I owned an original dragons lair arcade machine in the past and it looks like they did a good job with the artwork that is grainy. If I recall that was how it looked on my machine. Can’t wait to build mine. It just came in.

One of the most advanced games in the arcade back there in 84. I remember I lived in California I went to Ron arcade. I played defender missile command, asteroids frog miss Packman every game you could imagine but Dragons lair was hard and it was so advanced it blew our mindhow it could possibly even work

Good video, I subscribed. Being a DL fanatic for over 30 years I must say 1up did a damn good job on this cab despite some minor issues. So glad they went the original rom that matches the original cab. I just need to install my light kit for the coin doors. Black caps for the screw holes really helped as well.
I need to get some caps and lighting the coin door is gonna look cool! Some people have brought up that it seems they’ve left out the first drawbridge scene. Thoughts?
Good choices with Dragon’s Lair and TRON. I like cabinet remakes that use proprietary controls or displays. Star Wars is another example or anything with a spinner or trackball. Spy Hunter would be great addition.
Oh ya! Dragons lair, Tron and the Star Wars cabinet are some of A1up’s best. My 10-year-old self would never believe I would actually own something like these someday. Cheers!
Great review Erik. I especially appreciate seeing the panels before assembly. It's a beautiful looking cabinet and, as a child of the 80s, I've always had a soft spot for Dragon's Lair, although I've never actually enjoyed playing them (I suck big time!). Hope you get your speaker panel sorted, although I bet you can hardly notice it now that it's assembled and in your arcade. Nice that you have both this and Tron! :-)
Yeah with the lights off don’t see any of the scratches on the back panel. So it’s actually not a big deal. I still can’t decide whether there’s a layer of protective plastic on it and that’s what I’m seeing. But I’ve been working one of the corners and I can’t get any film to come off. I’ll probably reach out to them with the question. The unlimited lives feature on this is so awesome. As you can see I suck too. Now I can just continue to die and slowly learn what I need to do. No quarters needed.
@@EvrydayErik that's true about the unlimited lives, and is something that is tempting me to buy the cabinet. Glad that speaker panel is ok. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle of raising a ticket, especially if it's not noticable in the dark. Love that high score screen, another reason why I'm tempted to buy it myself!
Loved the honest review. I have to wait till mid September for my Cab as I live down under in Oz. I sucked at playing back in the day too and was mostly a watcher on the cab. I would love to see a Daytona or Sega Rally cab or even Wonder Boy or Pengo.

I woiuld like to see a Tapper/Timber cabinet, but only if they can get the Budweiser license. Robotron/Smash TV/Total Carnage cab as well. Q*bert would be great, but, with the unique control configuration, it would be tough to pair it with another game.

It would be totally awesome if Arcade1up released a Robocop arcade cabinet. I'm going to pre-order the Time Crisis arcade cabinet as soon as it becomes available.
Yeah that RoboCop game is fun. I do remember playing that in the arcade. I think it’s on my Pandora’s box. Time crisis is going to be very tempting. I’m going to have to pick up a light gun game at some point. Cheers!

Great review Erik, it was very precise. The value of any Arcade 1up it will depend how important the theme is for you. This cab, just like Tron that you enjoy so much (and had high expectations), it's worth the value in my opinion. I paid much more for OutRun and i'm not regretted, I still play almost every day, i love it. This cab in particular is for truly fans of this trilogy and its great, very good emulated, no sound issues and it is beautiful. You will enjoy for sure.👍 I would like very much if they produce an Arcade 1Up with the theme 1942. With all the 6 titles: 1941, 1942, 1943, 1943 Kay, 1944 and 19XX. It wouldn't be very difficult to do since none of these Capcom's games would have problems with any kind of licenses. Spy Hunter... another great title to consider.

Yeah I loved Robotron and Berzerk! They look similar but they’re very different games. Those are two of my favorites for sure and I would have to pull the trigger on those. It would be interesting what they would bundle them with.
Does look incredible and I loved Dragons Lair back when I was a teenager! But not sure I’d play it often enough to justify buying it. I’d love to have the Arcade 1Up Star Wars cabinet but for some reason it’s not for sale in the UK. Thanks for the review.
They will be re-issuing the Star Wars cabinet in the near future. Hopefully they can hook up you guys in the UK. I would highly recommend this dragonslayer cabinet. Just leaving it on brings back the feels.
I forgot about MACH 3, I did see that game once and thought it was incredible! Like cobra command too. I’ll have to check out Thayer. I finally beat the dragon! Lots of fun!
AU1 has now made 3 of my top 6 must haves and made them well (Star Wars, Tron and Dragon's Lair). My other three must haves are Spy Hunter and Afterburner and Vindicators. I doubt they would make Vindicators unless a lot of people petitioned for it, but I have to believe that Spy Hunter and Afterburner are on the horizon.
Cool review! I don’t have any 1up boxes. I have a couple of full size multicades, and a commercial version of Big Buck Hunter ( that I waaaaay overspent on. Ha ha!) I also collect the Replicade Mini Arcade boxes. 1/6th scale that fit with Hot Toys 12 inch figures. Fully functional and pretty amazing.
Well, you’re doing it’s smart. You have one of those full-size multicades, which probably has dragons lair! Also those mini arcades are awesome. You’re gonna have a whole lot more space than I am. Sounds like a legit arcade to me!

I grew up in Longbranch New Jersey back in the 80s and I remember the first day that this game came to our local HUGE Arcade, people were gathered around it all day, well this and ms Pacman 👍🏽❤️

I would LOVE to see a Bubble Bobble Cabinet. Maybe include Bubble Bobble 1 & 2 and Bust A Move (I doubt we'd see anything beyond 1 & 2 due to emulation issues), but if they released one I would preorder it the second they announced it
Dude do you have a tour of your game room? It looks really bad ass. That straight up looks like an old school arcade. Dragons lair is one cabinet I don't own. Just never played the game as a kid. Probably because it came out the year I was born haha. But I'm sure people were blown away by it back in 83. I have a video up of my room if you're interested. Those sound like fun parties! Tell everyone not to get frustrated with dragons lair. The game will let you keep playing so you will eventually get to the dragon and can beat the game. Even if you keep dying and you feel like you’re not making progress, you will be. Everyone’s gonna love this cabinet!
I think the Micro SD card slot is used for extra memory and that extra USB port maybe use for a sun drive so you can use it for extra memory on that as well
I’ll admit I never checked out that version. It’s laser disk, it’s got to be the best. I reviewed the mini version. From new wave toys, that was pretty good too.

I would love to see them do an Atari Battlezone cabinet, but they would probably have to do it without the viewfinder. It's too bad that Sea Wolf was a Midway game, because it would be a great paring if the view finder was added.
Yeah, that Battlezone game was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I loved all those vector graphic games. Star Wars is one of our favorite cabinets still.
My local arcade has this game, though I am not a fan of it personally, I think fans of the game will love this. This cab looks really nice. Well done arcade 1up.
Beating the knight level in Dragon's Lair when I was like 9 years old at my local pizza shop I felt like I'd scored a touchdown in the NFL. Was the original co-op where your friend asked you to step in and you'd better beat the level
Lol, I can appreciate that. I was terrible at this, but loved watching other people. I did end up beating the dragon. Thankfully the machine let you keep dying by progressing.

I know this is old but my question to you is will you be keeping you iiRcade or will you try to reskin or something? I have the DL iiRcade and being a DL fan want this one not that its on sale but don't really want 2 dragons lairs in my arcade.
I was a Showbiz Pizza kid too. I really wanted to buy this cabinet, mostly for display, but because I’ve had so many problems with my Tron arcade machine I’m waiting for the price to plummet. Speaking of Tron you really need to work on your scores! As far as another cabinet I want I think the only ones I’m holding out for might be a Daytona USA and a Sega Star Wars trilogy from the 90s.
Yeah I have not put the time into Tron to figure out the third tank battle. I’m kind of stuck on that one. I was hoping my score is so terrible no one would even go and find it. My discs of Tron score held for a while, I’m gonna have to go back in there and do some work. Yeah I went to a showbiz in Davenport Iowa of all places. But it was awesome! You’re not gonna get a better display cabinet than this one. Just turn it on and let the introduction movie repeat itself every 10 seconds. Good luck with your Tron cabinet, when these don’t work right it’s incredibly frustrating.
@@EvrydayErik on the 3rd tanks, immediately go up and turn left at the first path then down at the next path then left between the 2 dots. (this should put you at the same height as the transporter). stay between these dots the whole time. immediately shoot the tank that is just above you and to the left, then shoot the tank at the top of the screen, then the 2 that will be just below you, and finally take care of the last 2 as the come towards you.
Good review video! Don't think I wouldn't be willing to spend $650 on it, but to each its own! Spy Hunter sounds pretty good... Would be interesting to see Pole Position as well.
I totally understand. These things aren’t cheap. This is just one of those moments when I was a kid that I had to have at home. I would take a spy hunter with bump n jump. I’m really surprised they didn’t do pole position yet.

I'm with you....I'm having a hard time mentally justifying a series of games, that I truly do love, spending that much money on. If I could get them running smooth through daphne, this isn't worth it to me. I bought several iterations over the years and buying another round just because of the cabinet is just hard to swallow.

One of the games I really liked in the arcade other than Tron and Dragon’s Lair was the original Mario Bros. I was able to play with a friend cooperatively instead of player vs player and if one of us lost our last life the other person could earn a spare for you. Another one that might be interesting to get, though seeing the graphics online were apparently not the best, is Crossbow mostly for the innovative idea. Not sure how they would do the crossbow itself but it would be pretty neat.
Hey, I do remember crossbow. I really liked that game. That was in the dungeons and dragons back then so I thought this was pretty cool. I even like the artwork even though it’s pretty simple. That would be a hard cabinet to pass up if they would do it.
It can just run the attract mode only and I would geek out. Seeing this for the first time in the arcade... yeah mind blown. Then the reality of playing it - was incredibly hard and quarter munching. Loved the Rapids and the Whirlpools though. Ah....

@@EvrydayErik I'd go legends ultimate, plus coin ops x runs good enough on it. Some files are wonky, but overall it's a true space saver. Big Blue is a pain if you intend to go online with it, a lot of rage quiters that have figured out how to dip out without taking the L after you adjust to there cheap patterns.
Where did you get the FLYNNS arcade sign from? Thats beautiful, and I worked on Tron:Legacy, Trons always been a huge part of my life and why I work in the movies now! DL looks great, its on sale this week where I live, I think I'll snag it.
I took a risk and ordered this off eBay from a seller in China. I was surprised, it came beautifully wrapped without damage. The thing hasn’t broken yet, and I’ve had it for almost 2 years. It’s bright as hell. I’ve enjoyed both Tron movies. The original sparked my imagination as a kid as well. Really looking forward to the new one and the ride.

@@EvrydayErik In the arcade, there is no opening scene with the drawbridge. While that scene is on the original laser disc, the creators decided not to use it when implementing the game for the arcade. Later home versions of Dragon's Lair usually DID contain the drawbridge scene. There are also people who "swear" they remember the drawbridge screen from the arcade but there has never been any confirmed proof. All of the rom sets have been gone over pretty thoroughly and none of them play that scene or have move instructions for that scene.
No they haven’t made those yet. I’m a huge Bezerk fan! I think stern and made scramble so I’m not sure that one will come out. I don’t think Stern and Arcade1up have any relationship yet. All three are very fun games!
I'd buy Q*bert in a heartbeat if it had a knocker! I'd love it if they'd include Congo Bongo, another favorite of mine. They both use a diagonal 4-way joystick. Congo Bongo has a fire button and Q*bert does not. Also Congo Bongo is Sega vs Gottilieb, so I know it won't happen, just a wish. Wacko and Mappy both had unique cabs and I'd buy those too.
dragons lair and freedom fighter are two animated arcade games i wish i had unlimited access to. i used to collect a large number of quarters and wasted them all on freedom fighter, but never went anywhere in the game because of the difficulty level. you died instantly and go through quarters like it was nothing. i always wanted to see where the story went, and that’s what compelled me compared to other video games. it was based on some japanese anime. it was different than all the others in arcade places.
I never saw freedom fighter. I just jumped on TH-cam to check out some videos on it. Looks cool. The nice thing about this cabinet is that it will let you die and learn while progressing in the game. It took me about 40 minutes of dying and learning, but I did eventually beat it. I still have the second game and space ace to do. I really do like this cabinet though.
It's probably a premium dollar cabinet primarily because it was a premium tech game forty years ago. The tech today, however, doesn't contribute to its cost. (I had a CD-ROM of it in the 90s with a Pentium processor, for crying out loud.)
Yeah, I’m just a fan of that animation. That’s when I was really into dungeons and dragons. You can beat the game in 15 minutes if you know what you’re doing and this cabinet allows you to keep dying and progressing which allowed me to finally beat it.
Yeah, red Earth had some pretty interesting characters. Good graphics. Maybe in a couple years they’ll make a Capcom cab with all of their good fighters. We need more than 12 games on these things! I sold my street fighter cabinet. I’m holding out for something better.
@@EvrydayErik would have to be like the original cabinet with the periscope type cover at the front and two windows either side. That's how I remember it, but also I think there was open screen versions.
I just traded an original Spy Hunter and Cheyenne (plus some cash) on a Foxbody mustang. They were just too big and bulky..especially compared to my 1Up cabinets. I have high hopes 1up will make a Spy Hunter...not so sure about Cheyenne though. Anyway, I just got my Dragons Lair assembled, and LOVE IT!
Awesome! I’m sure you’re gonna be better than me at it. I do love the unlimited lives, I actually have a chance of learning this game now. Yeah those original cabinets are big and bulky and the maintenance can be tough. I think you made a good decision. Arcade1up has to do a spy hunter you would think. Cheyanne is a classic! I’m not sure who owns the rights to that but that would be a great add-on to another light gun game. Have fun with your new cabinet!
Great looking cabinet. Having recently seen and played the arcade original I can say that the A1Up version looks noticeably better. The CRTs in the original cabs are pretty worn out nowadays. Same goes for Star Wars. I’ve played a couple of different cabs recently and the color vector monitors were both in rough shape making the game almost unplayable. However unlike Star Wars I just can’t justify the expense for the A1Up Dragon’s Lair cab.
Yeah these are expensive, no doubt about it. I know what you mean about the old screens, they get real foggy and it’s hard to see the game. The maintenance on those can be a little rough. I don’t know how long he’s a hold up, but the Arcade1up’s look pretty good. Cheers!
Yeah, they’re basically the same ones from the pinball machine. This cabinet is not a perfect reproduction of the arcade machine. I just reviewed the new wave toys 1/6 scale cabinet, and that one is much more like the real thing, just a lot smaller.
fyi. The draw bridge scene was never in the arcade cab. The creators removed it before the arcade cabs shipped because they thought it was too hard for an opening scene. It only shows up in some home versions/dvd etc. The Gargoyle scene was a another one that was removed but shows up in some home versions and the 25th Anniversarry. So an opening scene of ropes or collapsing wall is indeed arcade authentic.
Hey Erik, I give you a few hints, I beat Dragon’s Lair multiple times, beat in the arcades in 83, on the pool room, the side your sword hanging on, is your first move, on the checkerboard with Knight on it, first move is opposite, of what side your sword hanging on, in your video you almost got to the knight, last move was right, but you have to hit right while your in midair before you land, or you die, good luck. 👍🏻

Are they ever going to make an all-Williams games Arcade 1up that includes Robotron, playable with 2 joysticks?? I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Also love to have a game with a rotating joystick or paddle with compatible games like TNK III, Heavy Barrel etc. Mainly, I just want an arcade machine that actually allows you to PLAY the games, unlike the early Rampage 1up that has an unplayable Defender, and unplayable Gauntlet as well, since the program crashes a few levels in.
I’m a huge Robotron fan. I would have to pick that one up. I’m not sure what else they can put on the cabinet that would be under the same license. I also bought that gen 1 Rampage cabinet you’re talking about, and I took it back because of all those issues. I am enjoying the midway legacy cabinet and a whole lot better. Space is definitely becoming an issue, so anyway, they could pack even more games until one cabinet I would be down for. I haven’t bought any for a while, I’m curious to see what they will be coming out with or announcing in the spring.
No game made me rage quit more than this one as a kid. I loved the graphics and gameplay but it was always a short lived experience for me because of how hard it was. I remember banging my fists against the screen I'd get so mad lol. I could never justify this at $650 but I totally get the FOMO people have for it. The X-Men cab was my must have. I now play DL and Space Ace via CoinOPS Retro Arcade on my PC and enjoy it. I'd loved to see Arcade1Up come out with a Revolution X or Lethal Enforcers cab but it will never happen. Yeah those are two great calls. I’m expecting more light gun games announced soon. I guess I’m gonna have to find some more room around here. I definitely spent more time watching people play this cabinet than I spent actually playing it. It was intimidating and it would just beat my ass. So I am looking forward to digging in here and seeing if I can survive the 15 minute journey. I do appreciate everyone sticking through the video and watching me suck.

man...I keep telling myself I don't want to get another cab (13 so far) but this is too damn close to the arcade...I had an original DL many years ago so this brings back some strong memories. This would look great next to my tron arcade1up.

I think this cabinet looks fantastic. Unfortunately my current home doesn’t have a “man cave” type of space or I would get it 100%. That said, I’m curious what is the “next best” platform to play Dragon’s Lair? PC, Xbox, etc? I see it available on tablets but read the controls are really bad there.
Has anyone been able to get through DL2 yet? I can beat DL1 on one life without issue. But some inputs in DL2 seem to require absurdly precise timing and/or fail constantly even when I'm sure I made the right move at the right time. Level 3 has a few- grabbing the Ace of Spades above the Jabberwock, then using the Sword as the next move seem particularly unforgiving. Level 4 has a bunch. The three sword inputs after grabbing the first golden apple, and then the moves of jumping down, then L/R after grabbing the real apple, and essentially every single input after lightning hits the chain feels like you have to be so exact with the input timing or you fail. Even a fraction of a second too soon or too late and you fail. Level 5 feels normal. Level 6 is a nightmare and I haven't been able to finish it yet because of several absurdly strict input timing windows towards the end. Once you're dangling from the bat, it's sword/sword/up followed by a L/R that I seem to fail 75% of the time regardless of my timing. Then it's sword (which is forgiving), then down, L/R, R/L and these three inputs feel like you have to be frame perfect to succeed. I've played to this point dozens of times and only gotten past these three a few times, only to fail in one of the next inputs which also feel unfair as far as timing goes. I've made it onto the time machine ONCE, which simply requires a few sword inputs, but somehow failed. Several hours later I'm still unable to complete this level. Is it like this for everyone?

We may have had it. Near Davenport Iowa we had a few other similar places with animatronics, but I don’t remember there names. Showbiz was my favorite.
Now that I have it fully set up, does anyone else who has this cabinet notice a sound delay? I notice it in Dragon's Lair, where the sounds are not synchronized perfectly with the video. I don't know how to explain it, but it bugs me. I am wondering if I am just seeing/hearing things or if others have noticed it.
The grain is 100% intentional. I own an original "Space Ace" machine, and it is the same way. I'm very impressed with how they recreated the grainy images. It's more of a part of the look than we realize, and probably would have been easier just to not recreate it.

@Evryday Erik Oops, I see many others have said the same thing. Ha. Well, I think those of us that have originals just want to make sure people know that the graininess is something that 1Up should be praised for, since some have used it to criticize (I know, you didn't).
Well its official. I’m now a arcade been pulled into the Arcade1up addiction. Probably much later than most. Ordered a Dragons Lair, Tron, Joust, and Tempest today. Paid dearly for them from Walmart. For 12 years I’ve established an electromechanical arcade. Currently have 10 games pinball, rifle arcades, submarine, projection missile and driving games. Bought two 4500 game Pandora Boxes and changed all the controls out to Sanwa. Even with the restrictors. Could not get that arcade feel when playing PAC, etc. So I built a 60 in 1 in a Space Invaders and it was spot on from cab I found in the trash. That does not give me the other games I love. What’s killing me at the moment is not being able to buy Star Wars. I really do not want to pay 900.00. Fingers crossed soon they will re-release Star Wars this year and would agree…Spy Hunter would be amazing. Pole Position would also be another driver I would be willing to pay for. Appreciate this review it was extremely helpful for this EM, Golden Age Video Gamer that now has the titles he could only dream of having when I was young. PS: I suck really bad at Dragons Lair but plan on spending some time in the family arcade learning to play.
Well, you definitely bought some good cabinets there. I would suggest holding off on Star Wars. The rumor is they are releasing a new version of that, possibly taller. As far as Dragon’s layer, I love the fact that you can keep playing in dying, but the game will still let you progress. I suck too, but was able to finally made it after a lot of trial and error. Have fun!
The joystick is firmer in the arcade, than the Arcade 1up for movement, plus you have to hit Player 1 twice to get a credit, to simulate putting in 50 cents, you have to do the same, on the New Wave Toys 1/6 scale, love that machine, look exactly like the real arcade machine.
I wish ALL arcade games said INSERT COIN and once you press start, it says credit 1. I HATE seeing free play!! it was not like that for me as a kid. I wanna simulate the entire experience top to bottom
I got mine a couple days ago. So in Space Ace, can someone please explain to me where the scene (after the dogfight scene) where you are in the small saucer shaped ship in a checker patterned hall is? Is it only on a particular difficulty? And what do the different difficulties mean, 3 or 5 episodes, fast or slow? Never seen that before in any version, and I've played them all including the original arcade machine. Thx.
The original arcade Dragon’s Lair, Marquis and control panel, had that texture fuzzy look, so their sticking to originality on this cab.

It was a transparent cloth they glued inside marquee. Thats why there was a grainy look

I owned an original dragons lair arcade machine in the past and it looks like they did a good job with the artwork that is grainy. If I recall that was how it looked on my machine. Can’t wait to build mine. It just came in.
Yeah that’s what I hear, that the grainy artwork is legit. Good luck with your build I hope everything arrived OK. It’s a little turkey putting that second side panel onto all those loose pieces. It doesn’t look/feel like it’ll work, but it works. Cheers!
As others have said, the grainy/blotchy look to the marquee is accurate, and I’m REALLY glad they kept with the original look.

One of the most advanced games in the arcade back there in 84. I remember I lived in California I went to Ron arcade. I played defender missile command, asteroids frog miss Packman every game you could imagine but Dragons lair was hard and it was so advanced it blew our mindhow it could possibly even work

I would love to see them do a Zaxxon, Qbert and dedicated Missile Command and Crystal Castles...

Good video, I subscribed. Being a DL fanatic for over 30 years I must say 1up did a damn good job on this cab despite some minor issues. So glad they went the original rom that matches the original cab. I just need to install my light kit for the coin doors. Black caps for the screw holes really helped as well.
I need to get some caps and lighting the coin door is gonna look cool! Some people have brought up that it seems they’ve left out the first drawbridge scene. Thoughts?
Good choices with Dragon’s Lair and TRON. I like cabinet remakes that use proprietary controls or displays. Star Wars is another example or anything with a spinner or trackball. Spy Hunter would be great addition.
Oh ya! Dragons lair, Tron and the Star Wars cabinet are some of A1up’s best. My 10-year-old self would never believe I would actually own something like these someday. Cheers!
Great review Erik. I especially appreciate seeing the panels before assembly. It's a beautiful looking cabinet and, as a child of the 80s, I've always had a soft spot for Dragon's Lair, although I've never actually enjoyed playing them (I suck big time!). Hope you get your speaker panel sorted, although I bet you can hardly notice it now that it's assembled and in your arcade. Nice that you have both this and Tron! :-)
Yeah with the lights off don’t see any of the scratches on the back panel. So it’s actually not a big deal. I still can’t decide whether there’s a layer of protective plastic on it and that’s what I’m seeing. But I’ve been working one of the corners and I can’t get any film to come off. I’ll probably reach out to them with the question. The unlimited lives feature on this is so awesome. As you can see I suck too. Now I can just continue to die and slowly learn what I need to do. No quarters needed.
@@EvrydayErik that's true about the unlimited lives, and is something that is tempting me to buy the cabinet. Glad that speaker panel is ok. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle of raising a ticket, especially if it's not noticable in the dark. Love that high score screen, another reason why I'm tempted to buy it myself!
Loved the honest review. I have to wait till mid September for my Cab as I live down under in Oz. I sucked at playing back in the day too and was mostly a watcher on the cab. I would love to see a Daytona or Sega Rally cab or even Wonder Boy or Pengo.

I woiuld like to see a Tapper/Timber cabinet, but only if they can get the Budweiser license. Robotron/Smash TV/Total Carnage cab as well. Q*bert would be great, but, with the unique control configuration, it would be tough to pair it with another game.

Yeah that RoboCop game is fun. I do remember playing that in the arcade. I think it’s on my Pandora’s box. Time crisis is going to be very tempting. I’m going to have to pick up a light gun game at some point. Cheers!

Great review Erik, it was very precise. The value of any Arcade 1up it will depend how important the theme is for you. This cab, just like Tron that you enjoy so much (and had high expectations), it's worth the value in my opinion. I paid much more for OutRun and i'm not regretted, I still play almost every day, i love it. This cab in particular is for truly fans of this trilogy and its great, very good emulated, no sound issues and it is beautiful. You will enjoy for sure.👍
I would like very much if they produce an Arcade 1Up with the theme 1942. With all the 6 titles: 1941, 1942, 1943, 1943 Kay, 1944 and 19XX. It wouldn't be very difficult to do since none of these Capcom's games would have problems with any kind of licenses. Spy Hunter... another great title to consider.

Yeah I loved Robotron and Berzerk! They look similar but they’re very different games. Those are two of my favorites for sure and I would have to pull the trigger on those. It would be interesting what they would bundle them with.
Does look incredible and I loved Dragons Lair back when I was a teenager! But not sure I’d play it often enough to justify buying it. I’d love to have the Arcade 1Up Star Wars cabinet but for some reason it’s not for sale in the UK.

AU1 has now made 3 of my top 6 must haves and made them well (Star Wars, Tron and Dragon's Lair). My other three must haves are Spy Hunter and Afterburner and Vindicators. I doubt they would make Vindicators unless a lot of people petitioned for it, but I have to believe that Spy Hunter and Afterburner are on the horizon.
And all 3 of those are really well made by arcade 1up

Cool review! I don’t have any 1up boxes. I have a couple of full size multicades, and a commercial version of Big Buck Hunter ( that I waaaaay overspent on. Ha ha!) I also collect the Replicade Mini Arcade boxes. 1/6th scale that fit with Hot Toys 12 inch figures. Fully functional and pretty amazing.
Well, you’re doing it’s smart. You have one of those full-size multicades, which probably has dragons lair! Also those mini arcades are awesome. You’re gonna have a whole lot more space than I am. Sounds like a legit arcade to me!

Dude do you have a tour of your game room? It looks really bad ass. That straight up looks like an old school arcade. Dragons lair is one cabinet I don't own. Just never played the game as a kid. Probably because it came out the year I was born haha. But I'm sure people were blown away by it back in 83. I have a video up of my room if you're interested. I like hearing feedback from the community.
Cool, I’ll go check it out! Basically, you can see all the cabinets I have, but I do have my attack from Mars pinball off to the side. I don’t have any room left so we’ll see what happens when they come out with the next thing I have to have.

Those sound like fun parties! Tell everyone not to get frustrated with dragons lair. The game will let you keep playing so you will eventually get to the dragon and can beat the game. Even if you keep dying and you feel like you’re not making progress, you will be. Everyone’s gonna love this cabinet!
I think the Micro SD card slot is used for extra memory and that extra USB port maybe use for a sun drive so you can use it for extra memory on that as well
Could be, I haven’t done any modifications or tried anything like that with this cabinet. No regrets, it’s a great looking and great playing cabinet.
One of the best versions of dragons lair,is on the Phillips compact disc interactive player,as well as time warp and space ace.
I’ll admit I never checked out that version. It’s laser disk, it’s got to be the best. I reviewed the mini version. From new wave toys, that was pretty good too.

I would love to see them do an Atari Battlezone cabinet, but they would probably have to do it without the viewfinder. It's too bad that Sea Wolf was a Midway game, because it would be a great paring if the view finder was added.
Yeah, that Battlezone game was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I loved all those vector graphic games. Star Wars is one of our favorite cabinets still.
My local arcade has this game, though I am not a fan of it personally, I think fans of the game will love this. This cab looks really nice. Well done arcade 1up.

Beating the knight level in Dragon's Lair when I was like 9 years old at my local pizza shop I felt like I'd scored a touchdown in the NFL. Was the original co-op where your friend asked you to step in and you'd better beat the level
Lol, I can appreciate that. I was terrible at this, but loved watching other people. I did end up beating the dragon. Thankfully the machine let you keep dying by progressing.

I know this is old but my question to you is will you be keeping you iiRcade or will you try to reskin or something? I have the DL iiRcade and being a DL fan want this one not that its on sale but don't really want 2 dragons lairs in my arcade.
I was a Showbiz Pizza kid too. I really wanted to buy this cabinet, mostly for display, but because I’ve had so many problems with my Tron arcade machine I’m waiting for the price to plummet.
Speaking of Tron you really need to work on your scores! As far as another cabinet I want I think the only ones I’m holding out for might be a Daytona USA and a Sega Star Wars trilogy from the 90s.
Yeah I have not put the time into Tron to figure out the third tank battle. I’m kind of stuck on that one. I was hoping my score is so terrible no one would even go and find it. My discs of Tron score held for a while, I’m gonna have to go back in there and do some work. Yeah I went to a showbiz in Davenport Iowa of all places. But it was awesome! You’re not gonna get a better display cabinet than this one. Just turn it on and let the introduction movie repeat itself every 10 seconds. Good luck with your Tron cabinet, when these don’t work right it’s incredibly frustrating.
@@EvrydayErik on the 3rd tanks, immediately go up and turn left at the first path then down at the next path then left between the 2 dots. (this should put you at the same height as the transporter). stay between these dots the whole time. immediately shoot the tank that is just above you and to the left, then shoot the tank at the top of the screen, then the 2 that will be just below you, and finally take care of the last 2 as the come towards you.

I totally understand. These things aren’t cheap. This is just one of those moments when I was a kid that I had to have at home. I would take a spy hunter with bump n jump. I’m really surprised they didn’t do pole position yet.

I'm with you....I'm having a hard time mentally justifying a series of games, that I truly do love, spending that much money on. If I could get them running smooth through daphne, this isn't worth it to me. I bought several iterations over the years and buying another round just because of the cabinet is just hard to swallow.

One of the games I really liked in the arcade other than Tron and Dragon’s Lair was the original Mario Bros. I was able to play with a friend cooperatively instead of player vs player and if one of us lost our last life the other person could earn a spare for you. Another one that might be interesting to get, though seeing the graphics online were apparently not the best, is Crossbow mostly for the innovative idea. Not sure how they would do the crossbow itself but it would be pretty neat.
Yeah they need to make an all-shooter Arcade 1up machine that includes Crossbow and other shooting games.
Hey, I do remember crossbow. I really liked that game. That was in the dungeons and dragons back then so I thought this was pretty cool. I even like the artwork even though it’s pretty simple. That would be a hard cabinet to pass up if they would do it.

It can just run the attract mode only and I would geek out. Seeing this for the first time in the arcade... yeah mind blown. Then the reality of playing it - was incredibly hard and quarter munching. Loved the Rapids and the Whirlpools though. Ah....

@@EvrydayErik I'd go legends ultimate, plus coin ops x runs good enough on it. Some files are wonky, but overall it's a true space saver. Big Blue is a pain if you intend to go online with it, a lot of rage quiters that have figured out how to dip out without taking the L after you adjust to there cheap patterns.
Where did you get the FLYNNS arcade sign from? Thats beautiful, and I worked on Tron:Legacy, Trons always been a huge part of my life and why I work in the movies now! DL looks great, its on sale this week where I live, I think I'll snag it.
I took a risk and ordered this off eBay from a seller in China. I was surprised, it came beautifully wrapped without damage. The thing hasn’t broken yet, and I’ve had it for almost 2 years. It’s bright as hell. I’ve enjoyed both Tron movies. The original sparked my imagination as a kid as well. Really looking forward to the new one and the ride.

The original arcade cabinet also has the narrator in one speaker and the music and other sounds in the other speaker.

@@EvrydayErik In the arcade, there is no opening scene with the drawbridge. While that scene is on the original laser disc, the creators decided not to use it when implementing the game for the arcade. Later home versions of Dragon's Lair usually DID contain the drawbridge scene. There are also people who "swear" they remember the drawbridge screen from the arcade but there has never been any confirmed proof. All of the rom sets have been gone over pretty thoroughly and none of them play that scene or have move instructions for that scene.
I liked Berzerk, Scramble and Red Alert. Don't know if they made those cabinets yet.
No they haven’t made those yet. I’m a huge Bezerk fan! I think stern and made scramble so I’m not sure that one will come out. I don’t think Stern and Arcade1up have any relationship yet. All three are very fun games!

I'd buy Q*bert in a heartbeat if it had a knocker! I'd love it if they'd include Congo Bongo, another favorite of mine. They both use a diagonal 4-way joystick. Congo Bongo has a fire button and Q*bert does not. Also Congo Bongo is Sega vs Gottilieb, so I know it won't happen, just a wish. Wacko and Mappy both had unique cabs and I'd buy those too.

dragons lair and freedom fighter are two animated arcade games i wish i had unlimited access to. i used to collect a large number of quarters and wasted them all on freedom fighter, but never went anywhere in the game because of the difficulty level. you died instantly and go through quarters like it was nothing. i always wanted to see where the story went, and that’s what compelled me compared to other video games. it was based on some japanese anime. it was different than all the others in arcade places.
I never saw freedom fighter. I just jumped on TH-cam to check out some videos on it. Looks cool. The nice thing about this cabinet is that it will let you die and learn while progressing in the game. It took me about 40 minutes of dying and learning, but I did eventually beat it. I still have the second game and space ace to do. I really do like this cabinet though.
It's probably a premium dollar cabinet primarily because it was a premium tech game forty years ago. The tech today, however, doesn't contribute to its cost. (I had a CD-ROM of it in the 90s with a Pentium processor, for crying out loud.)
I was never into this game but the cabinet came out great.
Yeah, I’m just a fan of that animation. That’s when I was really into dungeons and dragons. You can beat the game in 15 minutes if you know what you’re doing and this cabinet allows you to keep dying and progressing which allowed me to finally beat it.
I’d LOVE to see a Street Fighter III cabinet with all 3 versions of that game plus Red Earth.
Yeah, red Earth had some pretty interesting characters. Good graphics. Maybe in a couple years they’ll make a Capcom cab with all of their good fighters. We need more than 12 games on these things! I sold my street fighter cabinet. I’m holding out for something better.

I just traded an original Spy Hunter and Cheyenne (plus some cash) on a Foxbody mustang. They were just too big and bulky..especially compared to my 1Up cabinets. I have high hopes 1up will make a Spy Hunter...not so sure about Cheyenne though. Anyway, I just got my Dragons Lair assembled, and LOVE IT!
Awesome! I’m sure you’re gonna be better than me at it. I do love the unlimited lives, I actually have a chance of learning this game now. Yeah those original cabinets are big and bulky and the maintenance can be tough. I think you made a good decision. Arcade1up has to do a spy hunter you would think. Cheyanne is a classic! I’m not sure who owns the rights to that but that would be a great add-on to another light gun game. Have fun with your new cabinet!

Great looking cabinet. Having recently seen and played the arcade original I can say that the A1Up version looks noticeably better. The CRTs in the original cabs are pretty worn out nowadays. Same goes for Star Wars. I’ve played a couple of different cabs recently and the color vector monitors were both in rough shape making the game almost unplayable. However unlike Star Wars I just can’t justify the expense for the A1Up Dragon’s Lair cab.
Yeah these are expensive, no doubt about it. I know what you mean about the old screens, they get real foggy and it’s hard to see the game. The maintenance on those can be a little rough. I don’t know how long he’s a hold up, but the Arcade1up’s look pretty good. Cheers!

Yeah, they’re basically the same ones from the pinball machine. This cabinet is not a perfect reproduction of the arcade machine. I just reviewed the new wave toys 1/6 scale cabinet, and that one is much more like the real thing, just a lot smaller.
fyi. The draw bridge scene was never in the arcade cab. The creators removed it before the arcade cabs shipped because they thought it was too hard for an opening scene. It only shows up in some home versions/dvd etc. The Gargoyle scene was a another one that was removed but shows up in some home versions and the 25th Anniversarry. So an opening scene of ropes or collapsing wall is indeed arcade authentic.

Hey Erik, I give you a few hints, I beat Dragon’s Lair multiple times, beat in the arcades in 83, on the pool room, the side your sword hanging on, is your first move, on the checkerboard with Knight on it, first move is opposite, of what side your sword hanging on, in your video you almost got to the knight, last move was right, but you have to hit right while your in midair before you land, or you die, good luck. 👍🏻

Are they ever going to make an all-Williams games Arcade 1up that includes Robotron, playable with 2 joysticks?? I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Also love to have a game with a rotating joystick or paddle with compatible games like TNK III, Heavy Barrel etc. Mainly, I just want an arcade machine that actually allows you to PLAY the games, unlike the early Rampage 1up that has an unplayable Defender, and unplayable Gauntlet as well, since the program crashes a few levels in.
I’m a huge Robotron fan. I would have to pick that one up. I’m not sure what else they can put on the cabinet that would be under the same license. I also bought that gen 1 Rampage cabinet you’re talking about, and I took it back because of all those issues. I am enjoying the midway legacy cabinet and a whole lot better. Space is definitely becoming an issue, so anyway, they could pack even more games until one cabinet I would be down for. I haven’t bought any for a while, I’m curious to see what they will be coming out with or announcing in the spring.
No game made me rage quit more than this one as a kid. I loved the graphics and gameplay but it was always a short lived experience for me because of how hard it was. I remember banging my fists against the screen I'd get so mad lol. I could never justify this at $650 but I totally get the FOMO people have for it. The X-Men cab was my must have. I now play DL and Space Ace via CoinOPS Retro Arcade on my PC and enjoy it. I'd loved to see Arcade1Up come out with a Revolution X or Lethal Enforcers cab but it will never happen. Yeah those are two great calls. I’m expecting more light gun games announced soon. I guess I’m gonna have to find some more room around here. I definitely spent more time watching people play this cabinet than I spent actually playing it. It was intimidating and it would just beat my ass. So I am looking forward to digging in here and seeing if I can survive the 15 minute journey. I do appreciate everyone sticking through the video and watching me suck.

That panel looks like it has a protective film on it. Pretty sure you can just peel that off.

I think this cabinet looks fantastic. Unfortunately my current home doesn’t have a “man cave” type of space or I would get it 100%. That said, I’m curious what is the “next best” platform to play Dragon’s Lair? PC, Xbox, etc? I see it available on tablets but read the controls are really bad there.
My friend who can actually beat this game plays on a home arcade that is basically running the PC version. He says it plays fine.

Has anyone been able to get through DL2 yet?
I can beat DL1 on one life without issue. But some inputs in DL2 seem to require absurdly precise timing and/or fail constantly even when I'm sure I made the right move at the right time.
Level 3 has a few- grabbing the Ace of Spades above the Jabberwock, then using the Sword as the next move seem particularly unforgiving.
Level 4 has a bunch. The three sword inputs after grabbing the first golden apple, and then the moves of jumping down, then L/R after grabbing the real apple, and essentially every single input after lightning hits the chain feels like you have to be so exact with the input timing or you fail. Even a fraction of a second too soon or too late and you fail.
Level 5 feels normal.
Level 6 is a nightmare and I haven't been able to finish it yet because of several absurdly strict input timing windows towards the end. Once you're dangling from the bat, it's sword/sword/up followed by a L/R that I seem to fail 75% of the time regardless of my timing. Then it's sword (which is forgiving), then down, L/R, R/L and these three inputs feel like you have to be frame perfect to succeed. I've played to this point dozens of times and only gotten past these three a few times, only to fail in one of the next inputs which also feel unfair as far as timing goes. I've made it onto the time machine ONCE, which simply requires a few sword inputs, but somehow failed. Several hours later I'm still unable to complete this level.
Is it like this for everyone?

Now that I have it fully set up, does anyone else who has this cabinet notice a sound delay? I notice it in Dragon's Lair, where the sounds are not synchronized perfectly with the video. I don't know how to explain it, but it bugs me. I am wondering if I am just seeing/hearing things or if others have noticed it.

The grain is 100% intentional. I own an original "Space Ace" machine, and it is the same way. I'm very impressed with how they recreated the grainy images. It's more of a part of the look than we realize, and probably would have been easier just to not recreate it.

Well its official. I’m now a arcade been pulled into the Arcade1up addiction. Probably much later than most.
Ordered a Dragons Lair, Tron, Joust, and Tempest today. Paid dearly for them from Walmart.
For 12 years I’ve established an electromechanical arcade. Currently have 10 games pinball, rifle arcades, submarine, projection missile and driving games.
Bought two 4500 game Pandora Boxes and changed all the controls out to Sanwa. Even with the restrictors. Could not get that arcade feel when playing PAC, etc.
So I built a 60 in 1 in a Space Invaders and it was spot on from cab I found in the trash. That does not give me the other games I love.
What’s killing me at the moment is not being able to buy Star Wars. I really do not want to pay 900.00.
Fingers crossed soon they will re-release Star Wars this year and would agree…Spy Hunter would be amazing. Pole Position would also be another driver I would be willing to pay for.

Well, you definitely bought some good cabinets there. I would suggest holding off on Star Wars. The rumor is they are releasing a new version of that, possibly taller. As far as Dragon’s layer, I love the fact that you can keep playing in dying, but the game will still let you progress. I suck too, but was able to finally made it after a lot of trial and error. Have fun!
The joystick is firmer in the arcade, than the Arcade 1up for movement, plus you have to hit Player 1 twice to get a credit, to simulate putting in 50 cents, you have to do the same, on the New Wave Toys 1/6 scale, love that machine, look exactly like the real arcade machine.
Oh that makes sense, duh. 🤦♂️ yeah this one might be Arcade1up‘s best reproduction. They really stepped up.
I wish ALL arcade games said INSERT COIN and once you press start, it says credit 1. I HATE seeing free play!! it was not like that for me as a kid. I wanna simulate the entire experience top to bottom
I got mine a couple days ago. So in Space Ace, can someone please explain to me where the scene (after the dogfight scene) where you are in the small saucer shaped ship in a checker patterned hall is? Is it only on a particular difficulty? And what do the different difficulties mean, 3 or 5 episodes, fast or slow? Never seen that before in any version, and I've played them all including the original arcade machine. Thx.
