Top video matey I'm currently restoring a 1984 90 your videos have bin a big help as I am no mechanic but I'm a plater welder by trade so a tip for big gaps do a multi run e.g turn the power down and lay a root run grind back and then turn the power up and wack it in 👍 will help with your under cutting hope this helps keep up the good work
Yes that will do matey if there is a big gap and your welding with stick always best to do a root run it will also help to stop porosity in the weld ( little holes ) because you don't have to build the weld as much so less chance of slag getting trapped in the weld it is this slag that will give you porosity and potentially a leak 🙂 like a say matey you have help me out quite a bit with your videos I watch them all 😂 so I'm just trying to return the favour keep up the good work 👍👍
We used to have resort to putting steel rods into gaps to get out of trouble at a push when things didn't fit and the operator wanted his trailers back quickly. .
I live in "steel city" (sheffield ) matey but can always do a road trip at some point when I get the 90 up to scratch think it would be a good test run for the old girl when I say " up to scratch" I mean trust her not to fall to bits 😂 ... yes mate that's one way to do it ..when someone is giving you ear ache because they needed it yesterday 😂saves doing 20 multi runs as well 😂
I've been looking at them Gwen Lewis diff covers for a while and wondered if they are worth all the effort. Another option is sewer pipe end caps to replace the rover tin cover.
Land Rover Toolbox Videos The Glyn Lewis one does look the goods. 8" industrial pipe caps is what im referring to, they are around 3/8 thick. They do involve a lot more work than the one in the video though. I'll send you a few pics on fb messenger mate.
yes it is possible but after welding it today the metal took the heat away very quickly. Trick is to weld opposites to keep the pull to a minimum. Doubt any distortion would be negligible i would have thought.
“There is nothing more satisfying than a good weld.” Now get this on some merch!

Ah right yes I get it. Do a root fill. Will have a crack at that. 6013 good enough for a root pass?

Sewer end caps? Glyn Lewis one is a lot less work than having to make one up yourself. and you get the satisfaction of getting it done in a day.

Yes please. Sounds interesting.
Great video. Do you think the bottom of the diff housing would still be vulnerable to denting and cracking?
another great video Chris. :)
cheers bud.
Is it Okay to weld this on while on the car and with the Diff still in Place?
See RAC Parts do bolt on diff pans, can anyone recommend these?
would the actual banjo part of the axle be prone to get distorted due to a lot of heat welding that extra thick pan in...?

can i do this on my series 3 to?
Have a word with Gwyn Lewis
