Thanks for putting this video out. As a person/artist that works full time at a printshop. I can't tell you how many people I have had to walk through how to do this.
Margin! Thank you so much for this video. I have NO idea what I’m doing, but I learn quickly with simple instructions…which is exactly what you did here. I didn’t realize there was so much to this process! Thanks for making it clear.
I have even more respect for picture book illustrators now. That’s a lot of factors to think about. Especially the cropping of your work to sell books at different sizes.
As always, another wonderful video! I enjoy how you get to the point. I’ve wasted so much money on other “how to” classes and all of your videos are so easy to learn and to the point. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤
Genevieve, thank you so much for this video! I am familiar with the margins of the pages, but I was surprised by your technique for drawing the margins in Procreate. My main goal was to draw and format full 2-page illustrations without important elements ending in the gutter. Glad that you addressed it. It looks like I just have to be creative to avoid it.
Genevieve went above and beyond. I downloaded her bundle and needed help with my new book. She didn’t hesitate to help me set it up. I highly recommend her bundle’s they have been an absolute life saver. She has made the download process easy to use and extremely organized. Couldn’t recommend enough.
Thanks for taking the time to make a really nice, helpful video! Your teaching style is really clear, and I love how this video contains all the basic information that I have been needing to format my children's book. I've come back to this video so many times! Also, just a side note, you have a beautiful voice❤
This is gold!!! Just got the ultimate illustration bundle and those page spread templates are a life saver! Thank you so much. Definitely going to be referencing this a lot!
Wow this is so helpful. I just designed a school magazine on procreate and did all these steps, but manually, haphazardly and after many mistakes. This video might have saved me time. Although my own experience was a treasure of an experience
omg after watching hundreds of videos all day this has been the most helpful! I was starting to lose faith that I could actually design my book but now I actually understand what I'm doing 😅 Quick question, do these guides match up with the ones that Ingramspark uses? And do you have a video on what the brushes in your pack are? I'm trying to collect a heap of new brushes for my book illustrations
That's awesome! :D The last I checked, the guides do mach up with most IS and KDP book sizes. As for the brushes, you can see them in action in this video: th-cam.com/video/PRbKmjA7-0k/w-d-xo.html
Hello again Genevieve, thank you for making the templates for the book sizes too! I had to get your pack and I am now doing a second edition of my book on Kdp as when I tried to get the bleed all the way to the edge of the page it always got rejected and now I see why when I put your template over my work it was cutting off the text. Thank you for making this video and putting it in plain English as the other sites and videos just get too complicated. I can’t say thank you enough! Your brushes are adorable and very high quality! I’ll be using them too! My book will finally have that professional look and feel, thanks to you! You’re the best!
This was such a helpful tutorial. I use procreate for creating my books and I have been taking an additional and unnecessary step using canvas to save the file as "pdf print" thinking that if I saved the file as pdf in procreate, the image quality for printing was going to be poor. I always learn something new watching your videos so thank you for taking your time to provide these tutorials.
This is actually helpful. I'm planning to illustrate a children's book that my teacher wrote but I don't know what the canvas size for the art needs to be and what errors that I might be encountering when doing so. Thankfully, I found this video to be very useful so thank you.
margin….and this was fantastic. I’ve got your bundles and as someone who wants to start writing and illustrating picture books this is just fantastic so thank you so much!
margin! Thank you so much for this amazing explanation. It is the best one I have ever found for a lover of procreate but not a graphic designer it's always been so confusing for me but this is amazing. THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for the video! I appreciate you giving us access to the files too! I purchased and feel so confident and excited for my first book :)
Margin! This was so helpful! I’ve spent many years doing page layout and design in InDesign and just started playing with Procreate and I was struggling to figure out how to prep files! This info will be so useful if I ever get back into printing my work, thank you!
Margin! Thanks so much for sharing this info! I'm so excited to know that I can do this with procreate without having to purchase expensive adobe programs.
Margin, thank you so much for this video tutorial. This is my first time learning about Bleed & Margins in Procrate! very helpful and very valuable. Thank you so much!
Hi! Genevieve, I am impressed with the quality of your content, thank you! This is my first approach to consider digital illustration for my children books I am about to start creating, and this is definitely the way to go. Could you suggest me what iPad version and pen should I get, please? Thank you!
Thank you!! This is amazing. If I buy your book templates on my old iPad that I’m currently using, will they transfer to my new one when I get it if I use the same Apple ID? I’m buying them either way but just not sure if I should wait. Thanks!
HI, I love your content! I have one small request if it is possible? Can you demonstrate this layout in Word or Google Docs because I do not have procreate and get lost trying to follow you after the first 5 min? Thanks. Mo
Wow wow wow! Best tutorial ever! You explained margins so well! I’m going to have a crack at it myself first and if I get stuck I’ll happily buy your tutorial package. Thanks again!
I have a couple of days off next week and I plan on making some holiday cards. I’m going to have to just doodle until I hit upon something I like but I’m excited to have this resource. Great timing for this tutorial Genevieve! Thank you.
Great demo, however It does seem like kdp does not allow inside covers. Although Ingram spark seems to have it (they call this feature duplex) for paper back books.
Margin….and thank you, youve explained that well but I will probably need to watch again a couple of times before It sinks into the brain cells and obviously putting it into practice too when im ready will help that process….and I will probably come back here to watch this again to do that too.
Thank you sooo much for this tutorial! I have always had trouble with the printing part, because I did not exactly know how much space is needed for each page. But you have explained it so well and so clear... just AWESOME! Thank you and keep up the good work! Your other videos are also awesome and very inspiring! :)
I have a question about timestamp 13:34. when you are copying that spread over is the spread drawn to the edges of the page or only to the safety zone?
Hello Genevieve. Thank you for your very helpful video. I’m just confused by one thing. The canvas size at the end is no longer 8.5X8.5, it’s 8.75X8.75, correct? Did I do it wrong? Should it be 8.5X8.5? TIA🤗
Thank u for this video I didn’t how to do any of this, amazing and informative, I’m not sure me personally wouldn’t mess up the part where u stretch out the spread maybe I can just draw single pgs , none the less my one question for putting a book together would be , when and how do we put txt in the book?
I always sketch my text by hand at the same time as the illustration. You can then use the Procreate text tool to write everything out nicely when your illustrations are almost done :)
Hi Genevieve, do you have a template for an 8,5" x 8,5" spread? So if I want to create a canvas on Procreate with both pages next to each other, with the bleed and margin, as you demonstrated with the single page?
This is super helpful! How do you format the interior? This works for the cover margin and bleed but it looks like you have different specifications for the right and left pages. What are the margin and bleed details for these?
@@GenevievesDesignStudio I’m doing 8x8 trim (8.125 x 8.25 bleed) and my page is set to 8.5 x 8.5 I figured I would just scoot the bleed and margin to the right and left for the interior pages to allow for .125 blank in the gutter area. I didn’t change any of the dimensions but in yours it almost seems like the left and right pages have a smaller margin safety area. I’ve been using ingram spark and formatting has been a nightmare 😄 This video helped me immensely figure out how to do it on procreate without having to use another program.i
My God!!! This was soooo much of help wowwwowow!! A big thank you, I was needing this sooo bad, I really appreciate the effort you put on this, Thank you Thank you, love your videos!!
A superb video! We hadn't seen this process before on ProCreate done with a tablet pen so it was interesting to see. If only everyone watched this before sending us their work :)
11:30 thank you for sharing this! I assume your illustration has to be a flattened single layer to copy & paste the canvas, correct? Do you always flatten your illustration once it’s approved/final? Or do you keep 2nd copies of your illustrations - 1, the original working copy, and 2, the flattened version for creating the pdf?
One of the clearest and best explanations I've ever seen.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for putting this video out. As a person/artist that works full time at a printshop. I can't tell you how many people I have had to walk through how to do this.

Finally! Someone who knows how to explain all of this bleed, margin stuff! Thank you.
Finally a video for aspiring illustrators to start with.
Margin! Thank you so much for this video. I have NO idea what I’m doing, but I learn quickly with simple instructions…which is exactly what you did here. I didn’t realize there was so much to this process! Thanks for making it clear.
Did your project work out? I’m in that boat now of not knowing what I’m doing lol
Thank you for these! As someone who works full-time in iPad (no PC as of now), this is really helpful!
I have even more respect for picture book illustrators now. That’s a lot of factors to think about. Especially the cropping of your work to sell books at different sizes.

I knew I purchased your bundle for a reason. Thanks for doing the hard work for us. Can’t wait to use these for my first book.

Ooooh, that's so exciting, Robert! So glad I could help 😊
Thank you for the best description of bleed and how it exists alongside margin as a concept!
Margin! Wow, this taught me so much I didn’t know and made more sense than any other margin video I’ve watched! Thank you!

I'm so glad it could help, Katie! I've been using InDesign for years too and the lack of rulers in Procreate was driving me CRAZY haha
Margin! So helpful, I'm going to share with my SCBWI illustrator group. Thank you, Genevieve!
Margin! Thanks so much for sharing this info! I'm so excited to know that I can do this with procreate without having to purchase expensive adobe programs.

HI, I love your content! I have one small request if it is possible? Can you demonstrate this layout in Word or Google Docs because I do not have procreate and get lost trying to follow you after the first 5 min? Thanks. Mo
Excellent teaching, very easy to understand.

Margin. This was so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.
14:20 , doesn’t expanding the draw reduce its quality?
Not if it's a PNG image drawn in over 300 DPI
Margin! Very helpful! Thx
You are a Goddess for this! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!
Reminds me of putting together our school annual (yearbook) many years ago. We had to mind the MARGINs and the gutters.
I have a couple of days off next week and I plan on making some holiday cards. I’m going to have to just doodle until I hit upon something I like but I’m excited to have this resource. Great timing for this tutorial Genevieve! Thank you.
Margin - such an informative and helpful video thank you!
this is super helpful THANK YOU FOR SHARING! life saver.
Thank you for this video! I’m a first time book illustrator and this has helped me tremendously.

Thank you for this!!!

I have a question about timestamp 13:34. when you are copying that spread over is the spread drawn to the edges of the page or only to the safety zone?
To the edge of the bleed zone! There's always a little part of the illustration that will be cut off :)
