Thrifting Hidden Antiques & Vintage at Giant Flea Market!

- We're flying through the huge Louisvile Flea Market, and we've got the bargain fare! This vast convention center tucks junk dealers, antique resellers and people unloading storage units between booths of more pedestrian fare, and we're here to pick thrift-store priced vintage goods we can take west to our next antique show.
The promoter told us to shop up front where more antique dealers are set up...so we immediately go to the back instead! This is where things can be giveaway priced...we find Eastern Airlines first class stemware for 25 cents each, pick a fun velvet painting, 1930s shaker sets, antique shaving mugs and vintage postcards (total spend $17, retail value $75), and score authentic 1950s Seminole dolls for $5/each! These prices make thrift stores look expensive.
Then we head up front, where the regular antique and vintage resellers are hidden among the soap, food and new import junk dealers! We seek them out for better bargains on better merchandise, and are rewarded with everything from a neon bar sign (at half of retail price) to a handsome pair of antique cast iron bookends. We get to see a lot of fun things along the way (vintage comics, a good pottery dealer and a generalist who sells us a cool 1950s battery operated car), and talk to a man with 40 years experience selling old model kits and the like.
Our cart is full by the end, we won't be able to check this in our baggage so it's a good thing we have the car to take it all home! Thrift store prices at a big flea market make this a venue we'll return to in the future.

This is a really enjoyable video. No loud music and no crowds. Tons of usable information on items.
Thank you! I wish every place I went to had this variety
It is so refreshing to see yi exhibit kindness always! We dont seem to be relating well as a society at present! Thank you for all of your knowledge as well! so very interesting!!!
I want to share that your comment is such a thoughtful one. You said what I was so aware of as I listened to George"s interactions but I didn't think to say so. Thank you, Laura 😊
Well thank you both! I think we get to choose how we relate to each other, and I love being in this realm because people start with a fun thing in common, and leave the other stuff behind
FYI: Naomi Judd's mama was named Pauline. Great video (as usual), Thank you
I have a photo of my mom and her little brother as very little kids - probably circa 1939 - in a convex glass frame like that.
I heard the notification but was getting my granddaughter off to bed. Which can get a bit drawnout 😂
Oh, I know that feeling! We had our two granddaughters the other week overnight. 4 years, and almost a year old. 1 am!
😂😂
Understood but that's important!
❤ yes it is ❤
Love that groovy flower power lamp! ❤
I can't wait to fix and get it out!
So many great items! Love all the knowledge you share! 😊
You are so welcome!
So many amazing treasures 🥰
So much
Good Evening George😊do you still have the Eastern Airlines ✈️ wine glasses available? Thanks😊
I do have some! How many would you like? email me at TheAntiqueNomad@gmail.com
Once again, you have given me a wonderful virtual vacation. Thanks!
Glad to hear that! Come along with me anytime
This is a perfect comparison!❤
Antiques go mega sized.
It's a mega sized hall!
Hello handsome❤
Aww thanks! Hello
What do you use to get crud off of stuff?
Depends on the crud, when in doubt start with a lightly dampened cotton cloth and work your way up. A lot of people go right to the harshest chemical because "it said it was good for xyz", which is why (for example) many copper kettles and boilers have been overshined using Brasso

🥂 Hi friend 🎉
I am too good of a friend to bring attention to your calling koalas, pandas.
🐼 🐨 😮
Hahaha
And pronouncing Cairns as Karins
Lol yes, it is so hard to catch mistakes when you edit yourself because you just hear it the way you did the first time! I've never been able to say the Australian "Cairns" correctly
@@TheAntiqueNomad Hey George, love your videos. Cairns is pronounced Kenz
Wow! You are doing a blitz this week ! Thank you, George 🎉 Now I'm streaching out to watch !
Ahh you finally got a pickers best friend....a wagon!! Save the receipt for taxes, love the video.
Hi Silver, were you one of the suggestors? Great idea, amazing that he has gotten by without a pull along 🎉 😊
I finally did!
@janetpogue4970 oh probably Janet, I love mine, uline or Walmart $79 well worth, then you write it off as equipment!
Pandas-China Koalas-Australia
Pandas - very cute. lol
Lol I looked right at them and said the wrong thing. I sold a pair of Fenton Pandas the day before and had them on my mind, and it's so hard to catch your own mistakes in videos when you edit your own!
I think the best bet for getting unusual items and good deals is still your estate sales
He is disproving you now. I went to such a sale today and was shut out as they were only taking ten people at a time.😢
I hope people think so at my estate sale next weekend! I price it for resellers. I realize not all do, and some only do by appointment, and some only want to do online and get the most they can for the best stuff--but then they sell a lot of good stuff cheap or in lots. @Lisakeller it's frustrating when they take so few people, I haven't seen that level of limitation since the pandemic
😅 Just got to like, THE
"various - what - ever - things." 😂 Nice phrase, George.
Thank you, George for a fun time at the Louisville Flea Market ! It looked like lots of fun & friendly folks !! Take care! 🎉
Lol there are a lot of those to me in the world when my beloved vintage intersects new stuff
😅😊
So much stuff! That yellow and orange flower lamp has to be from the early 70s, when yellows and oranges along with white and brightly polished brass was popular. 🌺
Oh yes, it was absolutely 70s flower power
I really enjoy these big indoor shows. Especially since they are beyond my ability to endure them myself. (Sucks to get old). But it’s especially great to go along with you and have the benefit of your narrative. Thank you and Xeno for sharing with us!
I have bought 2 lady head vases with the arm missing or otherwise damaged and I decorate them with broken jewelry. Making one beautiful item out of broken pieces.
My aunt had a lot of beautiful squash blossom designed jewelry necklaces and bracelets. With rings to complete the sets. When she passed my cousin inherited and she proudly wears them
That is awesome!
What a great shopping trip!! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge along the way George!❤
Thank you for your knowledge!
Wild George. I had an absolute crack up over this gigantic mall. I really enjoyed this. Can you cut some fantastic articles? Thank you for this great adventure.
Be safe and travel on.😊😊😊😊😊
It was so nice meeting you at this show! I got a great deal on the Kentucky Bicentennial print I picked up.
Thank you! I really enjoyed meeting you, and I liked the print you found. I was pretty happy with my haul from that guy's space as well!
Your comment about the 6 miles per gallon Winnebago cracked me up! 😆
Right?!
Loved this visit TFS xo Yvon
Yay, thank you! Good to see you
How cool this flea market is. That is what they used to be back in the 80s here but not anymore sadly. Thanks for letting me come with you on this trip. You have a great day and safe travels
Any time! There aren't as many like this anymore
I have the boy fishing clock but the clock dosent work and am missing the fishing pole
So cool though
I don't know the collectible value of them but I built military models from 1980 to 2000 and for the best quality and accuracy the models made by Tamiya from Japan are the best by far.
My model-making friend always said they were the most realistic!
do you mind me asking what year you were born? I am curious because we seem to have a lot of the same childhood memories..but you seem younger than I am
Same
I was born in 1965, so I'm first year Generation X. I had older siblings though
The postcard early in the video
With the picture of the man
Is probably a carte de visite
If I'm correct
It might be from one, the Carte de Vistes came in similar sizes to tintypes
Eeeek. I’ve actually been looking for a Bosson head 🤣. I’ve been watching all your previous videos scanning the backgrounds and haven’t seen but a few!! LOL.
Which one? I do see them out there
@@TheAntiqueNomad oooh. Specifically the fisherman with yellow rain coats/hat on. The Old Salt fisherman or the Life Boat fisherman…😊 I have found a couple on Etsy or EBay…but they were so beat up!! Which I guess the chalk ware is easy to chip.
The daisy lamp was in bad shape I don't know how much they were asking but really it was in bad shape
It really was, but I see enough left of it to restore it since it was only $15! With a little reconfiguring, I can sell it with the tag marked 'restored' and it should go around $40-50 as-is. I don't usually buy as-is but I knew if perfect, it was a $100 lamp where I sell, so I figured I'd try to save it
So, I'm dying to know how much was the huck Finn Clock?
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
That was a fantastic show thanks George
Awesome shopping trip. What did you pay for the flower lamp ? It’s cool.
Only $15 but it needs some help
I love the Merry Christmas dish.
Is it safe to eat off still?
I'm pretty sure that one has a lead-free glaze, but there's a site online where you can look up to be sure by pattern and maker name!
So much to love. Looks like you had a great haul.
It was sure fun!
Hi Sweet, kind George.
Hello, Sister!
..... I remember selling a convex victorian brass frame a long time ago at MY OWN yard sale BEFORE I knew that, that frame had value. Live and learn...live and learn, oh well!
Oh yes, and brass is nice! We all learn that way sometimes
Does any one know if that grace dayton plate that had the abc’s around the edge if that was her design or idea Just trying to learn. I seen a blue depression glass one and wasn’t sure if this was a common pattern with the abc’s around the edge it just strictly grace daytons products. Awesome video can’t wait for the next one. I love that you give information on the pieces and not just videos of what they look like.
Hi there! ABC plates became popular in Victorian England as a teaching tool, then spread to the USA and the style you saw there were popular in the 1910s and 20s. Grace's stuff is not unique in that regard, it's more about the square yet round shape of the face that was so popular, it influenced a lot of other cartoonists (like Max Fleischer when he did Betty Boop in 1930)
@@TheAntiqueNomad thanks alot for the information. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Waiting to see your next video
Did you see the Chico State red ball cap? My old college! Chico ,California . Also Home of Sierra Nevada Brewery .
Yes! And a lot of good antique malls, at least back when I used to get there
Thanks George❤
Thank you for Sharing. I hope I can get a ride to the Rose City show would enjoy meeting you. Please Stay Safe Happy and Healthy Have A Wonderful Day
I hope so too! It'd be great to meet in person
Hi from Australia George, your pandas are koalas 😅 so cute, love your channel
Oh brother, of course they are! Thank you and hi down under, it's so lovely to have you join us
Great show and now you are an official dealer because you have a cart!! lol
You got that right!
I laughed when you pointed out the plastic soldiers that you said were meant to blow up with firecrackers. I was part Tomboy growing up and that is exactly what I did with my boy cousins! We built forts for the calvary and corals for the horses with little broken sticks!
Lol yes! We set up firecracker IED's on a bare hillside so dad couldn't say we were going to burn up the property
george do you think that they will bring back the show at the St Pete coliseum
Someone needs to bring that back! It was such a pretty show, it would take someone in St. Pete willing to get the local dealers involved and go recruit dealers at the other Florida shows to do it.
Those old catalogs make great reference material for vintage toy collectors. You can go back and see what accessories and vehicles there were for your one of's.
Thanks for another great show! I look forward to each one and it seems always like a long wait from Wednesday until Monday!
Thank you! It does for me too, but I need time to do more videos!
Hysterical when you said the ones you blew up with firecrackers!! Painted such a mid west picture with that comment!
We were doing the same out in Washington state when I was a kid
Oh this place is so fun ... I love messy boxes of stuff ... Super great info thanks George
Enjoying the video. just bought 6 Syroco items and mirrors this last weekend at a church sale; learning more and more about Syroco and hollywood regency style items. Thanks for pointing those trending items out.
I'm glad you're enjoying that look! There's a lot of cool stuff in the style
✨❤️🧡💛💚💙💜✨

For anyone listening, "Juliana" was a small sort-lived collection made by Delizza and Elster. Some of it has been identified because it was found with the hang tags and noted. D&E was never signed unless it was made for another company ...and had the other company's name. It scrapes fingernails down the chalkboard every time I hear a piece of D&E called Juliana without documentation. There are other names like that too, but it's the one that cheeses off rhinestone jewelry collectors.
Yes, that is actually true! I fall into it as well because when I say D&E to a new collector, I have to say "they made Juliana" for them to get it. Juliana was only a line of theirs for a few years in the 1960s
Thanks for showing all that flatware!
I wish I'd been able to show by pattern! I'll look for more
Fun, nice and calm😊
Thank you! 😃I'm so glad we can do this for everyone
Good evening, George! I could tell, from the go, that would be a place I'd really enjoy browsing. I was surprised to see the George Wallace portrait there. I would've loaded up on those doilies. There was a glimpse of what looked like a mini Consolidate Glass _Cosmos_ lamp there. I have two of those - one with a shade and one without. There's one of those cymbal playing monkeys here, still in its original box. I spotted a pretty chocolate pot where those lamps were. There didn't look to be any cups or saucers with it, though. That framed purse and gloves set interested me. At $60.00, that would've been really tempting. There was a fleur de lis and a sword, in the $2.00 jewelry, that I liked. Love the swashbuckler bookends! I would've been all over those Scooby Doo figures 😂 How long were you there? I would've been there all day! Tons of interesting items to browse! Thanks for taking us along!
You'd have had fun at this one! George Wallace did well with laborers in Kentucky in his election runs. I really like the Cosmos mini lamps, I finally got one recently myself! The chocolate pot would've gotten my notice if it had been a full set. I bet there was a story behind the flapper gloves and purse that would've been interesting to know! Loved the swashbucklers, if condition had been just a bit better...
The floral lamp is awesome!
I hope I can make it so again!
