Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed the game as much as I do! Please share this video so I can possibly justify the money I spent on a typewriter. Couple of quick things. I said this a bit in my Discord, but I tried some new things here and I’m not entirely sure they worked, namely the typewriter. I wanted to experiment with some new things like live action, sort of like the blending of art forms in AW2. I had a hard time integrating this, I wasn’t really sure if I was over or under doing it, so I hope it worked for you. Also, the thumbnail is not necessarily to say that this game deserved GOTY any more than the other candidates, I think AW2 is probably on about the same level as Baldur's Gate 3 actually. While BG3 is not necessarily my type of game, this is, and I loved it.
Seeing Sam Lake dancing at the Game Awards smiling ear to ear warms my heart. He's so happy, and his team deserves all the accolades for Alan Wake 2. What a fantastic experience.
Alan Wake 2 is now my favourite game of all time due to just how much content it has and how entertaining it was all the way through, to the characters to the world i really wanted to know everything this world had to offer.
My wife bought me AW2 for Christmas, and I just finished it today. I took my time with it because the world is SO immersive and wonderfully created. Been playing games for over 30 years, and the musical section is probably the craziest, most wonderful sequence I have ever played. This game genuinely had me saying "what...WHAT?!" at several points, due to how everything loops and intertwines together, and how they managed to create all these pieces of art that come together as one cohesive piece is amazing. This game truly is a Masterpiece
Been playing games a long time as well and if you haven’t yet play Control and Quantum Break you really should. QB isn’t “officially” related to the other games…but it definitely is.
Coming from a Finn, I think Alan Wake 2 is and will be one of the most important pieces of Finnish art ever created. There is lot of cultural nuance and respect written into the story which really touched my heart. Finnish cultural identity is quite multifaceted as we have always been an under dog before maybe the 90s and this inferiority complex is still in many of us. Finns tend to be especially touchy about our English speaking abilities and accent. It was refreshing to see our culture handled with such unapologetic adoration and necessary self irony yet presented to the wider public as point of strength and interest. Also, I am pretty sure Alan wake might be somewhat inspired by the Finnish author Mika Waltari. He was the most important artist of the last century I would say.
Coming from someone who is in fact not a Finn, it may not have had as much of an impact on me, but the representation was phenomenal. Despite not being a part of the culture, it's inclusion in the game is part of what makes it so special. I would've loved to touch on that, but not being Finnish, I figured I'd leave it to the people who understand it best. Thanks for the comment!
@@CNRMRY_YT In these difficult times my friend I ask that you talk and think about us. Even if you misspeak it is better than not at all. I went into Alan Wake 2 blind after falling in love with Control and then Alan Wake. Took me by surprise in more ways than one. An Immersive, Tense and Cerebral experience. Something created with love and care, with each thing that makes it so good woven together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. A masterpiece created with love, care and passion. A real gem with soul. I have seen a fair number of reviews and such on Alan Wake II. This describes what I loved about it the best, wonderful work.
I had heard of Alan Wake and had a vague idea that many people liked it, but I mostly knew nothing about it when I saw Herald of Darkness performed at the Game Awards. That's what got me interested. And now, after having played through the game and new game plus over the last two weeks, I can say that it was more than interesting. 16:07 From the very beginning of Alan Wake: “Stephen King once wrote, “Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear.” In a horror story, the victim keeps asking why - but there can be no explanation, and there shouldn’t be one. W video man! I'm so happy to see the universe, Remedy, and Sam get their flowers. For the longest time, I felt like I was one of the few fans of Alan Wake. Seeing the easter egg almost immediately at the college in Quantum Break on release gave me so much hope they'd expand on it, and finally seeing more in Control I've been so pumped ever since. I'm sooooooo looking forward to the expansions, Control 2 and presumably Alan Wake 3. With how long games take to make these days, I fear we're gonna be waiting a good while but it's okay, the universe is in great hands.
Definitely one of the best games I've ever played. The music chapter was absolutely phenomenal. Love Saga and enjoyed her parts a lot. I did enjoy also going back to Alan Wake 1 with it's remaster but it definitely aged not the best. Cannot wait for Control 2.
I played through the original for this video cause I wanted to play it as initially intended and also to see if it holds up. It could be worse, but I don't think it fares particularly well against new games and even some other games from around the same time. That's ok, to me its more about the story and characters than the gameplay anyways. I'm also really looking forward to Control 2. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment :)

@@chriskaufman5214 I’m not sure, that hasn’t really be explored yet. I’m sure it could work because (minor spoilers) there are remnants you can find of the FBC where they were experimenting with nursery rhymes and they actually managed to create some minor changes in reality. They say in the game, and like I said in the video, that it’s very conditional. Since there are certain requisites and things that need to be taken into account, I think it would have to be a certain type of painting in a certain place, maybe even viewed by a certain person. This video overall is very well done and I really enjoyed it, but allow me to say that you either didn't understand or knew how to accurately explain the concept of "ludo-narrative dissonance". You examples of really minor immersion breaking stuff as Ellie not being noticed by enemies on The Last of Us, and this isn't what ludo-narrative dissonance is about. Ludo narrative dissonance is when the "ludo" (the "fun" or more "mechanical" side of the game) contradicts the "narrative" (the themes or overall implications of the story). To keep it Naughty Dog and even keep The Last of Us, a good example would be how the "ludo" or the "fun" side of The Last of Us Part II is the combat, therefore killing and beating up enemies, meanwhile the "narrative" carries this overarching message that violence is bad and shouldn't be the answer. This is ludo-narrative dissonance. 😁
Thanks for the kind words. This videos in a weird spot for me as it sort of fell into the “style over substance” box. I tried to get the vibe right and in turn got lost in some parts that could have used more clarity and research, and what you picked out is one of those for me. Thanks for the comment!
I think it absolutely deserved the win it got. It was a great experience and narratively wonderful, just a fun and unique work of art, loved it and gonna do a ng+ which i never bother with in most games. But BG3 was a better gaming experience overall. Not to diminish Alan Wake, there was just some incredible competition this year. What it comes down to for me is, while Alan Wake 2 had me hooked on the world and narrative, BG3 had better actual gameplay.
That’s a completely fair take. Like I said in the pinned comment here, I don’t particularly think AW is a better game than BG3. I think they’re on pretty similar footing, and BG certainly deserved its win as well, I just personally preferred Alan Wake. With the thumbnail I have to put something somewhat controversial because at the end of the day I do want people to click on the video and watch it. That’s just the game. Thanks for watching and even better, commenting. Means a lot. Have a good day!
@cnrmry_yt Of course I just took it as your opinion. That's completely fair as well. BG3 is not really my type of game usually either, which makes it that much more impressive to me that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Alan Wake 2 I knew I was gonna play, it's my favorite genre and I love Remedy's games. I had absolutely zero intention of playing BG3 until after it came out and everyone was raving about it, as I don't like 'crpgs' or DnD. Just sharing my opinion and perspective, not suggesting you should change yours lol. In the end they were both labors of love from studios run by people that actually have a passion for their work. And the quality really shows the difference.
Alan Wake was fun. It was intense. Orginal and unique story that was great. Great characters. Good setting. I enjoyed the gameplay and the mechanics. Alan Wake 2 is beautiful. The switch to survival/horror was the best choice. Having 2 protagonists was smart, and the only way the story makes sense. Alan had to have help getting out. The switch mechanic is perfect. Alan and the dark place is really fun and love the writer mechanics and the lamp. Love Brightfalls and the surrounding areas. The graphics, scenery, ambiance, sound design. All beautiful. The seamless switch from Game to live action is perfect. The gameplay mechanics are really fun. It is a truly scary game with a bunch of intense moments. The acting. Live and voice is great. The story is wonderful and still unique. They answered a bunch of questions but still left a lot of mystery to the story and some characters. Sucks the game was a chore for you. I've waited 11 years (played Alan Wake in 2012) for a sequel. Gave up on it and then finally got it. Day 1. Love it. It was not a disappointment. I love pretty much everything about it. Love the improved, more aggressive, scarier, and more varied Taken. The game is great and deserves the awards it got plus some. The story telling ability that Sam Lake and Remedy have is unmatched. They put so much time, effort, passion, hard work and pride in their work. It shows. Love Remedy , Alan Wake 1 and 2 and I can't wait for the DLC
And that’s ok. I think BG3 is an amazing game, and personally I believe AW2 and BG are on similar footing. We all have our tastes. Thanks for watching!
It reinvented storytelling by being so incredibly boring I couldn't even finish it and I pirated the game. Also Alan wake 2 has just as bad combat, not that you ever fight anything ever

Thanks for the kind words. This videos in a weird spot for me as it sort of fell into the “style over substance” box. I tried to get the vibe right and in turn got lost in some parts that could have used more clarity and research, and what you picked out is one of those for me. Thanks for the comment!
"The game I particularly like is the GOTY", the game is great, but BG3 was a cultural fenomena.
That’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with believing something someone else doesn’t.
Alan wake 2077 next pls
Alan Wake 2 destroyed Alan wake. What a chore this game is. Alan Wake was a masterpiece
I mean… I disagree. But you’re allowed to think that!
Death Stranding….
But nah, still BG3.
And that’s ok. I think BG3 is an amazing game, and personally I believe AW2 and BG are on similar footing. We all have our tastes. Thanks for watching!
Felt like pretentious, pseudo-intellectual bullshit to me.
You did great work on the video, though.
It reinvented storytelling by being so incredibly boring I couldn't even finish it and I pirated the game.
Also Alan wake 2 has just as bad combat, not that you ever fight anything ever
