are paying for the brand. Also I've experienced quite a few hardware issues with Samsung-branded phones. It shows when mobile company's own a monopoly they get lazy in their production quality and innovation, Iphone is another perfect example of high-priced mobiles with many issues.

The S23 Ultra is the better phone in many ways, but the Honor is better value. Both are great devices, and own any of the two and you should count yourself lucky.
Better in some ways, but not in all ways. However it is much more expensive (overpriced) and brand has looong reputation.
This smartphone is more of a competitor to the S23 Plus than the S23 Ultra, and does not actually have much to envy to an S23 Plus, and from a hardware point of view it is even above.
For me (I mean for me) its only faults are, its software (not that it's bad, but I can't find anything better than One-Ui currently), its pill 💊 which should have been centered and which above all is placed 2-3mm too low and especially the video quality (Samsung is well above).
This Honor reminds me of my Mate 20 Pro 🥲
Ps: on the other hand, to choose between it a Pixel 7 Pro and even 8 Pro to come, I would choose the Honor 😜
