I just love that little extra personality they gave each character with these animation. Glass Joe's pitifull 8-bit sound-included kneel-down. Macho Man's last second overdramatic pose. Sandman' struggle to keep his balance, and they ring's trembling with every step. Ryan's "I'l TAKE YOU WITH ME" flails. God, this game had one thing to do, and they polished perfectly. A shame there isn't more content.
Imagine, had the technology been there, DLC with the rest of the fighters done the same way as the ones in the base game. Even Pizza Pasta would've become a funny and positive Italian stereotype that would've made his name meaningful

I love the super retro sounds that happen when you knock down glass joe, such a cool way to reference the original punch out

Way back played the heck out of Punch Out Wii, one of the funnest and trickiest games to 100%.

Champion Doc Louis:

Interesting, TD Aran Ryan’s glove attack before he falls is different depending if you knocked him down with a headshot or a body blow. I never knew that!
6:43 is also where you can instantly KO Aran Ryan with a star punch just before he swings his weapon for those unaware

His whole knockdown pose is completely different depending on whether you knock him with a headshot or body blow, and I think he's the only guy where that happens.

Whether you knock him down with a head shot or a body shot, he takes a swing at you on the way down.

Nowadays since nintendo bought next level games, anything is possible. Heck, they should also do either a port or a sequel to mario strikers.

Honestly, Sandman's KO animations are probably the more brutal ones, especially his TKO

Sandman's TKO has Mac punch him *three* times before he hits the ground. The rest of the cast has Mac throwing a single punch.
Soda Popisnki is another brutal TKO. The tallest boxer in the game gets hit so hard that he falls to the ground immediately.

I love how title defense bald bull makes you think you knocked him down for a second and then he’s like “nah”
Then you star punch him and he instantly gets koed
@@kyeblade06 I think that only happens if you do that when countering the bull charge cause he wipes his mouth afterwards. Any other time, he just walks back into position.

Yes, the gem is hidden because after you beat great tiger in TD, he disappeared out of existence, and so did the gem on his head.

*Most Noticeable Changes between Contender and TD:*
- In Bear Hugger's KO, it's added his squirrel flying out of the stage because of the punch
- In Great Tiger's KO, he disappears at the end instead of just staying down
- Bald Bull's Knock downs by normal punches are replaced qith him resisting them, since now he can only be knocked with star punches
Also Aran Ryan tries to punch you while falling lmao

Glass joe's contender knockout animation has his eyes widening in shock whereas his title defense animation has his eyes starting to close instead.
I think tiger just has bad ping and lost connection to the server

Most of the animations for knockouts were actually inspired by the game they originated in. Bear Hugger's ballerena spin ko is from Super Punch Out if you knock him out with a headshot
Thats one of the high points of the game, the animations are awesome

12 years later, and this game is still getting attention among the TH-cam gaming community, and it is great.
Curiois if you can do the countdown animations. I remember seeing one where Soda Popinski pulls out a bottle with zero soda in it in his countdown defeat.
Also, gotta love Glass Joe's 8-bit sounds.
About that soda popinski knock out thing I belive that happens if you just keep knocking him down again and again. Not like TKO aka triple knock out but every time you knock him down for each round to the point were he just runs out of soda

I think Soda Pop had a special regular KO animation where he tries to take a sip from his bottle, but fails and just gives up the fight. Kinda surprised you didn't show it here.
Soda has a animation for not getting up where the drop slowly gets there but i think it dries up and he just gives up yeah.
Great tiger and don flamenco have little special animation where they barely get up and fall again
This game seriously needs to make a comeback on the Switch.
I feel like Don Flamenco's transition into the TKO cutscene is the smoothest out of all of them.

Can we aknowledge how much of a tank Bald Bull is compared to the rest of the cast? When he gets knocked out by a jab he doesn't go flying, he turns around, tumbles and then falls, and if knocked out by a hook, he just gags and falls to the ground. He is 298 pounds of pure muscle and it shows.
And at 9:50, the trumpets for Doc's game over theme are the same ones used for Von Kaiser's game over theme.

I like the subtle detail in the bald bull fights in when you ko or tko him the crowd will boo him when he's still up but when he goes down the crowd goes wild
The character in these animations. Von kaiser's exaggerated fall when he gets knocked down, soda popinski's pitiful attempt to grab his bottle, king hippo's dramatic slo-mo fall into the crowd, great tiger's clones fading, Aran Ryan's hilarious tie up on the ropes and bald bull's failed attempt to still look menacing. Just AMAZING. I want this game remastered for the switch, even not in HD.

I gotta say when you punch your opponent in the gut multiple times, the bass drum audio gives that attack more powerful and devastating. Combine that with the cool animations and honestly, that feels more satisfying than a star punch.
It's worth mentioning that Soda has a special 10-count animation where he runs out of soda and lets out a small sad "Nyet..!"

I love the fact that Don Flamenco raises up a different arm with each one, but not as much as every knockdown and KO animation that Aran Ryan had

i like how great tiger LITERALLY DIES like not metaphorically or anything he literally just vanishes to dust in the title defense mode upon defeat you literally commit murder
While a shot to the head will knock someone out, a shot to the body keeps them awake, and it's painful. The body shots that knock out people do so because they are the type of pain that paralyzes a person. That's why you see boxers immediately clutch their bodies as they go down - the pain is so great that they can't do anything but hold onto themselves out of instinctual self preservation. And they're fully conscious through that, unable to move due to the pain.
I wish all games would have this much polish
