I want to admire her as a villain but I simply cannot forget the fact that this story was inspired by countless tragedies caused by school violence. It's fun to see her as a stereotypical vamp with amazing style. I had to at times just so I could stomach the show. But you also have to remember, she's a representation of all the kids that could use their influence to get out of their punishments. They're sociopaths that did horrific things most of us couldn't dream of doing and got away with them.

What influence is that? In my country, bullies are always correctly punished by teachers, wheether their families have money or not. The message of this show (teachers will NEVER take disciplinary actions against a buñly just becsuse their parents have money) is ridiculous. The same applies to hiding a murder. In South Korea the police would have needed less than 1 week to know she was the murderer and would have gone to a minor detention center. But real life is too boring for a show, so they took their artistic licencies.

@@jameswalker6864 As much as I also want to believe this is made up for a show, it's not. This may not be realistic in the eyes of Western culture, but I highly suggest you look into the stories of school violence in Asian countries.
The Glory was based on many REAL stories of bullying in East Asian countries where victims were driven to suicide because of the physical AND emotional torture they endured at the hands of their bullies, and these bullies had minimal repercussions. Stephanie Soo has an excellent video that details 9 real bullying cases that inspired the show. I'm still at a loss of words thinking about some of these stories. Time Magazine has an article that says that socioeconomic divide in South Korea is not the only contributing factor to bullying, but its a pretty big one.
Appearance and influence is a huge problem in South Korea, to the point that if you get fired from one job, it's incredibly difficult to get hired for a similar job elsewhere in the country, regardless of your reason for being fired.

@@jameswalker6864in YOUR country. but in countries like south korea, this is real, and it happens. why do you think korean netizens take it VERY seriously when an idol has bullying scandals? because the bullying that happens in SK isn’t some mere cursing or name calling, it’s worse than that, you could even say the bullying there is nearly attempted murder with the horrible things that happen there. and a lot of south koreans have come out and said that the bullying in the glory is similar to the bullying that happens daily in their schools

I hate this title of “savage” as to me it refers to a badass female character. Dong Eun had WAY more savage lines than Yeon Jin as she actually put pathetic people in their place. Being cruel and an evil psychopath is not being savage. Implying that Yeon Jin is any way badass or savage is disgraceful to bullying victims. Liking the actress is fine and all but glorifying such a character is disgusting

I see where you're coming from and I agree. If we were to hear a true crime case about this, we wouldn't have a shred of doubt in our minds that she should get prison time for what she did. I cried my eyes out after hearing about the actual cases that inspired this show (Stephanie Soo did an excellent video on this topic). She shouldn't be excused of her crimes just because she is a gorgeous tall Asian woman with money and influence. THAT is the greater statement this show is trying to get across.

Who's Stephanie Soo? Also, crimes commited by minors are subjected to a different law in all countries including South Korea. An underage person commiting a crime doesn't go to jail, but to a minor centre detention. Also, most forms of bullying are NOT A CRIME as per the penal code of more countries. What they show in the series is obviously a crime (murder and burning other people), but merely putting a derogatory nickname and laughing at another person (the most common form of bullying), is immoral but not a crime.

@@hmdramacentralYou did it, so I wanted to thank you. By the way, I’m thinking about writing a fanfiction that would be about how Hye-jeong’s life turned out after the finale. This happens during the 6 months the last episode skipped. In the fic, Hye-jeong gets her voice back thanks to a vocal cord repair surgery (though she had to pay a lot for that), continues to work as a flight attendant, makes amends towards her bullying victims (including Dong-eun and victims we never got to see) and becomes a better person. The fic ends with Hye-jeong visiting Sa-ra in prison (basically, Hye-jeong tells Sa-ra that she got her voice back and is living her life like nothing happened, before wishing that she’ll suffer in prison, after which she leaves the prison, leaving behind Sa-ra, who screams and whines like a toddler, and Yeo-jeong, who saw the whole thing, runs into her and tells her she did the right choice).
