- A playthrough of Nintendo's 2009 boxing game for the Nintendo Wii, Punch-Out!!
Played through the entire campaign, including the career and title defense matches. I also faced the secret character in Mac's Last Stand before taking the final loss to bring about the game's ending. I played with a Wii-mote held sideways. I really have little patience for the motion controls.
I really wanted to upload something special as a thank you to everyone since my channel has just hit 20k subscribers. So, here, and thank you! I can't believe how quickly it's grown over the past year or two!
I love this game. It's as good as anyone could have hoped for in a sequel/remake/reimagining for the original 1987 NES game. It plays the same: with the view set behind Mac's back, you wait for openings and throw hooks, jabs, and uppercuts at your enemy. Everything relies on timing and counters, and the most effective moves are specifically tied to particular frames in animation cycles. If someone taunts, pop them one in the chin when they least expect it. If someone unleashes a hellaciously powerful move that has to be wound up, hit them a split-second before their move connects with you, or dodge it and hit them as they're recovering from the whiff.
There's a ton of strategy and memorization, making it feel more like a puzzle/strategy game than a boxing game. It also makes the game significantly harder than just about any other boxing games out there - button mashing will get you slaughtered, even on Glass Joe. It's a difficult game, no doubt, though it's not as hard as the NES games. Maybe it's the fluidity of the animation that makes the tells easier to spot and time, or maybe is just that the first time I played this, I had long-time since committed the NES and SNES games to memory. Either way, nobody will ever accuse it of being easy, and I like it that way.
The real star, though, is the presentation. If you can deal with the game being presented in 480i (hence the fuzziness inherent in the picture quality here, despite the source recording being well over 100gb!), it stands toe-to-toe, so to speak, with the best on machines far more capable than the Wii. The style is fantastic. It's all tongue-in-cheek, everything is over-emphasized, and colors explode non-stop. And, while it's obviously a massive upgrade over Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, it never feels untrue to the source material. The way these characters have been designed make it feel like they've always been this way - a remarkable achievement, or so I thought. I nearly died laughing the first time I ever saw Super Macho Man in this game - he was even more smarmy and gross than I had ever imagined. The soundtrack is also excellent - much of it will be familiar to long-time series fans, but the remixing updates it to match the quality of the graphics without ever compromising those infinitely memorable tunes that we first heard back in the 80s.
I'm certainly no master at this game, but I think I do alright. I've been playing a great deal over the past few months brushing my skills back up to acceptable so that I could record this the way I wanted to show it. It's one of my favorite games to have been released in the past ten years or so, and I really wanted to do it right. Hope you enjoy it!

You know, when facing off Super Macho Man, the crowd boos whenever he brags or recovers, or when Little Mac is knocked down. At least, I heard that. Really gives the crowd emotion.

Yep, with all opponents from the arcade, NES, SNES and Wii versions of Punch-Out, a licensed soundtrack (in addition to the classic Punch-Out soundtrack) and commentary by Rich Bocchini, Max Kellerman and Bernard Hopkins with Michael Buffer as ring announcer and Kenny Bayliss as referee, as well as Floyd Mayweather as the final opponent.

I remember how my Dad bought me this game and how this game be with me on a hard epoch of my life.
I absolutely loved it, Funny, Awesome, Reflexive and with super b, funky music! One of the most recommendable games for Wii!
I remember also that it made me understand how win is good but not ever is important, Important is learn and still improving day by day.

First time I played this game was on 2 player mode I played with my dad and my friends then I fought Glass Joe and the second fighter then I went back to 2 player, I then fought a hologram of Disco Kid but when I fought the real Disco Kid he absolutely destroyed me.
Yes I actually lost to Disco Kid's first fight... I spent 12 minutes until I beat him then played alittle more of the story until after I beat it I never touched it again.
I miss this game alot and never touching it after 9 years was a mistake
Doing that is going to make you lose do you really want that think about it
a really great, underappreciated gem on the Wii. I don't think it even sold a million copies, which is unusual for a Nintendo-franchise.

I find it ironic and also cool that Tyson on Mike Tysons Punch Out, when it came out, his record was 31-0. Mr Sandman has the same record on this one.
Awesome remake of probably the best original boxing game of all time and a top 5 all time nes game. And dude, you rocked it.
It's not really a remake. It is really faithful to the older titles though.

As King Hippo slowing realising that he will sure be taken down again, he sure saw that power before, he screamed since he would knew what would happen after his lost, his protection fell away and theres nothing he can do, if not falling outside the ring
I love how Aran Ryan just runs behind Little Mac, screams, and runs back to his original position.
Honestly, this was one of the only reasons I even bought a Wii. I own like 10 Wii games and have little desire to get more, but this one was up there as a system seller for me.
Totally, it's one of my absolute favorites on the system. Amazing game!
Amen. I had this and like two Harvest Moon games and that was all I ever really played for it. Not even the Zelda titles did much for me.
There's a few good games. There are some really good compilations, Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug, the Data East complation, Mad Dog McCree. The Mario games are good, as is the Paper Mario game. Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. Metroid Prime. But, overall, it wasn't a system I just HAD to have when it was new. I got mine for like 30 bucks a couple of years ago, and that's about all I ever wanted to pay for it.

Can we just appreciate that Little Mac was such a good fighter, that he got into Smash Bros? The game with champions from all over the world. And he's only a human! That...that is impressive to say the least

Someone needs to make a movie or Netflix/HBO series about this game. Adapt it to a story and make it awesome. I bet a ton of Hollywood stars would want to play the opponents to Mac. Charles Barkley as Bald Bull I know has been joked about but I can picture the Rock being in it lol.

Wow, some of these fights were over before they started! I think if any real boxer got destroyed so effortlessly by an opponent, they would have retired the next day, never mind getting back in the ring with said opponent once they're the World Champion.

When against Aran Ryan title defense, he's giving you clues when his swinging his gloves around. If he twirls his gloves horizontal twice and then vertical once, then you duck twice and move sideways. Follow it's pattern

I always wondered how Glass Joe (a 110 pounder with a glass jaw) could take about the same damage as a 300-pound tank (Sandman) from Mac's punches.

Wow! I can tell that whenever you lost a match, the "Match Lost" music plays like the versions of the "Attack Wave Completed" music from Defender II (NES)/Stargate from around the world. I can tell that the developers of this game hired the voice actors from around the world to voice the opponents, specifically two Japanese actors as Piston Hondo (Kenji Takahashi) and Donkey Kong (Takashi Nagasako), and Ukrainian actor Ihor Mota as Soda Popinski (Go, Ukraine!). Of course, many introductory cutscenes of the opponents are pretty downright hilarious! Especially with King Hippo, Donkey Kong, and Bear Hugger! And Mr. Sandman... he kinda shows that 13 is unlucky! Anyways, nice one!
ExoParadigmGamer should do a Remake or Rebreak on this to see how much it improves from the NES game and what new content it brings.
