Thank you so much for sharing this kata! I am a member of the Okinawa Karate Club of Dallas where I can learn the Shudokan style Karate. This TH-cam video is a perfect reference for learning the kata. I really appreciate your efforts on this!
You are very welcome! Shudokan is a very small style. There are several dojos in the northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) part of the country. I don’t know of any in Texas. If you are ever in Eugene, Oregon you are welcome to visit my dojo.
@@shudokankaratefamily thank you! Me too. I’m thankful there’s actually a dojo in the area that teaches classical Okinawan Shudokan. The katas are complex and beautiful:)
Shudokan has two katas that go together this one Shin Pa Tan (short mind waves) and Shin Pa Cho (long mind waves). I haven’t filmed the second one yet. It is on the docket. They come down from Toyama Kanken. They are exclusive to our style. You do see a derivative of this one in Shitoryu called Shinpa. I believe this is the older “mother” kata of theirs.
This is the Shudokan version of the kata. Maybe you learned a different style? There are several variations of this kata in different styles. You can see they most likely had the same root kata, but over time have diverged into looking very different! For example, Shitoryu’s kata that is similar is called Shempa.
Just started karate at 84 and love it . This video is a great supplement to my classes. Thanks so much and GOD bless. Semper Fi
That’s so awesome! 84! Wow 🤩 good for you. Thank you I am glad the videos help.
I am just starting and really appreciate this video. Watch it every day. Semper Fi. Ps 84 years old. Never to late to learn. Lol
That’s fantastic! I am glad it’s helpful. 😊 It really is never too late. Good luck in your training and new adventure!

Beautiful! This is the kata I’m in the process of learning. I’m about 75% of the way through. Pretty stoked to actually get this one down.
Thanks! It is such a nice kata. It was one of the first ones I learned. I am glad you are getting to learn it!

Strange, the kata I learned in college did not look like this. (Shin pa tan)
