    I wish these budget laptops would just move to USB C charging it would make it a bit more useful to justify it as a web browsing machine that you throw it in the bag and not worry about it

    • @RidwanGosal
      @RidwanGosal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are very few manufacturers who committed using usb c charging in lower end laptops. Mostly not very well known OEMs or niche manufacturers without extensive warranty coverage. Asus does have a few entry level models that support USB charging but the model's availability isn't widespread.
      Its kinda weird that USB c is becoming more ubiquitous thx to smartphones but laptops manufacturers refuse to make decent entry lvl laptops that support it for God knows why.

    • @landsverkchristian
      @landsverkchristian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @qtsssim it’s more the convenience factor of not needing to bring another power brick with you for a low power laptop like this.

    • @beigebox1990
      @beigebox1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, USB-C charging should be the default for these laptops, universal and you can use a power bank to charge it. The only reason I can think against that connector in this is if the 14" screen is a little too power hungry to be comfortable when maxing out the CPU, brightness and with added peripherals.

    • @SweBeach2023
      @SweBeach2023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beigebox1990 USB C can push 100 watt, I suspect this laptop doesn't draw much more than 15 watt at full load.

    • @beigebox1990
      @beigebox1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SweBeach2023 Higher wattage and voltage means only the included USB-C charger is compatible, though it's still better than a proprietary connector. I wish some smaller laptops could use 12V/2A/25W max so a wide variety of affordable chargers and power banks could power them, or at least trickle charge them.

    For those complaining, what are you expecting from a $100 laptop? LOL
    A pretty good alternative (if you want to use an external monitor) is Samsung DEX. I've been using it about 75% of the time and it actually works REALLY well for web surfing, email, excel and light office work. It's not perfect, but feels very responsive. I often have several apps and browser tabs opened at once and have never noticed any lag. This is on a Galaxy S20 with a Baseus dock and wireless keyboard/mouse.

      I’m thinking the same. I got one just as a stand in until I upgrade to a MacBook and it gets the job done. It might have a seizure on a zoom call but it was $85.99 plus tax so I’m chillin lol

    • @vvvios
      @vvvios ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really think in the future, people will carry around portable screens and just use Samsung Dex or Motorola Ready For, basically using their smartphone as a computer. So many people spend $700+ on their smartphones anyway, they're definitely more than powerful enough for the majority of laptop tasks. I know Mr. Mobile on TH-cam made a video about his portable workstation using the Samsung Fold 3. He called it "The Four-Pocket Laptop" since he could actually fit everything in his pockets lol. He shows it at the seven minute mark of this video. th-cam.com/video/wrm_VWsmMS4/w-d-xo.html

    Nice video as always! I think this one has the same guts as the Ideapad D330 2 in 1 tablet, so what we have here is the power of a low end windows tablet with none of the benefits of the form factor.

    Thanks for another excellent video review! Your comprehensive & detailed product evaluations are always beneficial in helping buyers make well-informed purchasing decisions. Speaking of low-priced laptops, I'd love to see a review of the 2022 Asus CX1700 17.3" Chromebook [CXB170CKA-212.BCLN6]. Best Buy is currently selling it for $199.00 (though I don't know how long this sale is likely to last...) I'm curious to know whether it is a good bang-for-the-buck value, and there seem to be virtually no Internet reviews of this laptop so far. Specs appear to be fairly decent for the price, and Asus also claims that it meets MIL-STD 810H US military durability standards. I like BIG laptops, and this one looks rather intriguing...

    I bought it today. Because my HP 14bs could not handle apple juice. Compared to Pentium Gold 4415U in it, this one has half the power consumption (6W instead of 15), nvme slot, fullHD display (Which is not so bad at all) and weight is also more than 50% reduced. Another things are smaller power adapter, smaller sd card slot and for me a big surprise very good touchpad, much better than HP had.

    I bought the black Friday Ideapad 1i from Bestbuy, the one my dad got had a Mediatek wifi chip so Linux works fine on it with a newer kernel, but I also bought one for myself and it came with the Realtek one and I couldn't get the rtw89 driver to work, so I swapped an Intel AX200 into it, mine interestingly enough has some type of heatpipe cooler an a 2280 m.2 slot, I tried a SATA drive in it and it didn't work, I have an 128gb nvme drive on order to see if it works at all, I'm guessing it's probably PCIe only since they probably don't use SATA drives anymore so they saved on BOM cost by not connecting SATA to the m.2 port.

  • @biscuits6576

    On sale at best buy for $99. I think these laptops should not be made. A dual core with ht/smt would be the lowest processor I would ever buy with a minimum of 8gb of ram. I wouldn't even recommend this as a child's laptop because if they wanted to do anything more than look at the internet the laptop would let them down and would not grow with them. These laptops are the equivalent of a burner phone.

      Get a refurbished Acer Spin 513 for $180 off ebay, mine was seemingly brand-new and unopened. Touchscreen, convertible, super bright screen, runs great. No, these Ideapads are not exactly high-performance machines, haha! They do run silently, though.
    I happened to buy the similar model from a couple of years ago, but with a lower grade processor, I think the Intel 3550, and a smaller screen, the 11 inch.
    The important thing to remember, is to buy a machine with a SATA HDD, because then you can install a faster, better SSD.
    Also, if possible, try to get a model with a TFT screen, instead of the lousy TN variant. I know they used to make them in two variants. The TN screen on my machine is very disappointing, especially when viewed from an angle.
    However, as an internet machine, my Ideapad 11 has worked well. The wifi network card is "ac", and really good.
    It also has an HDMI-port, which makes it easy to hook up to a flatscreen tv or second monitor, and use as a video entertainment machine.
    Also, be careful to chose the 4 GB ram model, since the 2 GB is completely useless. With 4 GB these Ideapads will run acceptably well under Win 10.
