      Jess, you always go above and beyond 🤩 I pray you know how deeply we ALL appreciate you not just for time stamps.. giggle but your encouraging, uplifting, you can do this .. love for your maker community. I know, I know I've said it before and I'm sure others say it too. But for those whom enjoy and glean from your hard work.. figuring out a good bag, deciphering the codes of which lay within the numbers pieces and places🤯 ( for someone on the other side of a BI. Trust when I say I know there are others that may not be able to do certain patterns because of such things and or other health restrictions😇you bless us all sweety). YOUR willingness to go for it just makes me smile. Rock my heads side to side slightly and say to myself "JESS...ROCKS!"
      so I just wanted to say THANK YOU... Y'ALL HAVE AN AMAZING WEEK, BIG HUGS & BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS💞

      @@OklaRoots Jess, sweety you are sooo very welcome! I feel the same. It's amazing😍 the hearts of those we are joined with as creators and makers. It still blows my mind Everyday in fact. You know that's not true. It doesn't surprise me in fact it takes my breathe away because it blesses me so deeply. It may have absolutely nothing to do with me in fact witnessing the kindness and unadulterated willingness of those joyfully opening their hearts n minds to take time from what ever they may have going on to make sure another can learn, grow and overcome something. Whether it's a snap or extremely difficult. It.. well my cup runneth over. I'm a woman of strong faith n generally leads of joy. And due to horrible health issues I've had so very many reasons to give up on others and anticipating just a lil kindness as human beings. To the point of never leaving my place because it broke my heart to see folks so broken, for what ever reason. That they couldn't beget a bit of goodness towards another. It certainly keeps me in a state of prayer for the hurting, broken and weary. So, when the good LORD brings you to a place where beautiful people such as yourself will shine joyfully, regardless what they may be up against in that moment, day, week..! Just that others may see, "This you shall pass" and that love STILL makes us the WONDERS that WE were all meant to be and ARE.
      On my part (and everyone else that had embraced you), you keep me inspired and excited to move forward in the blessings of all the amazing things stirring within. It's encouraging when I want nothing more than to create & do and the body thinks it's the last word and going to keep me down.. Not! In those moments you kind of want to give in because it could be easier than the fight. I've had mind to think, your miles behind in this or that so? Then there your are pushing past whatever else may be going on. Not allowing it to keep you from things. (I know there are maybe times you do n then shut off for a bit, I mean don't we all encounter the" 🖐 I'll be right back" moments. ( him great T~shirt idea lol)
      I'm encouraged with something new and exciting that I'll not only be pushing forward in what is planned but I'll be enjoying the latest soon as well. Is ok to getter done in my timing.
      I know I'm a bit wordy but its truth and well if you ever need it. I pray it lifts you up if even with just a smidge of joy and light, as your spirit is to all of us. Ok, now I'm a big ball bag
      👁💦👁 oh my lol not my intent. But, When the Spirit moves me to speak or my big ol blessed heart can't help but to say Thank you lololol well😁
      Hugs and Blessings 💞

    I love that you went through applying the interfacing with all the pattern pieces. Sometimes for me just the cutting and interfacing is more daunting than actually sewing the bags. I also love that you go through all the hardware first thing . I am such a visual learner, I do also go through the paper pattern but with a video also its like it makes mistakes or confusion to the pattern almost impossible. Love this video. Thank you so much.

    Thank you Jess, for another wonderful tutorial. I especially loved that you showed how you hand stitched your binding. I always hand bind my projects, as, like you, I am not the straightest binding sewer when it comes to using the machine. I was so happy that you showed how you stitched over the vinyl, I was wondering if it was as straight forward as you showed, and it was, which makes me feel less stressed about binding that part. Thank you again :)

    Hi Jess. This was such a fun sewing project. I made two for my sisters kids for craft or school supplies. They turned out so cute. It was hard to find specific fabric designs so I used iron on images to use on solid fabric. They turned out so cute. I wish I could post an image in the comment section for you to see.

    you always do such an amazing job teaching the wonderful useful bags. I thank you for the slow details every step, as well as the tips from what you learned.. I must say I love seeing what fabrics you are using bc so many times people get stuck with a certain color or pallet and you seem to find the darn cutest fabrics ever. Ok that said, if you make another one, I have a suggestion, to make the bottom of the bag a bit sturdier for the in out Velcro spot you could add a 1/2" x 7.5" piece of your scraps of stabilizer to the opposing side (wrong side ) of the bottom. I think it might give just a bit stronger base, and perhaps keep the bag from damage to the cotton fabric. thanks again.. keep up the great tutorials.

    A tip I've come across for making sure the snaps line up right is to place both pieces together and rip the slits together or if that's too much fabric to place one piece on top of the other and trace the slits onto the bottom piece and then install male and female snaps.

    Stretch the corners ever so slightly while you are going around them and the binding will practically jump into place on the other side when you fold it over.. It makes life really easy, even on quilts with scalloped edges. Here is another tutorial for ending binding so you can't tell that the binding was never one piece in the first place. I use this all the time. Even on purses. th-cam.com/video/0R6eercvs4A/w-d-xo.html

    This is adorable. I've been looking for a bag to take lunches for my friends who work in offices, etc. so I would love to know the dimension of the inner bag and I would probably tweak it some so that the opening of the inner bag was bigger so as not to mush up the lunch. the outer bag part would be great as a placemat and use the brush/tool pockets for utensils and the vinyl pocket for napkins, wet wipes, condiments or whatever.

    could you use the presser foot that folds the binding for you and just sew it on with one stitch with the machine?

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You know I bet you could. I might have a binding foot, but I haven't gotten around to figuring it out yet. I really should!

    Now that you have so many other materials you like to use (eg vinyl, WPC etc), would you make this again differently? Also would love to know what it’s like to birth…couldn’t find one on the socials without binding

  • @caroldean6308

    for sticky vinyl, just dust with baby powder on the side that is sticking. yes it needs a little extra clean up at the end. you can also use tissue paper between vinyl and foot. i have a roller foot at it works very will.
    as for binding: cut on bias; cut wide enough that you can fold lengthwise edge to edge & it will be wide enough to wrap around to frontside; sew bias on back side first iron seam flat, flip over and iron binding fold, use plenty of steam to "shrink" edges around curves; when you are satisfied that binding looks even, stitch down with about 3-3.5 mm straight stitch.

    Love this cute bag pattern, I bought the stencils and found some super cute fabric to start up! However, is it possible to sew this pattern without the SF101 or the 911ff? I wonder if the bag will be hard to use without it?

  • @TaraLynn56

    Your videos are so informative and clear instructions. Can you share a little more about how you "laminated" the material? Did you just buy some clear vinyl and it melted to the material somehow or is it special vinyl? Your link to the vinyl showed some kind of blue vinyl, so it was a little confusing to me. Thanks again, this bag looks great. I am making one similar and then I want to make one a little smaller for electronics for traveling and then a coordinating tote to carry it all with an inside pocket for an iPad. Nice for traveling And then maybe a coordinating handbag as well.

    Jess I love the bag and your tutorials. I have pretty much watched them all. Im ready to conquer zippers and binding. I love the disney princess fabric on this make up bag. I cant remember, did you say it was cotton/lycra? I have been on the fox & tots website, but dont totally understand the difference in materials. Thanks.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So this one was made using Cotton Lycra, but I typically prefer Cotton Woven. Lycra reminds me of legging material, and the woven is like quilt cotton.

    I'm curious why you attached your binding to the inside of the bag first. I'm a quilter, and most quilters do the machine stitching to the top of the quilt and hand stitch to the bottom. It would also avoid having to hand stitch through the vinyl.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Debbie! I was following the pattern :)

    • @debbiedempsky8160

      @@OklaRoots Sounds good. I just couldn't figure out if there was a more strategic reason for which side the binding was machine stitched.. You're hand stitching of the binding was beautiful, so I'm sure both sides looked the same. I don't usually do quilts with rounded edges that require a bias binding, so I was trying to figure out if there was a reason for what the pattern did, or if it was simply a 50/50 choice. This bag turned out beautiful!
