  • It was a nice peaceful morning on the pond with one couple of Canada Geese enjoying themselves, when out of the blue comes another couple, wanting to claim the pond for themselves. I am not sure what pair has claimed the pond at this moment. Very interesting behavior that I had never witnessed before.

beginning of the breeding season. Canada Geese become VERY aggressive as spring approaches. In Northern California, this starts around mid-February and continues until after the goslings hatch.

The big ducks are duking it out. Even Canada geese are fighting, even up in the air while in flight.

Can somebody explain what the behaviour at 4:41 means ? It seems to be some sort of pair binding thing ?

It’s a mating thing, like when a mating male cat bites the neck of the female … to keep her from getting away … he’s just confirming that’s his girl, lol. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

Some nesting pairs have very large areas they claim, while some others will nest close to each other.
Canada geese are very smart and aren't "mean" at all like a lot of people claim. One month out of the entire year, they *might* attack a person to defend nesting area. If you show them you're not a threat, or even befriend them, many will not even get upset if you get close to their nest. I had a goose who would regularly get off of her eggs to come over for a brief snack before going back to sit on their eggs. Wonderful birds.

Look at the date ...They are sorting out territory for THAT time of year .In my home city of Manchester this behaviour happens each year as each want their spot .Very loud like these and amazing to watch .Prefer the geese to Man U Fans.Fabulous birds and NOT for eating :)

Maybe all four geese don't like each other. Maybe they wind up for a four course goose dinner.

Aggressive behavior not unusual. When feeding Canadian geese bread pieced they would bite each other to get at the pieces. Copper Harbor, UP Michigan, Lake Superior.
