    This is 2021. 720p resolution is totally unacceptable! The cabinet build itself and the artwork looks pretty good, I'll give it that. But it needs the guts ripping out and upgrading to a VPX system. And $600 is too expensive to do that. Might as well build your own. Which I did for less than £1000 for a 4K playfield and many toys including beacons, RGB flashers, strobes, fan, LED feedback, SSF. This thing is a joke for $600. I was never a pinball fan, either arcade or video. But with a decent PC and VPX I'm hooked. It really is pretty damn good and blows that thing out of the water.

    • @Darwinion
      @Darwinion 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EvrydayErik Just download VPX (it's all free). Latest version is 10.6 but people are now using 10.7 beta as it's close to being released and very stable. Then search TH-cam for installation advice. The BallerInstaller has just been released so for new people that's makes it a hella lot easier as it does everything in one go. I would advise just installing on desktop for a while first and get used to how it all works... adding tables etc. and learning where all the files go. Then when comfortable progess to putting a dedicated PC in a cabinet. This time last year I knew nothing about VPX. Started building my cabinet in July and had it done in August. I will warn you there is a LOT to learn. It is not plug and play like that thing you have. But it's not difficult and the results are far, far better.

    Unless you got a dud people on here complaining about this machine need to sack up. I’m 49 and had a couple plastic pinball games growing up that would make you cry or laugh (probably both) if you saw them. I don’t even play pinball anymore and this machine has me hooked. I bought it for my brother as a birthday/Xmas gift and he didn’t want it, so I kept it. The only complaint I have is the one table that doesn’t work right. The top and graphics are fine and the flippers seem a little “off” but it’s not a huge deal. Like somebody said it’s not regular pinball it’s digital pinball. It’s challenging and it’s been fun so far. No, it’s probably not worth $750 when you think about the computing power in a phone or game console now. But considering space and cost I would rather have this than a regular pinball in my house.

    These vpins are relatively new and Im sure they’ll keep improving. Theres nothing like the real thing but for most people owning a real pin is just not practical- its expensive and if it breaks you better know how to fix it, if you can even find the parts. Plus you aren’t limited to just one game. I got the ALP and it is far from perfect but for the price I paid Im happy with it. This one has better games but its a little smaller than the atgames pinball. Again its not the real deal but its like 88% almost which is close enough for me

      Yeah, attack from Mars and medieval madness. Are some of my favorite pinball games. Period I just wish there was better resolution here. And the G sensor went bad on mine and I still have to replace it. Really interested in what Atgames is doing. Their new 4K pinball might be worth getting.

    • @x-vector7245
      @x-vector7245 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Over the last year I've been lucky enough to be able to play around 40 real tables every few months.
      This has taught me that digital pinball is definitely not the same as the real deal, but also that it has come a long way and has improved substantially over the years.
      The latest Visual Pinball recreations by the VPinball Workshop collective for example are seriously impressive (for proof, check out its rendition of Bad Cats or G5K's Attack from Mars).
      So I guess the ideal solution would be to build your own digital pinball cabinet (if you can) or buy one of the pre-built full-size versions. The problem with the latter is that these can be (almost) as expensive as the real ones, the prices of which have unfortunately skyrocketed over the past three years or so (Covid-19 related I guess).
      The original AfM now goes for $9,000 to $12,000 and the remakes by Chicago Gaming Company are offered for similar prices.
      MM original is around $14,000 and the remakes from $11,000 all the way to $20K for the Royal Edition.
      There's currently an ad on Pinside asking for $24,500 for an RE with some lighting and toy upgrades.

      The patch fixed the games I wasn’t really playing anyway. My G sensor went bad. They sent me a new one. That’s what controls the nudge. I was getting false nudges during gameplay and had to just turn it off. I don’t have buyers remorse, because I really love attack from Mars and medieval madness. I think it could use a couple upgrades in a next version. So I would probably just hold off.

    I think you were right on mark with the review. I’m hoping changing out the plexiglass for real glass changes some of the clarity issue. And a patch from A1up for some of the playability.
    There is a free and easy mod to improve the solenoid haptics 👍
    The A1up does grow on you after playing more.
    Also, the Arcade 1up machine should have little to no maintenance, a real Pinball machine has considerable amount of maintenance to keep it going.
    And the cost vs a real machine is excellent ! Just wish it was a little better

    All good points made and nothing like the real thing but this virtual table is a good intro into the hobby and a way to get some feel for different pinball tables affordably. To have the real thing at home would run you about $50,000 to have all these tables.

    You mentioned seeing a linear visual artifact, which you feel may be associated with the play field plex. There is a small number of people who can actually see polarization in LCD panels. Even if you replace the plex with glass, you're still going to see the polarization artifact. It's more noticeable at the shallow angles we view a Vpin from, whilst playing. Even though I'm legally blind, I've noticed I can sometimes make out the polarization in car windows, under certain conditions. I've even noticed the effect on a $900 flat panel, which nobody else could see, but one other person I know. I thought it was a flaw, but a manufacturing rep suggested I talk to an eye doctor, who did confirm that it was me, and not the screen. Regarding the nudge, you don't need to rock the table. You only need to thump the side of the table, to get the desired movement on the ball Rocking the table, forcibly, will input forces the accelerometer can't process, as they go beyond their rated detection values. I agree, the backbox marquee should've been square, like on your physical Attack from Mars table. I don't have this one, yet, but do have Marvel, and Star Wars pinball tables. I can't see the tiny, little DMD, and had to build a custom magnification rig. Thanks for sharing this.

    • @EvrydayErik
      @EvrydayErik  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some other people have agreed with me and we do think it’s the actual plexiglass causing these lines. You only see it in certain situations and if you’re looking for it. I think glass would look better, but it would be heavier and this box was heavy enough for me. I don’t mind the back screen, it is a little washed but I’m good with it. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video!

    • @ThomasGrillo
      @ThomasGrillo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EvrydayErik Well, I did make holograms, professionally, back in the 80s, and 90s, and noticed if I used glass plates that were too thin, or if the reference beam entered the plate at a very shallow angle, those lines were also recorded. I don't know if the side rails will allow for a thicker pane of glass. You might have to drill new holes, slightly higher up, to accommodate a thicker pane. I have seen that effect on a thin piece of plex, as well. Hope you get that artifact sorted.

      All the game rooms in the malls near me closed for whatever reason. They reopened a game room recently at one of the malls but not one pinball machine. They are expensive to own and operate. The real pinball machines require constant maintenance (solenoids, bumpers, flipper actuators, lights). I’m sure the video version of it will be tons less maintenance but i don’t expect it to last more than 5 years. From what I’ve learned with electronics, they never last. My dad had a tube TV for decades. The electronic TVs that I buy don’t last more than 5 or 6 years and we’re talking descent brands (LG, Samsung). You're expecting too much for 600.00. real pinball machines are 3,000.00 to 6,000.00 (or higher in some cases) you can't expect 3,000.00 results for 600.00. also an easy fix on the feedback flipper feel is to simply unscrew them and relocate them to the underside of top black section that your hands rest on (original wiring is long enough to reach). I love this machine. People who are this picky should really just be buying a real pinball machine. 600.00 is not alot of money in today's economy. I bought a riding lawn mower for 2,500.00 and it was a piece of shit (john deere brand) then I finally got one for 3,900.00 and it works great. Things are expensive now a days, you get what you pay for. If you want the real deal or experience you have to pay for it. Don't buy a Honda if you want Mustang performance.

    I used to own a real pinball machine (NBA Fastbreak) and of course its impossible to compare with a digital machine. BUT...real pinball VINTAGE machines - the ones with 20+ years - are hard to maintain. The playfield is filled with little dents and marks that affects the game, theres always broken or loose cosmetic pieces that are almost impossible to find (or really expensive), and you need a good technician to go to your place every 6 months to make a check up. Theres the termites (big problem on any old wood cabinet) and the last HUGE problem: need to move the machine to a new place? Better call 4 friends! These old machines weights almost 400lbs and WILL BREAK! So i really dig these digital ones, but lets wait for the second generation. 1080p is a must!

      Not to mention the cost. It's interesting that I see old video games for as little as $300, but it's tough to find anything under 2k for even vintage machines. And for something that is actually considered somewhat desirable, you can easily double that figure as an entry level price. If you're just looking for a little fun in your basement or garage, these things are worth a look. Hell, the last vacation we took to Gattlinburg for 5 days cost us $3500, I would have had way more fun with one of these tables for 800 bucks.

I totally understand where your complaints are coming from, having been born in 1967, I've lived through probably the best age of Arcades and really miss them. It was awesome going into the dimly lite room full of brightly lit video and pinball machines and get lost for hours and hours. Arcades like Drive-Inns, and Roller Rinks are never truly going to replaced with their digital counter parts, even if V.R. really improves unless some sort of Matrix like connection can be made. Just played 4 different retro pinball machines and while it does have some glitches here and there, it's very responsive and has features like changing orientation (i.e. portrait or landscape), blank high scores, a global high score so you can see how other people are doing, simulation and arcade modes, a lot of configuration settings for looks, ray tracing, glass quality, etc. The tables themselves look very well desided, authentic and with perspective on they have a lot of visual depth. I heard that you can run Zaccria Pinball on the 1up, but don't remember the content creator who set theirs up to work with it. Just something to let you know about. I bought the Star Wars model when these first released and really enjoyed it....then I started opening my eyes to what vpin could be and how far these machines are from that. I sold the Star Wars model when the price jump hit, so I made all of my money back that I had spent and reinvested that into the AtGames Legends. I found an old Dell Optiplex and threw an Nvidia 1650 in it and was on my way with OTG mode. It was a world of difference mainly with the larger playfield (32" vs 24", but also having a full video board for the backglass as well as a higher resolution. Count in the ability to push the graphics to the max for FX3 and I was very happy. Then I discovered VPX and PInupPopper and haven't looked back. Well thanks for the review. I have a few problems thought. I really feel like you came in to this machine with a false expectation. What I mean by that is You cant expect a $500 machine to be anywhere near the $15000 counterpart. Thats kinda like expecting your plastic model car to have the same features of its real life car. Second its 80million not 80thousand. lol. As far as high scores go there are always scores present. Very rarely do you see a bunch of blank scores just so you can put yours up. That just doesnt happen. Third the solenoids are not for sound they are for feel. So wanting them to turn up the volume on them is also a really bad expectation. Like it or not this is a video game. It is in no way a real pinball. Now yes it has similarities but again you cant expect it to be identical. It just felt like once you cracked open the box your feeling was negative. Like when you said the table Junk Yard just looks like a bunch of junk on the screen. Im pretty sure thats intentional. Also like the real machines you have to figure out what to do on each table. THats part of learning the tables. I think you have been listening to way to many youtubers with negative feelings about this table and other example. You showed the White Water and said "trust me" its there. Lol I didnt see it. So if you didnt really see it at least in the vid you showed us then how is your opinion being formed? Lastly what really was funny is that you went to a real arcade and played the real machine then based much of your opinion off that. Thats like me test driving a BMW and then buying the remote control car version and complaining that it doesn't have the same features and driving capabilities. I think if you take this cab for what it is which is a video game representation of a real pinball. Then you would like it a lot more. Its cool though its your opinion but I just think you came at it wrong and not with an open mind.

      For 600 bucks I expected a little more horsepower under the hood to run the game at it’s full resolution. I don’t have much of a problem with anything else. It’s just that the games look messy and one dimensional. I hear they look fantastic on other platforms so this is very disappointing.

    Arcade 1up needs to make some upgrades to this version. I'd start with a clear 1080 playfield instead of 720. Upgrade to 32" instead of 24" display. Replace Roadshow with Funhouse and add Monster Bash.

      Other people have beat me and made videos. I finally downloaded the update yesterday and it does do everything it says. White water is finally playable. I also like how you can adjust the accelerometer. The graphics are still the same resolution, but I think it did fix some frame rate issues on a couple games. The worst part of downloading the patch is that it erased all of my high scores. I don’t think I’m ever going to get To mars again in attack from Mars, so that sucks.

    Some thoughts...
    How is it that the resolution 720 and not 1080 or 4K in year 2021? I think higher resolution would make a big improvement.
    As I understand it, there’s no ability to add more tables. But it’s all software, so I guess users are prevented for adding more tables due to licensing/legalities. If that’s the case, too bad. I’d be willing to pay for more tables if they were available for download.
    Anyway, it’s still a neat concept and would be interested in trying it out. Will be interesting to see how Arcade1Up evolves them.

      I don't own one yet, but have been kicking the idea around, and I agree, they missed a lot of opportunities here. Real glass, wifi updates, 1080p, better solenoids- I'd pay 2 or 3 hundred more dollars for that. Downloadable games for purchase, , online leader boards, head to head remote play etc- those upsells could have justified charging a bit more and guaranteeing Arcade1Up a little money on the backend. From a business perspective, this sounds like the marketing and sales teams could have made this more exciting and profited more in the process.

I love the arcade, I've ran arcades, I grew up in arcades, but I'd never want real arcade machines in my house unless I had unlimited money and space. That's why I've enjoyed the Arcade1Up stuff, even though they company has a lot of faults, their products still scratch the right itch. Seems like the pinball machines were an interesting experiment for them, but I'm not sure if they'll continue with it. Seems like they can hardly keep up with what they've got going on now.

      @@EvrydayErik you are right about the lines. My review on this is from a casual pinball person mindset. If you are like me you will probably love it. I think comparing real tables is a big mistake for the real pinball fan base. That is why it seems the worst reviews I have noticed is always for the Attack From Mars table. These are not pinball. Its like comparing real warfare to paintball. While visually it reminds you of it and reaching that goal of victory can still be exhilarating...it is still not the same. For someone like me it is perfect. Take racing games for example...we all loved them growing up the past few decades. It is nothing like real racing or driving in general. We do prefer better simulations but we can still bust out something like out run and enjoy it. Because we were exposed to the game first generally speaking. So we are not always turning around saying...this is not like real racing.

    I think your issue is the screen. At 720p you can't really get the depth that you could on a 4k screen. I own 60+ tables from fx3 and at 1080p there is much more depth. Turning off the animations, in my opinion, is the absolute wrong thing to do. Its what Zen studios is known for. Its like taking half of your game away. Couple that with a 720p screen experience and you might as well be playing pong, in my opinion. I still can't understand why they couldn't have used 1080p. Other manufacturers were able to do that for the same price point. So again, in my opinion, arcade1up was just pure lazy on this one. Sadly I'm still waiting on my marvel table that ordered like 2 months ago. So coming from playing fx3 in 1080p, I know I'm going to be a little disappointed in the graphics but I'm hoping the experience will be there.

    For virtual pinball you really need a 4k screen.......I built my own and with 4k, real leaf-switches for flippers, and a playfield monitor that has very low screen refresh rates, there is no flipper lag. Is it like a real pinball? No but I cannot afford a 15k AFM. This is the next best thing. With Visual Pinball X installed, there are hundreds of tables emulated. This arcade 1up thing probably doesn't have the computer resources or graphics to run VPX in 4k.

      I watched a lot of videos and read a lot on the various virtual pinball forums. There's some really detailed instructions. For the first few months, I just used 2 computer screens, to get the software part in order. Eventually I found a local guy who has a CNC machine and he built the cabinet for me. (I'm not too good at building stuff). I started with a 1080P playfield monitor but eventually got a good deal on an Acer 32" 4K monitor and the difference in look and feel was immediate. Everything popped, you can read the apron cards, the resolution is incredibly good and the the version of AFM that I have installed is very good.......still not like a real pin but acceptably good. I would maybe see if you can mod your arcade1up cabinet.......I think I've seen some videos of people doing this so they can install VPX and have a better screen. Good luck........
