    If you raise chickens,, I highly recommend that you get a goose to guard them... they are instinctively protective of them.. and they are fearless. They will even drive off a lone coyote

    • @blobbertmcblob4888
      @blobbertmcblob4888 4 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Not true at all. Geese only look after themselves, they'll chase a fox off to protect themselves, but if a fox actually gets a hold of a chicken, the geese won't do anything.
      The best defense against foxes is to be responsible and lock your birds up at night.

    When geese pop their necks, it means go away. I was digging a pond next to a lake where Canadian honkers were raising goslings. The action of curling the bucket and extending the mast was similar enough to the goose warning, every day at lease 100 geese and goslings would stand across the road from me and pop their necks. I had to call Henry Kissinger to solve the problem.

      I remember that they had an area around the entire complex walled off and around 40ft wide which the geese would be able to roam freely and if anyone came over the wall they would be set upon....!
      Gone now though sadly - I visited Bushmills distillery a few times in Northern Ireland - the oldest licensed distillery on the planet going back to the 17th century - really good whiskey too - they use sherry and bourbon casks and it's slightly fruity finish...!

      @Grannvale Flame Emperor The Bushmills distillery is near the Giants Causeway on the Antrim coast - i did the distillery tour a few times - it was great years ago but the last time i went it was really basic cut away back - Irish whiskey is the purest in the world - distilled 3 times - as are all Irish whiskeys - all Scottish whiskeys are distilled twice - and all American whiskeys are distilled only once....!

    • @stevengreen6242
      @stevengreen6242 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      THE HOLY BUTTFUNGUS
      They are actually two separate families. There is one set of parents with the small gosling and then a second set with the larger group of goslings who are bigger. But it is common for Canada geese to mix separate gosling families into one larger bunch that is parented by multiple adults: this is called "gang brooding" and is an effective technique to both share the workload and to increase survival because you have more adults being vigilant for predators. They usually don't do this behaviour until the goslings are big enough not to need brooding under mum at night: they wait until the goslings have started sleeping in a big "goosepile " instead of under mum's wings.

    But in all fairness their bones are porous and light' they have no teeth or talon. They definitely put on a good show with amazing psychological threat and on par with dogs for their alertness. But physically to light to do any real damage and their bite maybe a ouch your ass cheek but thats all it is. The fox in the footage is still young and learning. Next year he may of learnt move tactics and he will definitely be sly with that .

      The bone in the forewings are dense enough to crack bones. That's why they "slap" with their wings. They HURT
