Hey, great video! I'm really new to this and just wanted to ask: If I'm creating a 6 x 9 book with no bleed, the instructions say I need to allow a gutter of 0.375" and an outside margin of 0.25". If I'm putting together 100 pages, as they are printed double sided, do I have to change the margins on every other page? So for example on page one, the gutter is on the left so I set 0.375 and the outside (right edge) set 0.25 - THEN on page 2 is on the right, do I reverse this and put the gutter on the right? Or, does KDP do this automatically - as I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere... Thanks!!

Certainly appreciate this tutorial ! Thank you! I’m dealing with adobe acrobat pro for all of this and learning as I go . Trying to format an 8:50 x 11.00 .
I created a book with bleed and use the dimensions of 8.625×11.125 inches for the interior , but I emailed by amazon with "Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page. Once you have added the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach all the way to the edge of the page 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. This prevents manufacturing issues when the file is trimmed to size". How do I fix this on canva?? Thanks

The outside, top, and bottom margin requirements are 0.25" (6.35mm) for books without bleed and 0.375" (9.52mm) for books with bleed.' I'm using 8.625x11.125 for the interior with bleed. Set Bleed in KDP options, Launch Previewer, no errors, accept, get the above message. I'm so confused! Is there an easy fix in Canva or do I need to reformat my entire document in Word? BTW it's a Word Search Puzzle Book and I definitely want Bleed for the graphic borders. @godswillideh did you ever figure it out?
Hi @PaulMarles, Thank you for this very helpful video! I'm still a little confused about the margin element of interiors, specifically the gutter margin. My understanding of the inner gutter margin is that it's placement/width will vary according to whether the manuscript page is on the left or the right, based on where the spine is e.g left hand pages have the larger inner gutter down their right margin. Do I have that correct? If so, when using Canva, or even Word, do the margin settings change based on the page/side of the manuscript? Or do the margins stay uniform through all pages of the document? Thanks so much for any insight you can share! 🙏
Yes, you’re correct about the gutter margin being dependent on whether it’s a left or right page. In my Gumroad shop there are free templates to download which will show you the margins.
I just watched a million of these and yours was actually the best. Way to go! You explained actual info, gave very helpful links and instructions and you're very comfortable talking to the camera. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
this info on margins should have been posted in the "make a journal" video, i had a tough time fixing the margins coz of errors and spent 2 days on that just bcoz i was following your every step and still getting it wrong.
I just selected 'show margins' in canva. It's i think under the file selection, where you will find other ones like show ruler etc. Once margins come, you can go a little out of it (it's allowed) or stay within that border for consistency. That's what I did and it got approved. Kdp gives how much margin is needed for bleed etc and if u r on Adobe or any other platform, you could probably go to margin and set the cm/inch

I watched about 10 videos on the topic and just got more and more confused about the interior layout. After watching this it's finally clear! Thanks! One thing though, someone in some other video mentioned that you don't have to input the bleed amount when uploading it to Amazon, you just choose a bleed page size from their bleed vs no bleed page size list. Is that true?
Can you possibly explain the guides in the KDP Previewer? I am trying to ensure parts of my images don't get cut off in the bleed trim. I can't seem to find any templates that include the measurements or safety guides that I can use to preview my images. Example, I have images of people and when increasing the image the previewer on KDP shows the very tops of their heads being cut off. I need to prevent this. Going back to Canva and dragging the image down a bit would work, but I need to know how far to pull it down. 🧐
You would have to keep the images within the page margins in order to not get cut off. Here is a link to some free margin templates I created which you can use in Canva which may help: paulmarles.gumroad.com/l/RaWRi

Great information. Thank you. It's so clear to me now. Perhaps you can do a video on how to format a print or Kindle Table of Contents.
Thank you for making it so easy to understand 😊

Have you a video for allowing the bleeding on children's picture books?
No, I don’t. Just this video on bleed and margins.
Thank you. These videos are very helpful.
You’re welcome. Glad you find them useful.
You're the best bro, God bless you 🙌

I love this VDO Thank you So much
You’re welcome. Thank you for watching.
thank you for this, do you have a tutorial for canva?
I don't have a specific tutorial for Canva on it's own but I have many videos where I create books in Canva.
Hi thank you so much . Can I creat a coloring A5 coloring book
Yes, you can!
Salut, am 2 zile de cand cred ca te-am urmarit tot canalul, foarte interesant, as vrea sa ma apuc si eu de KDL dar nu stiu de unde sa incep :)
Do you have a video on a left and right side two different looks
Good vid
I need to ask, cream and white which is the best, I mean most accepted by buyers
White.
QUESTION: I want to know if it’s possible to format my children’s book in free programs? For example in Pages (Mac)? You use Affinity Designer and suggest Canva or Photoshop. I have made my drawings on a Wacom Cintiq 16 drawing tablet and I save my drawings in .jpeg
I would very much appreciate your help.
I would avoid Pages or Word as they add formatting code that can cause issues whn you upload the interior to KDP. The easiest options for putting the interior together are Powerpoint, Keynote and Canva.
Thank you for your help. I really appreciate advice from an experienced publisher like you 👍🏼🤗. I’ll try which program works best.
😊Your instructions are the best. Thank you
VERY GOOD EXPLANATION! thank you very much
You're welcome.
