In the past 2 days I have spent hours looking for into different mic setups and ways of placing mic-adapter neatly on/below the camera. Some craft metal "thingys'" to hold adapters and wires, others are printing parts with 3D printers. And here are you, instead of spending too much time and money into making things complicated, fixed it with a rubber band by attaching the adapter to mic. Cudos, this will be my fix as well!

I’m still fringe to get the hang of the whole vlogging thing and I have a GoPro 6 but I usually use my iPhone XS for shooting as I’m not so sure whether GoPro will work well for vlogging. After checking your video, it seems like it works just fine and oh I have the ride mic too. So I basically have the same as your set up. It’s really cool to know that it works well. Thanks a lot! 👍🏻

very very very helpful review. I bought this setup using your links. thanks for the tips. I like how you tucked the gopro mic adapter under the dead cat. That helps keep the fuzz out of the shot and the adapter from flopping around. Do you wire tie it at all or just tuck it up there and leave it?
The audio is excellent. Great review. The only issue I have with any GoPro 6 Vlogging setup is the ridiculously STUPID mic adapter plug. If that wasn't a poor after-thought what is? Obviously, GoPro is making a proprietary mic adapter for more money knowing very well so many more people are Vlogging. Still. They could have went about a proprietary mic adapter plug in a common sense fashion, such as, a simple Micro USB cable connecting to their very own proprietary GoPro microphone at the other end. Or, just do away with their greed all-together and leave it open source to use whatever microphone we choose without having to buy their BS mic adapter that looks ugly, gawdy, and completely out of place stupid.
Looks like an awesome setup. Question..can this be used without a cell phone? I just want to store data in the gopro...then transfer it to laptop for editing and upload to youtube.
Do you have the same problem most people are having with the issue of the mic not working? Also does you GoPro hero 6 have the problem where it stops filming on half of your screen? Let me know. I would like to know if your having those issues.
I think I only ended up removing it because I dropped it and broke it 😂 But I think its nice having less glass over the lens for a more crispy image but it does offer great protection to the actual gopro lens
Really starting to have this camera. How tf do you connect this to a LG OLED to watch movies on it? I bought a usb to hdmi cable and nothing... any helps?

+Igor Gaspar yeah for some reason it doesn't work if you use quick record. So just need to turn your camera on and then record. Super weird why it does that but minor issue once you remember 😉
Darrin and Amy Outdoors Perhaps this is a tad late & maybe you’ve figured it already but, I have the karma gimbal & no way is it possible to use this setup with it. The gimbal plugs directly into the camera ports thus you wouldn’t be able to use the mic adapter. The hard case also would not work with the gimbal either because it has it’s own jacket that adapts to the karma drone.
The detail no one advertises, GoPro cameras are not compatible with an external microphone EXCEPT FOR the GoPro Hero BLACK cameras. Black NOT silver nor white.
If you set it up like I have here with the hair tie / rubber band setup. It will never show up in video. But it will still pop into frame if you want to snap a few photos. 👊🏼
Hey Jake, you can solve the dead-cat-in-the-frame issue by adding an adapter that sits between the cage cold shoe and mic to elevate it. a.co/d/cYRTxB5

I go in between the two but been digging linear lately matches up nicely with Sony A6500 footage

Lol already got this set up and love it. With the hero 6 you can zoom in a bit to crop the external mic out if it's still in frame. Big ups !!

Great vid. Best thing about vlogging with a GP in my opinion is how you have a fixed lens with the GP. No matter where you point , it's in focus.

It will probably support the weight but gets tricky having the big mic on top with a gimbal.
