Just finished making this bag with my new Brother BQ1350. Without YOU and your detailed instructions, there's no way I would have attempted this one. One note, urge everyone to buy the Emmaline Hardware. The pattern isn't friendly to adding the Dring and Tab at the end of the project! I struggled to attach them and finally gave up. The bag is just too darn think and bulky at this point to do the step. So, I just ordered the hardware from Emmaline and will wait patiently for arrival to say this bag is DONE!!! It's definitely a beauty. Again, many thanks for all you do for us.
I love this bag, and I want the pattern ,which is something I don't do often. but this one has so many things to it I need the pattern. NOW, you done such a GREAT job showing and explaining ,I think most sewer could make it. Thank you
I love this, I ordered the pattern and hardware! I just love all your tutorials and since finding your channel I've finally felt confident enough to try and sew along with you and have made 3 bags!! Thx
Just Finished making the Double Flip Shoulder bag by Emmaline Bags. Thank you for the step by step video, This was my First attempt at making a bag, and I am very pleased with the outcome. I will definitely be making another. I don't think I would have attempted it, if not for your detailed video tutorial. Thank you.
WHEW! That looks complicated with all that gorgeous vibrant fabric! I think I will get more experience and use more muted colors when I make this for the first time.
Hey, Jess! Great tutorial! I really like the chart version of the cut list! It makes that part of the project a breeze. I’m planning of using blue denim jeans for the main fabric-I bought 4 pairs of denim jeans-2 black, 2 blue-on sale for $5 each at Walmarts when I was camping in the U.S. this summer. I have Sallie Tomato’s Brown Legacy Faux Leather for the accent, although I may not have enough for the straps. Hmmm…might be able to have the faux leather on one side and the denim on the other! If not, the denim will be fine. I have a global map quilters’ cotton that should make the perfect lining! I bought the largest sizes avail, since I knew that I was going to use them for bagmaking. I’m glad you mentioned using the Soft & Stable to protect devices. I had that in mind for the back full pocket, since I’ll carry my iPad there. It’s good to know that the main pocket will hold my 13” circa 2009 MacBook-yep! It’s still my working laptop. Going to download my pdf from Emmaline’s website now and start printing it… Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
I made this bag for my mom about a year ago. I loved it, she loves it. Yes, there are a lot of pieces and a lot of steps BUT Janelle's patterns are so easy to follow. I never struggle to understand what she is instructing. Great job on the tutorial and love your bag! Now I want to make another one for myself.
It's such a great bag, and I agree, Janelle's patterns are fantastic. She really takes the time to walk you through every bit of it, removing confusion.
This was a HUGE help to me! The written instructions for this pattern were super detailed, but it helped me so much to see every step and have it explained so well. Thank you so much for the time and effort that was put into this video!
Planning on making this bag but with 2 interior zippers instead of the slip pocket. I also want an extra zipper pocket on the back exterior of the bag. A tip to save nice lining fabric- use a solid color cheap quilt cotton for lining zipper pockets- my lining fabric is just as expensive as the exterior fabric and I really like it- so want to save it when possible.
Purchased the pattern while on vacation last summer..i was intimidated by all the steps thank you for making it look easier. Now to find some pretty canvas to go with my fabric. Here's hoping my machine plays nice for a change and i can getter done. You make a person who has à hard time reading directions a chance to make something beautiful. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you so much Kathy! I feel overwhelmed with patterns as well. I always feel like if I can get through them, then so can you. It's nice to feel like you aren't sewing alone!
You do such a great job with the bags you teach, I have a very simple technique for you to try when you're making zipper inset pockets. I learned this trick about 5 yrs ago after having sewn dzs of them. Not mine but forget who taught me.** easy; before turning the pocket facing through the stitched zipper rectangle, turn the unit over, now press the rectangle SA into the hole under the pocket fabric and stay stitch the sa to the fabric pocket ( also know as under stitching in fashion sewing) , this will keep the lining from wanting to travel north into the base fabric. Don't need to sew the tiny triangle ends bc they will naturally stay in the corners. you will love this very simple, but GREAT technique.
This is a must have! I like smaller bags for quick trips but this completely satisfies my love for a big bag. I can't wait to make this! Thank you for sharing this beautiful bag❤️🙏🏼
I wanted a very firm base on my bag so glued decovil heavy to this panel and keeping it 3/4” away from seams. I then added ByAnnies soft and stable cut to same size as base. I thought I would never turn it out but it was quite easy. Thanks Jessica for your wonderful tutorial on this magnificent bag.
I just received my pattern and hardware today from Emmaline, I'm in Australia so it was a bit of a wait about a month! I can't wait to give it a go! I'll definantly be following along with this tutorial 😀 thank you !!!
Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I am very knew to making bags. With your clear instructions I feel confident enough to try sewing one of these bags for myself
This is a great video ever!!! Thank you so much for such a detail tutorial. I bought the bag pattern from Emmaline, and I have no clue how to make it. The bag pattern is sitting in the drawer for more than a year (I bought it on December 2018). I searched and searched the video tutorial, couldn't find it. All I found is just the finished product, people made it and showed how it looks like. Just the outside part, they don't show the inside part. By watching this video, showing the finished bag looks like, showing the inside part (all of them), it gives me idea how. I can not thank you enough to have this tutorial. Thanks again, and God bless you. I really appreciate it. Evia Duluth, Minnesota sometimes Surabaya, Indonesia
Thank you so much for this AWESOME tutorial!!! I’ve had this pattern for like a year and got so intimidated by it... I had the material for it just collecting dust in my sewing room... then I saw your video and thought: this.is.possible!!! 😍😍😍THANK YOU!!!
Hi Jess, love the bag and the video. Just a suggestion when making the zipper pockets. after you have cut the block open if you iron the little seam allowances open before you fold them back it makes it much easier and quicker to get a crisp edge.
I've made two of these bags and just wish I had seen this video before I did. I must say Janelle's patterns are very easy to understand though and I was able to make it without much trouble.
I was looking for a tutorial on this bag a few months ago to no avail. I'm so glad to see this video. I did make this bag then but I got stuck in the middle and left it for a while. I was finally able to figure it out and finish it. Almost. Still have to attach the strap connectors which will be easy now that I watched your tutorial. Thanks for this. I will make it again using your video.
Great tutorial! That fabric is gorgeous and I like the different one on the back. It looks like a "design feature" to me! I don't know if I would ever tackle something this intense but I think if I did that I might consider putting a snap under the top flap or maybe both to hold them down more. Beautiful bag though and lucky mom!
Thank you so much. I have been following you and your tutorials for a while now and just made this bag for the first time. Your instructions are so helpful and I’m really happy at how my “practice” bag turned out. I tried it with vinyl and it was a bit trying on my machine so I’ll be doing the next one with waterproof canvas. Getting better at this bag making thing slowly but surely.
Wow ,this bag looks amazing,I’m a little afraid because of all the hardware ,that has been my stumbling block but I’m going to order and as soon as I get everything I will be watching this video again , thank you 😊
Made the bag the first time with "normal" vinyl and it worked out great. When my sis was choosing her fabric, there was no "normal" vinyl that matched. She, not knowing anything about material, chose marine vinyl, which is totally fine with the exception of 2 issues I had to find a creative way to fix. First, I got the strap done, but just barely. I have a Singer simple and it BARELY was able to accommodate what ends up to be 8 layers once you fold over the ends. Had to use my purple thing and stuff it under the feed feet on my walking foot at the beginning and over the seam (which I did 30 inches x 30 inches instead of cutting it weird to make up the difference since it's 50 wide). Second, there's an issue with pressing. Marine vinyl will not press. If you heat up the iron to the point it will press, you'll melt it. I knew better. Lower temps won't work. I'm using it for the main zipper material, so, NO WAY it's going to turn 1/4 inch and stay when you pull through the zipper facing. So, I got creative. No reason I can't use glue. Used the 3 in 1 and glued right at the seam so it would catch the vinyl when clipped. Then I clipped the snot out of all sides. Had to be careful to leave a finger-width between each clip so the clips on the opposite side would fit. The ends were only an issue because of the pull from the vinyl, so I glued those also. Now waiting for it to dry overnight (because it's late and a good place to stop) and then I'll finish the bag tomorrow. There are benefits to marine vinyl. It can take a lot of abuse, is UV resistant, as well as waterproof. And it will hold forever unless you take to it with a knife. Downside is that it's thicker than normal vinyl, won't press at all (even with an iron on low) and to make the strap requires not only a walking foot, but a leather needle. The rest can be done with a heavy duty needle. Also, just like vinyl, any mistake that needs to be redone will show if it's not within a seam allowance. Will I use it again? Absolutely, on the bottom. Strap is for "have to" (didn't have time to order online), but with the correct equipment, it will work.
Just ‘discovered’ you this weekend via your Tula Pink machine unboxing (which did nothing to diminish my wantiness!) and you are such a delight! Your humour and realness are so appealing, your tutorials are so clear and informative, and your production quality is fabulous! Thank you so much for all you do, I have subscribed and am bingeing my way through your videos 🥰🎉🙌🏻
I’m getting ready to make this bag and just watched the entire video in preparation. I really enjoyed watching this video. Now I just need to wait for my hardware to arrive and decide on fabric and vinyl. Thanks!
Oh Jess I have fabric envy😳 that butterfly fabric with that yellow is just gorgeous!, i want your bag😜 welldone for another fun and informative video thank you😘😘😘
This is great - love the bag and never thought about using those edge connectors. they're so classy. I've been thinking about trying decovil light and waterproof canvas. thank you-so thorough!
Oh goodness girl. If I didn’t have enough bags to try to make, you had to show this cutie! Lol! I’m really glad you did, though. I’m a homeschool mama and have yet to find the perfect bag for my teacher go kit...until now! This is just perfect 👌. Love your videos and bubbly personality!
Gorgeous bag! I was going to ask you if you sold any of your makes. But.... this is for Mom. 💝 Great bag. Guess I'm off to curb side service at Jo-Ann's.
Jess OklaRoots thanks honey I love watching your tutorials but your little ones about everyday life are great. Wish I was always in a t-shirt although its supposed to be 26 here tomorrow but it is pretty dull and overcast today. English weather 🙄🙄. Hope the training for the marathon is going well 👍🥰
I was designing my fabric labels, and listening to Jess describe the pattern instructions booklet..when she said this instruction booklet can be a bit, my brain didn't hear bit.. had to rewind to make sure, because our Jess never cusses! Yeah, it is just me, I'm not so wholesome!
Hi I love your channel, just open minded. I just start tiny bag business and I was looking for different solution for the pocket. I never make that kind of bag. I hope soon I will try 🤗 I just have a question did the edge conectrors are enough to handle the weight of the bag? I'm still learning. Thank you so much for all your knowledge that you shared with us!! All the best from Ireland. 💚🧡
Love this bag although it's too much purse for me at this point. It will make a fantastic gift for someone! I was thinking no way when you held up that printed pattern but your teaching method is so clear, I think I can do it. Also LOVED spot 38:27 when you flip that hidden pocket over! Your pattern match is extraordinary! BOOM! You got it going on, Jess!!
Hi Jess. I just finished making this bag and it turned out beautifully. I would have had a few stumbling blocks if I hadn’t had your video to refer to. Going to make a second one. Xmas presents.. thank you!
This is such a fun bag! The colors are amazing. 💕 l love versatility and size. I'm wondering if I put in bigger side pockets on the middle of it would be great for a diaper bag. I know a lot of moms having babies this year.
Omg! You’re killing me! How am I supposed to make all these in your videos??? 😬 How can I get lifetime access to your videos?? I am going to figure out a way to make as many bags as I can!
I made the bag and realized when I was putting it together that I had cut the back exterior the size of the interface. I laughed because I didn't want to cry. So today I have taken the bag completely apart. Tomorrow will start all over.

I bought the pattern and hardware a few years ago. Now I am going to make it after watching your video thanks
I bought this pattern via your link. You said in the beginning that we could see how to increase the size I need this bigger. Great video.

Cork would be beautiful!

Made the bag the first time with "normal" vinyl and it worked out great. When my sis was choosing her fabric, there was no "normal" vinyl that matched. Omg thats fantastic, definitely going to make this bag... Going to take it on my next holiday xxx thank you, your tutorials are so easy to follow.
I'm so excited for you Jane!
Tip for turning out those tricky snap tabs:
Using the bottom of a pen, roll the fabric down. Use a Purlple Thing to poke out the corners.
I’ve ordered the pattered and the hardware in rainbow I’m am a beginner but this looks so cool
It's such a beautiful bag! It looks much more complicated than it is.
Super video Jess! Glad I am retired, as this will take me a few weeks to make. So beautiful. You did a fantastic job. ❤️❤️

Jess OklaRoots thanks honey I love watching your tutorials but your little ones about everyday life are great. Wish I was always in a t-shirt although its supposed to be 26 here tomorrow but it is pretty dull and overcast today. English weather 🙄🙄. Hope the training for the marathon is going well 👍🥰
Thanks for all the great videos and tutorials Jess! Any chance you might do a tutorial on the Emmeline Bags' NCW pattern?
Yes! It is on the short list. I'm excited to do that wallet.
An amazing bag. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I was designing my fabric labels, and listening to Jess describe the pattern instructions booklet..when she said this instruction booklet can be a bit, my brain didn't hear bit.. had to rewind to make sure, because our Jess never cusses! Yeah, it is just me, I'm not so wholesome!
🤣🤣🤣
Hi I love your channel, just open minded. I just start tiny bag business and I was looking for different solution for the pocket. I never make that kind of bag. I hope soon I will try 🤗 I just have a question did the edge conectrors are enough to handle the weight of the bag? I'm still learning. Thank you so much for all your knowledge that you shared with us!! All the best from Ireland. 💚🧡
I watch, and enjoy, all your videos, the more the merrier I am. Lol
Thank you!!
thankyou Jess, great tutorial, wish you would do more as I really enjoy them, and Yes you should start selling your makes theyre lovely
Thank you! I play with the idea every now and then.
Sew fun! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us!

I am obsessed with that lining fabric. Who makes it?? I must have it - a lot of it!!
This would make a great bag for a new momma! Great tutorial!
I think so too!
Love this bag (& hardware!)
Loved your tutorial.
Hi Jess. I just finished making this bag and it turned out beautifully. I would have had a few stumbling blocks if I hadn’t had your video to refer to. Going to make a second one. Xmas presents.. thank you!
That's fantastic Freda!! Oh this will be such a great Christmas gift!
Love this! I honestly don’t know if I could tackle this on my own without your amazing tutorial. Thank you for sharing!! 💗
Thank you Erica!
@@OklaRootsI was wondering if you could do a video showing you cut out the pieces. I have the pattern but am having a hard time understanding it
This is such a fun bag! The colors are amazing. 💕 l love versatility and size. I'm wondering if I put in bigger side pockets on the middle of it would be great for a diaper bag. I know a lot of moms having babies this year.
You know I had "diaper bag" on my mind when making this. I think you can definitely play with the interior and make it work for a new mom.
Omg! You’re killing me! How am I supposed to make all these in your videos??? 😬
How can I get lifetime access to your videos?? I am going to figure out a way to make as many bags as I can!
Aaahhhh that first bag is crazy cute!!!!! 😍 regressing to pink and duck-egg blue fetish here. 🥰
It's SUCH a sweet bag. I was feeling mom-vibes when I was making it.
I made the bag and realized when I was putting it together that I had cut the back exterior the size of the interface. I laughed because I didn't want to cry. So today I have taken the bag completely apart. Tomorrow will start all over.
Absolutely loved watching...I cut everything out...will start sewing tomorrow. :0)
Have fun!
