Metawa, the Metaalwarenfabriek in Tiel, The Netherlands, operated from 1923 till 1973 - that bowl is at least 50 years old.
WOW
Girl you need to create a book!! With info on artists, tips for decorating etc, your favourite finds, popular resell items, how to spot artists work and all the things you talk about in the videos so we can carry it with us when we go on treasure hunts❤
Oh yaaas!
I'd be down to buy a good ole' coffee table book!
Laura, you should be awarded a Prize for the Best Pair of Eyes in the Thrift-to-Resell-or-Keep World! AMAZING FINDS + AMAZING DISPLAYS!!! THANKS!
I read your comment, after I had written something with the exact same sentiment, just said differently. So, yes, I completely agree with you!
I really liked this method of showing what you’ve purchased. You film the moment of finding it in the store, then give a description, and then display it. You aren’t filling the video up with too much chatter.
Laura, I’m enjoying your styling each purchase throughout the episode instead of tagging it at the end.
Agree
Yes, it makes a huge difference.
If Laura sees a random pottery vessel, that many will overlook, Laura will find another two, create an intetesting collection, and style them with other books, greenery, etc.
It gives each piece more meaning and gives people ideas. Great vision. 👍
Exactly my thought, it is seamsless enjoyable and so full of advice ! Th editing is so beautifully done ! Keep the good job.
I love the way you edit your videos! Very cool to see you find the item, then car chat about the item, then see it staged!
Laura, these are my favorite kinds of videos you do. Thrifting, providing great information, & decorating/styling. Thank you so much. Love your energy, knowledge, & your kind heart.
Hear Hear, I agree so much ❤
Your style is impeccable. Whenever you stage something I'm not too sure about, I always end up loving it.
Thank you! 🥰
Well done to Jesse for suggesting this idea 👍👍I’m so enjoying this series and the hauls so far have been genius ❤
I am loving this series. A big thank you to Jessie for his "suggestion"...and to you for taking the challenge!!
I know you have heard this many times before but the Goodwills in your state are amazing. There are 7 Goodwills in the county I live in and even if you took everything from them and put it all in one store, it would still be lacking by comparison!
PS My profile photo here was taken on a visit to Portland 💚, overlooking the International Rose Garden. 🌹
I live in Toronto, in Canada. All of our Goodwill stores went out of business several years ago - bankruptcy. There's not much to replace them - a few rather sad-looking Salvation Army stores. I am completely gobsmacked at the incredible Goodwill stores in Laura's area. They're clean, organized, and the amazing things she finds! My dream is to visit the Pacific Northwest and follow Laura's travels to all the stores, vintage, antique, thrift, flea markets, and drive up and down that beautiful coast. Sigh.
@@maryclaremayo6157 What a great road trip that would be. I can't agree more about the Goodwill Stores in the Pacific Northwest. I live in Sonoma County, CA. and we do have a few local thrift stores that are enjoyable to browse but nothing like those shown in these videos.
I love this idea. A friend and I are being Laura copycats. We drew a 60 mile radius circle around our city and hope to visit every thrifts store by August. 😂
Wish I could ride with you! Sounds exciting ! Have a wonderful time. Greetings from the south tip of Texas
Sounds fun!
Laura, you have such an amazing eye, and your ability to grab random items you like and put them together with things you already own to make phenomenal combinations is unparalleled. Wow, just WOW!!!
Thank you so much! 😄
Love this series! Not only new venues and items but your thoughts on why you buy and how you style. Very inspirational!
Thanks so much Kathy!!
Love your sweater, beautiful color on you. My problem with thrift stores is I want to keep everything I buy. Ran out of room. 😊
Your husband has turned out to be the "Idea" man. This tour is fun.
Jesse is the "still waters run deep" guy, lol.
Did you see his Tikki Taxi last summer? It was so create and fun.
My favorite LEFT COAST GIRL is doing the GW tour!🧡🧡🧡🧡
The Goodwill stores here in Minneapolis tend to be not worth a stop. Most of them are really messy, filled with broken items and lots of Target store leftovers sold at increasingly higher prices. The best items are now pulled out and sold online. (Boo!)
Most of all, they are definitely a for-profit business whose CEO pulls down a hefty salary. We have so many thrift stores here in the Twin Cities and most of them are non-profit. Those are the stores that I donate to and also buy from to create a perfect circle.
Yes, Goodwiil supports a charity but with a very small percentage of their profits. I prefer to shop at thrifts whose entire profit goes towards a charitable cause. I do really love your sense of design adventure and our mutual dislike of still-useful items going into landfills.
Regional variation. My Goodwills in the Midwest are the same. I do find Art Pottery but it doesn't sell for much locally and the cost of shipping destroys it value as well. I like to watch the videos but it's not my world.
That green bedspread! I was holding my breath that you were going to buy it. Can't wait to see it in your guest room!
Alright you young 'uns, step aside! This video series is for us seniors over 50+ !!! tee hee just kidding. I told Laura that when I saw the title on the first one of the series, that I thought she meant 50+ years, not stores!
The real MVP of this series so far are those matches lol.
Ha ha! So true. I said to myself, "Leave it to Laura to have beautiful matches." Lol
This series is pure gold!
If you see Italian pasta get it. It is round up free along with most chemical ingredients. A lot of things are banned in Europe so it is a better for you pasta.
Laura- your energy and passion are wonderful. That blue sweater is fabulous with your eyes and your vlog is the best!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much Joanne! So grateful for you watching and your support ❤️❤️❤️
I have the exact same bowl with the three balls on each side in pewter. My mother brought it back from Germany in the 50’s. Have loved it since I was a toddler. It now resides in my home.
That Italian pottery made my heart go pitter patter!!!
I’m obsessed with it 😍
me too!
at 11.54, you picked out an Italian candlestick. The basket in front of it are always worth looking at too, because they are also made in Italy and mostly are silver plated, but occasionally can be sterling. They have markings on the base.
The green bedspread is just stunning! Thanks for inspiring me to decorate and gift thrifted finds.
I like the bowl the way it is! 🤩
Laura, I absolutely love all your findings, and your beautiful blue sweater. The long leaves details are very delicate and interesting ❤
I love how u handle the wares, with gentle loving hands 😊 ..u place them in the trolley with respect and honour them..I love how you turn them over slowly for us to get a good view of all the elements of the piece..Thankyou
Your Goodwills are a lot better then what we have in Midwest and Florida
Here at Houston, Texas are junk only
My favourite thing about you and your thrifting videos are that you buy the things. I loooove that. It’s so satisfying to watch. I feel like I’m doing the shopping 😅
My Goodwill stores are nothing like yours.😔 Great finds!! 👍
I love all of your finds, you have great goodwills . I live in Ohio and I never find things like you do. Don’t get me wrong , my whole house is antique and vintage and a lot of the things come from thrift stores and inherited. I am so blessed to have family antiques. You have a great eye for the good stuff. God bless 🥰
I love your hair down. Such a sweet girl plus I’ve learned so much. Thanks so much Laura and continued success.
Im am a new follower but I love that you go over and explain each piece, why you bought it, and how to style it! I am enjoying this series too!
Thank you so much Courtney! And welcome!! 😄
Laura! The brown glass canister is a 1960s Danish Holmegaard Primula Apothecary Jar by Jacob Bang 😍 One of my grails! Your eye just knows 😍😍
Those Italian plates, saucers, and cups are fantastic!! And I really want to see that green bedspread styled on the bed!
I would polish the brass
I think that particular brass bowl would look great polished.... it is such a minimal design i feel like clean and shiny would work best :)
Sarah, I really prefer most metals with a patina, as it brings out the depth of the pattern, but the magnificent, minimalist design of that brass bowl begs to shine. : )
I agree. I always polish brass. I don't love "rustic" design.
That sweater/jacket you're wearing is GORGEOUS. Did you thrift that? Blue is definitely your color!
Goodwill baby!! Thrifted it recently 😄
@27:37 A big YES! I love this Throw!!
A while back, you shared how you have a condition that you can’t imagine things. Forgive me for not remembering what it is called. I think it is amazing how you can envision the pieces that you find with other items and even transforming their style just by changing the things around them like you did with the clock. You are an Overcomer. Your love for vintage and style has given you a vision and an ability like no one else has. I think it is BECAUSE of the condition that you have. I am not sure how you do it, but maybe it is because your brain is not cluttered with all of the other things that those of us without your condition are cluttered with. what a gift and talent you have. Your videos are amazing. I love seeing you shop for the items and then styling them. Also, you’re videoing and editing skills are amazing. All your videos are so enjoyable to watch and inspiring to try decorating in different ways and I have learned so much about what to look for when I am out thrifting. I can’t wait for the next video in this series👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁
@lesliespradley8897 I know, it's amazing how brilliant Laura is with finding and styling all these treasures. The condition is called aphantasia.
Great comment. That video you are referencing made me realize I had the same condition, it was so impactful to me. How interesting and ironic to think that could be the reason why she’s so creative!
Thank you so much Leslie, you’re so kind to have left this uplifting comment 🥰 It’s called Aphantasia. I really do believe it is a huge contributor to my creativity and you nailed it with the part of my mind not being full of other visuals that get in the way of creating/designing. I can’t speak for what it’s like to visualize, and it’s hard to explain, but for me it’s more of an instinct. I do struggle with larger projects like landscaping 😂 I’m fine with interiors when it’s a full room but I get nervous making big choices like exterior house paint and landscaping. Since I can’t visualize and those are not easy to change 😂 I rely on inspiration photos and apps to display the project for those!
Spot on...I'm enjoying every part of these videos..love how Laura pairs things together ❤️ can't wait for the next one!
It is interesting to learn about aphantasia. I remember taking my mom shopping in a large fabric store in my city. She walked around and around the store looking for fabric for the pattern she had in her hand. I finally asked her what she was looking for so fruitlessly. She explained that she was looking for the blue and white window pane checked fabric that was on the pattern cover. It was what drew her to the pattern itself and she could not imagine it being made in anything else. I was quite surprised by this but I then understood her dilemma. We found another lovely blue fabric that made her happy and I finished the dress before she went home after her visit.
The difference in all your Goodwills compared to the Goodwills near me is mind-blowing!! Our home/houseware sections combined would possibly equal one of the rows in your stores…one!! Your stores look like a TJMaxx or Marshall’s compared to ours!! ☹️
Patina perfect! That being said, there is a difference between patina and grunge ;)
Would you consider showing us your outfit in the videos? I just love your clothing style!!😍
When I lived in Napoli we had windowsills with a monochromatic pallet of the same color geraniums on our balcony overlooking Bari. Such a memory.
Enjoying seeing the Oregon thrift stores and all the great finds! Born and raised Oregonian this is a treat
I'm so glad you are doing this! It's really fun!
Thanks for joining me!
I’m Australian and our thrift stores (we call the Op Shops) are horrendous. Clothing is sold for more than new price and any goods that are actually worth money are sold on eBay instead of being put out on the shelves. All we are left to sift through is basically rubbish. And these days you are hard pressed to find an op shop that will even take donations. They usually have signs up saying donations not accepted. I had a trailer load of kitchenware, clothing and shoes from a deceased estate (an old friend had passed), the Op Shop refused the donation and told me to take it to the rubbish dump 😢
Oh no! Wish I was there to buy items from you. 😢😢😢
Edvard Munch - last name is pronounced "munk" like in chipmunk. Just adding to your ever-increasing store of knowledge. :). Sometimes when you go to all these stores it makes me despair over how much endless stuff there is! It's so nice that you are rescuing things.
Can you do a video on how you pack your items you sell? Kind of like a "Ship with me" video.
I was at Ohio,Indiana,Illinois,Kentuck,Georgia,Alabama in last 2 months and the prices are ridiculous crazy 🤪 expensive especially in Kentucky ufff😂
your smokey glass canister from minute 21:35 is a Holmegaard Primula glass canister from de designer Jacob Bang
Came here to add that too! :)
Thank you for the info!!!
@@leftcoastrevivals I found a really tall one here in New Zealand without a lid and I initially thought it was new, on trend piece, but then I got 'that feeling' and was stoked to have trusted my instincts and find it was Holmegaard.
They're typically listed as Holmegaard apothecary jars. The cork lid is someone's creative substitution, but the jar can always be used in other creative ways.
I would leave the petina on the brass bowl with the 3 balls on each side of the top edge. I also love the wrought iron or cast iron (3) candle stick, very different. I am loving this series Jesse unknowingly challenged you to do! You are just the cutest couple! (I could be your grandma so I’m not just being weird! )
I am loving this thrifting trip. I can’t wait for the next episode!! You are killing it with all these finds!! I’m so excited!!!😝
Hi Laura, I say polish that brass! I love polished brass and I love to do it too, lol
I’ve been trying to cut back on resell shopping because I’m slow to list and I’ve got a lot of inventory. Your videos help me get my shopping fix. I absolutely love your style.
Okay WOW the orange red bowl styling is my favorite one yet! The dice, clip, clock, chicken thing and horse print!!! Looks amazing. I thought the bowl had some wild colors, but shows how a major transformation with styling
What fun today !!! ❤🦘
I really appreciate how you're opening people's eyes to decorative items, that may not have any intrinsic value (or be the named treasures most others are on the lookout for) but when displayed well, look as good as any over-expensive, designer piece. These things would otherwise get overlooked, unappreciated and will just be discarded into landfill. Thank you.
Finally you pick up something in my color range 😂🎉😂 reds yellows orange 🍎 🍊 🍋 🥑 I’m loving my tiger crewel tapestry! 🤩
I’m so happy it went to you!! 🐯
I thought it was absolutely brilliant what you did with the 1980s clock. That was some genius level re-imagining of one of the dominant looks of an entire decade. I grew up with that whole "Max Headroom" new wave '80s look and have always felt it wouldn't play well with anything LOL. Nice work changing my mind!
Loving your style and the styling! It makes it so much more special. Great video.
Another great video Laura. The designs on brass are usually engraved using an engraving tool (you can see the marks on your finds) whereas etching uses acid and a resist material.
Laura your hair is gorgous! Love seeing all your finds that suit your style so well.
Hi Laura!
I watch you all the time & never noticed this before, but your first stop or 2, it appears you had company in the back (passenger side) traveling/floating from the back to up front past you. Rewatch at these marks . . . @ 8:05, then @ 12:15, and again @ 16:30. Single orbs appeared from the back on the passenger side to up front. Larger ones initially & then smaller. I only saw them from the earlier stops.
*** I have sage . . . but I definitely do not smudge enough. I see you have smudge sticks in some of your prop pics. Going on 20 yrs of collecting, 15 years of selling & I/we have seen & experienced a few things 😉😉. Nothing wrong with a "cherished item". I've even experienced an attempted ice cold attachment after having a short black mass run in front of me @ a favorite antique shop. Hubby is my witness. 😊 Sensitive empath here . . . and they seem to "gravitate" to empaths. ***
Love that your style & mine are so similar. I'm excited to see what else you find. And the geraniums!! Love them because they remind me of my mom & they're from Italy ! A twofer ❤
Wow, I don't know how you spotted the orbs? Just for fun I went back to rewind and see what you saw. I did see them eventually. I had to rewind a few times and slow down my speed down to see them.
I normally watch videos at 1.5, lol. Good spot. 👍😁
You are SO TALENTED!
Thank you for the info. on the glass bowl !!!! I inherited a green one from my grandmother. I have never seen another one until you grabbed that yellow one with the red tips. Again thank you !!!!❤
You should go to the Packwood flea market in Packwood Washington...it's like 5 miles Long. Every Memorial day and Labor day weekend.
Love these Goodwill series! I know you do so many wonderful things, but I must admit I love your Goodwill visits the most. Greetings from the Netherlands.
OmGoodness, both set of plates, the picture and a gorgeous bedspread...Damn Girlfriend, what a haul!!!
I love anything with red geraniums. ❤ The dishes were so pretty. I'd be on the hunt for more.😊
I am definitely all in on Team Patina! 😁
And I am honestly impressed with how you styled up that square clock - I have to admit I kind of snort laughed when you picked it up, but you gave it your magic touch!
Also - that coverlet was stunning.
Hi LAURA. I am really enjoying your new Goodwill series. The shops are so different although they are they same Goodwills. I love the glass canisters you picked up I used them for rice and pasta instead of keeping them in the plastic bags and they stay fresher also tidier.
I love the Italian Flower plates and cups!
Your blue outfit is stunning, very flattering on you
I was waiting for something with color. This is my 5th video😮❤❤❤
You have such a good eye! This is a fun series! I would love to see a video about how you store your items for resale, for staging, & the process for shipping. I'm a part-time reseller & I'm trying to figure out the best way to store items for quick retrieval once they sell. I really enjoy your style & your channel!
Another tip for special finds that are breakable--ask to wrap them up yourself. I have lost so many treasures because the checkout person dropped it and broke it while hustling it into a sheet of newspaper.(They "killed" a stone Buddha only last week even though I asked the woman to handle with care) This is heartbreaking, but it can be avoided if you ask politely to prep your own stuff.
Ohhh yes to this!! A Goodwill employee broke a glass shelf in a mid century bar cart of mine by tipping it over (it wasn’t attached) it happened in slow motion for me and I couldn’t do anything to stop it 😭
@@leftcoastrevivals Oh, that's such a bummer. I watched the Buddha fall in slow motion too--the woman got jostled by a customer and she bobbled it before she dropped it. At least they gave me the pieces for free, and I will try to restore the head to the body with some colored glue or mortar. Wabi-sabi, right?
I could NEVER shop with you as I would want all the same things!!! I LOVE your style and taste!!!
Leave the patina! It's so beautiful that way, it reflects all the love that people put in to it.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH LAURA FOR SHARING THE ADDRESSES OF THE GOODWILL LOCATIONS YOU VISIT! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL SO MUCH!
You're going to have to go thrifting in Norway so your hubby can see an original Scream in the museum in Oslo. (The Salvation Army thrift store in Stavanger has great stuff.)
Hi from New Zealand! So happy I found your channel. I have been trying to catch up and watch everything! Sadly our 2nd hand stores here are small, but you've inspired me to do a thrifting road trip!
Your description of the "how" and "why" Squarespace could be helpful was the most understandable I have ever watched. I get it now, especially, with a following like you have.
You have a wooden checker board like bowl in your vignettes ... I have a similar one and hope you could tell me more about it. Love you shopping all the GoodWills!!
I am loving this channel and this series of goodwill shops.
Yes!!! The cool factor can be a game changer!!!💞💞🙃💞💞
I love the Haeger base, very elegant ❤
The Scream! My favourite piece.
Laura you have made my life exciting this past days! I keep following you around. You keep finding some unique items. I'm glad you have this series! Thanks
Would love to see where you store all your tiki party goodies! Or at least the amount of boxes once it’s all out and before you start decorating 🫶
❤So much good stuff & Fab Styling! I have been collecting little orphan studio pottery dishes myself, after suffering bad regrets from leaving an especially good one behind. Happens! Especially liked your layering of plates! Pretty! The bedspread is Epic, love it love it love it. Thank you for the video xo
Im so enjoying this Goodwill journey with you.... you're on a roll with so many great finds, with so many great tips for thrifting and styling. Cant wait for part 3 :D
You could use that yellow/red bowl to serve a fruit salad or watermelon at your Kontiki party!
Lucky lucky lucky Laura 🤩 I’m enjoying this picking road journey adventure! O I wish we had those giant thrift stores here in the UK 🇬🇧 so much choice ! Our charity shops are so small and boring 🙄💓💫🙏🏼🕊
The green bedspread is everything. What a find! You have a fantastic eye Laura. Another great episode.
The Indiana glass bowl would have come with a dip bowl and metal attachment to hang on the chip bowl! I have the same bowl ❤😊
I Love all your thrifting shops in the PNW. So much fun ..
Laura, I totally get the allure of Italian pottery---but have you had any experience with California Pottery---all those mid-century pieces which every 'hostess with the most-ess' in the U.S. collected? Many of the pieces are stunning and of the most varied designs/colors/motifs. Handmade and signed. And here in the U.S., they can be had for a song, at least right now. Old Tiffin Franciscan dish/glassware patterns----quarried in California for 80yrs until the company closed----are also plentiful and cheap---for now anyway. And the patterns are so unique. I may have missed it, but don't recall hearing you mention California Pottery or Tiffin Franciscan...both of which are treasure troves for the MCM collector/decorator, and still plentiful---for the time being, especially in the United States. :)
