when she was telling the weather forecast in the prison, i feel like she truly realised that she lost everything, and she can never come back from it. i believe doing the weather forecast in prison made her realise how much she missed her life. it’s so satisfying to see her lose everything, both her teen and adult actress were very talented.

At first, I thought the revenge was too light. But now I think it’s the perfect revenge because she lost everything: her career, her daughter, her marriage, her affair, her friends, her mother, her freedom and now as we see in this scene even her ability to intimidate others as she becomes a potential bully target herself. The craziest part is Dong eun didn’t have to forcefully take them away from her, she was surrounded by shitty people who wouldn’t hesitate to backstab her. And she didn’t hesitate to throw away her marriage to the one sane person in her life. As Dong eun said, “they did it themselves”

Brilliant analysis! This revenge was thorough enough: Yeon Jin has lost everything she's ever wanted, worked for, or received. I think if I had to make any changes, it would be to have Yeon Jin lose her physical beauty as well, perhaps have the same burn marks on her body. Still, with the predicament she's in, beauty is the only thing left for her, but even that would fade eventually.

Came back to remark on how mindblowingly good this actress was in owning this scene. If you look past the immediate, cathartic, villain-gets-comeuppance satisfaction to the scene, actress Lim Jiyeon knocks it out of the park by displaying 5 distinct emotions in one minute; but more impressively, at any given moment you can see 2-3 of these emotions simultaneously competing to be the 'main' emotion displayed on her face.
    1. Weathergirl 'cheeriness' - this is the first and most obviously visible facial expression but also the least authentic, as inmate 3886 is merely playing a character to scratch the other inmates' boredom
    2. Humiliation - just underneath the facade of the smile you can sense her loss of dignity (the same dignity she stole from her many victims); she's become nothing more than a plaything for convicted criminals. She fights this emotion to remain in weathergirl character because dwelling on it leads to ..
    3. Sadness - the smile on her lower face remains but her welling eyes and eventual trickling tear betrays her inner sorrow and abject loneliness - everyone she's ever known turned their backs on her or threw her under the bus (her mom most of all). It's at this moment the viewer might feel an inkling of sympathy, until you get a glimpse of the fourth emotion
    4. Seething suppressed rage - this is the hardest one to see because her smile and the fifth emotion (fear) prevent it from fully coming up to the surface, but for a split second here and there you see the faint muscle twitches that throughout the whole series were precursors to that familiar lip-curled scowl she made anytime her character heard something annoying from her friends or faced Dong Eun 1v1. Here she fights to suppress that scowl, even as inwardly she's probably thinking, "you lowly bitches, how dare you. Do you think I'm one of you? Do you know who the fuck I am?!", because she's also scared of her fellow inmates so the fear pushes her anger back down. But this shows to me she's not a changed person at all - still the same arrogant, selfish, cruel person.
    5. Lastly, there's fear behind that smile - at first her weather report looks identical to her days when she appeared on TV, but as it goes on you see the smile transition to a nervous smile. She's afraid of what these women might do to her even though she's doing what they asked; the sly, almost perverse grin on the main inmate's face makes Yeon Jin dread about how much worse the night might become.
To display even one of these is impressive, but the ability to show multiple expressions alternating and vying for screen time. Ate and left no crumbs.

Yeon Jin (episode 9): "Why do the poor believe in such things like poetic justice and karma?"
Yeon Jin (episode 1): "I want you to dance for us while we listen to music" (to Dong Eun at her house)
Female inmate (episode 16): "Hey cutie, give us tomorrow's weather report"

    • @atkim122
      @atkim122 ปีที่แล้ว +409

Also, right after Yeon Jin finished her "report", there was real fear in her eyes as she made eye contact with one of the female inmates lying on her side while another smaller inmate was fanning her and a third was massaging her shoulders. She's a butch-looking woman. Strongly implied is that this is the "boss" of this woman's prison and that she likely takes a liking to smaller, traditionally feminine-looking inmates like Yeon Jin. The fear compels her to continue on with "part 2" of her weather report, as if ending too soon might earn that woman's wrath or worse. Yeon Jin has probably already been smacked around by this person or even *****ed by her. Now she's fully in her personal gym hell.
Lastly, many Korean prison inmates don't come from a life of privilege. A lot could've had childhoods similar to teen Dong Eun, living in poor moldy inns. You can bet that whenever a snobby rich girl enters their prison they'll take every opportunity to humble her and make her miserable.

Yes, karma is a big thing in the show.
In the first episodes, when Dong-eun says: "All the feet that walked alongside yours, the hands that held yours, the lips that laughed at others' misfortunes, the eyes that gazed at you with affection and your soul, rejoicing in it all" she's of course referring to her bullies.
By the end, Myong-O is dead (thus can't walk anymore), Sa-ra in jail and will probably never use her hands to paint anymore, the flight attendant has lost her voice (thus can't laugh anymore) and Jo-Jeun loses his eyes (which he always used to look at his daughter at school) before dying; Yeon-jin, too, has her soul crushed by her misfortune - losing her husband, her daughter, her mum, her career and her freedom all at once.
So the end is kind of a mockery on Yeon-jin's words, implying that karma and poetic justice do exist.

If only she abandon her ego and actually feel remorse of what she did wrong...how many chances were there just for her to blow it uselessly? Dong Eun was being so nice by giving her the last chance to repent. Her husband, despite the atrocities she had commited, flat out saying he'd be siding with her in front of her victim, held back for so long and make an actual effort to save her from hellhole only for him to get gaslighted and cussed at by his ungrateful wife. Even until the very end she's holding into her stupid pride for god knows why when she literally has nothing at all. Did she even realized her crimes? Truly a phsycopath to the core.

Her acting ability is truly amazing as raw emotions are vividly portrayed. She is really great.
Speaking of this scene, I think this short scene symbolizes the title of the drama ‘The Glory’.
In this scene, a character who has lost everything due to their own fault is punished and shown with unfamiliar criminals.
This character is in a state of having lost everything they previously had, including power, money, honor, and family.
She meets the mother who abandoned her among the unfamiliar people. Her mother abandoned her, but eventually she finds her mother among strangers, and comes to know that her mother couldn't escape the charge of murder despite abandoning her.
Still, She called out to her mother, as if pleading and begging. To me, it seemed like she was asking for love, like a young child.
    But her mother ignored it.
In her punishment, this powerful scene ultimately indicates that there is no one to rely on. She is in hell.
I expected her to shed some tears of regret because she lost everything, but she still seems selfish and her tears appear to be due to her miserable reality and pain.
However, finally she sheds the same “victim” tears as Dong-eun used to shed. She is living while enduring a cruel reality
The title "The glory" represents the downfall of a villain who shone brightly in the past. I think it's the best iconic scene that fits the theme of karma.

think this was the only time i genuinely felt bad for her. lim jiyeon's portrayal of yeon jin was perfect. from her screaming for her mom to her scrambling to entertain the other inmates. a total devastation of her life was truly the perfect revenge. when you first think of it, it seems mild, but looking back at all the episodes, when someone like yeon jin who grow up with everything handed to her on a silver platter, destined to get away with everything and anything, and a perfect life planned out for her which in the end was able to achieve (until it came crashing down of course) has every single thing stripped from her, something which she never saw coming, it is truly majestic. props to all the actors.
you also realize that the mother is just as shallow and yeon jin as a person is a result of her mother's dubious parenting. if she'd been raised well, she probably wouldn't have been the person we saw throughout the series. she calls out to her mom out of desperation like a child, but in the end the mom doesn't claim her because she truly never loved her daughter. in a sense, you feel a bit sad not over yeon jin in specific, but over the reality of a theme that is portrayed many times in the series; twisted parents can make twisted children, & not all parents deserve a child.

      @hpmoody ปีที่แล้ว +75

She lost her husband, the love of her child, her friends, her career and found out her mother betrayed her. All of them got their just desserts.
She did the same thing to Dong Eun as a teen (minus the husband and the child). Dong Eun lost her friends from being a target. People who helped her were forced out of her life. The nurse was forced to resign (whilst she didn't abandon Dong Eun) we all know Yeon Jins mother played apart in it. Dong Eun lost the only person in the school who did her best to protect her.
Gyeong Ran (Siesta employee) was hinted to being her best friend but abandoned her because she didn't want to be bullied and didn't want to have the association (that didn't help because she was next) .
The bullying was bad because she was forced to drop out of school which killed her hopes and dreams of becoming an architect.
Dong Eun was also SA , I think there were hints that JJ got her pregnant and due to her malnutrition, stress and other factors she miscarried ( she complained about severe cramps) . Then Soo Hee's police report indicated that she was 8 weeks pregnant and now that's why it makes total sense she had fear in her eyes when Jae Jun touched her.
The ultimate betrayal was her mother being paid to pull Dong Eun out school for a false reason. She didn't do right by her kid.

There are hints that shows Yeon Jin's life is more hellish than it looks.
The reason why Yeon-Jin screamed at her mother in prison was because she had a glimmer of hope of her mother-as much bitch she was-doing something for gher outside of prison. So when she found out that she too was in prison, she lost all hope.
The woman ordering her around is speculated as a korean gangster due to her tattoos, so it is likely that she was beaten in to submission. And considering the term 'pretty face' is a roundabout way to call someone their bitch in prison? It is very likely that Yeon Jin was raped by her fellow jailmate too.

IF Ye-sol grew up to be a bully, I think Yeon-jin would hide it(Paying the victims to keep quite, changing her school violence record if she gets reported, etc) and let Ye-sol continue, never letting her face the consequences of her action, meanwhile Do-yeong would teach Ye-sol to never do that shit again. The only difference between Yeon-jin parenting and her mother's parenting is that, the mother did it to save her own name and reputation meanwhile Yeonjin would do it because she 'loves' Ye-sol, both style of parenting are problematic at the end of the day

@@kanikagaral7637 When the first bullying story was uploaded online, it was exposing weather forecaster “A” for school violence and that only involved Yeon Jin. The bullying video uploaded by Sa Ra also only showed Yeon Jin bullying So Hee for wearing the same clothes as her and threatening to kill her.
No news came out regarding Hye Jeong being part of the bullies which means her reputation may or may not be affected unlike the others like Sa Ra who may face attempted murder and drug charges and her father being arrested for embezzling church funds. Hye Jeong may be able to go back to her flight attendant job.

I have a crazy theory that Yeonjin probably think she can still get out of the prison because of her mom... But seeing her mom in prison too just killed all remaining hope she had and reacted that way... I know Dong-eun showed her that her mom is capable or leaving her behind too but Yeonjin probably hold out hope that for her mother's reputation's sake, if not love, her mother wouldn't want to be branded as a mother of a murderer and will do anything to get Yeonjin out of prison...
