    27:19 We had a Caloric when I was kid. Gas stovetop that died of old age eventually. Or rather, one burner control died and it was so old we couldn't get parts. The KI railroad lantern was probably a shortline. I don't know it, and my dad would have taught me. If it was K&T it was Kentucky and Tennessee. I found a little lapel pin from a LA/TX shortline once, in a random lot. Paid $10 for the lot. The pin sold for over $300 in an online auction. Stuff from the line was rare and collectors were rabid. So... if you find marked shortline pieces, nab 'em.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh, I was thinking it was Kansas-Texas (Katy) Line! My granddad was the railroad man but he died long before I was born, so I never got to learn more, he worked for the Rock Island and Rio Grande lines. Short lines are great, what a score! My folks had an old Norge range that eventually couldn't be repaired when a burner went out, but I have a friend who still cooks on a 1950 Westinghouse

    Hi George! 👋
    Had to pause to comment before i forget...lol
    I wonder if Boy Scout Memorabilia will go up in price with the new name change to Scouting America in feb 25. Might be a good time to prospect before everyone thinks about it.
    We still have to have yearly inspections on our vehicles in Maine. And going back to the beginning, as a young girl my Mom brought home a steamer trunk like yours but it was pink and pretty. Since our old house had only 2 closets, my sisters in the bunks shared a big dresser and i got the steamer for my clothes. It felt really special. I also slept on spring cot that could be folded out to sleep two. It was so comfy. And we shared the room until i was a teenager. My 3 older brothers eventually made the attic into their cave and i got a room that myself and my littlest brother who was under 5 and only went there to sleep, shared.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed about Scouting, but I've always done well with it anyhow! Maine too, a bunch of places apparently still do them. I think the steamers are great for kids wardrobes!

      Yes! It was an interesting experience. One day it got broken playing Lava Football - our own particular brand of Lave and football at the same time - great when you have a big bowling alley shaped living room. It's big, but it pre-dates Tommy Hilfiger by about 50 years! People like them because they provide extra storage in a guest room, a convenient place to hang sewing projects and put sewing notions and supplies, etc. I don't think most people use them to travel now, although I did sell one to a traveling musician who was intending to use it. Americans tend to have larger homes where this sort of thing can fit.

      I had 5 of them over the years, and that is actually true! They put their motor up against a Chevy motor in the 1950s and the Chevy blew up under stress long before theirs did. Problem was, Studebaker drivers knew this and would hold their cars 5-8 years at a time when most people traded in every 3 years.

    Did you ever attend the Harpers Ferry WV flea market? Now gone. It was on the grounds of a previous drive-in movie theater. I sure miss the old drive-in theaters outside! Maybe there are just a few left. Thanks for sharing.

      There's actually still one open in Madawaska, Maine. The Skyline Drive In....

      I wish I had seen it! We lost our flea markets in the Seattle area when those drive-ins were sold to big hardware stores. There's one in Lakeland, Florida that serves as a drive-in still, and has flea markets on the weekends

    How fun! Other day I found the rare double clam shell bowl by hull in the drip ware. It may not seem to special but is one the most rare pieces in that line. Made a short video on it. 😊 it’s one to look out for if people don’t already know.

    Another fascinating video. I’m from the U.K. where we all have to have our cars (except some vintage motors) on an annual basis at an authorised garage to ensure that they are safe and roadworthy. Don’t you have to have them in the U.S?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is done by state, and only some do it stilll. Most cars are so uniformly made now that the assumption is a cop can pull you over if you're really in bad shape, otherwise if it's drivable it's fine!

    NOTHING more depressing than a rainy - questionable flea market . . That said ; on a rainy market day - I had the score of my life: a small suitcase filled with Howard Johnsons and other restaurant menus from the 1960s and 1970s !
