You are an excellent teacher. Explaining where to place stitches, clearly showing and explaining as you go along - and a nice voice to match. Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us.
This video is the clearest Virus Shawl tutorial on the internet! You get right to the point and don't dawdle over every single stitch. After watching this video twice, I can now make a perfect Virus Shawl.,,,and believe me, I'll be making a lot of them. Thanks for your great instructions and your good camera work!
You do an excellent job at showing how to do all the stitches. Your speaking style, pace, and camera work make it easy to follow. As a beginner, tutorials like yours will have me learning fast. Thanks for sharing!
I just watched your video all the way through. Now I'm ready for the store to open tomorrow to go buy the yarn!! My son just got married, so I am planning to make a shawl for his new wife!! I've seen this pattern done in several multicolor yarns - so pretty! I've been VERY hesitant to start the Virus Shawl, but I was the same with the PICOT SHELL afghan and I managed to conquer that! (made 3 baby size so far). THANK YOU for emphasizing to COUNT your dc's before moving on -- It is SOOOO easy to get moving along and miss count as you go!! My husband loves to laugh when he sees me FROGGING! (I should never have told him about that crochet terminology!). THANK YOU!!!!! One of my sons out of college and recently married and the other son in college now, so I have returned to crocheting after about a 25 year halt and really enjoying myself!!! Only thing is......I now need a MAID for my housework! haha I'll post a picture!
That is wonderful you are back to crocheting! This shawl is so beautiful in lots of different yarn, I'm amazed at the variety. It will make a beautiful post wedding gift. 🌸 Thank you for watching and commenting. I look forward to seeing pictures! Thank you! P.s. I defiantly need a maid too! ☺️
I have watched so many tutorials on how to do this shawl but I just couldn’t get it, in the end I gave up. Then your video popped up on a “shawl” search so I thought why not, just one more. Fantastic. I grasped it straight away. Your tutorial is so clear & unhurried which makes it simple to follow. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I’m off to get my yarn & have a go 😊
I loved this pattern and your videos for both the shawl and the virus afghan. You explain things so clearly. I have been crocheting for 41 years but found learning this way such fun.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VERY HELPFUL VIDEO, was so nice to have a blueprint to come back to, so I could check my work. My shawl came out perfect, I received so many compliments.
With bag making I would like to be given (paid for) the pattern, fabrics, extras, instructions. Being a beginer I would like to start off with everything supplied and learning to cut out material and instructions as to how to do it and what to join up first. This would be so helpful i
Good video instruction. Easy to follow, clear voice and demonstrations of each stitch used when it is being used at the first. REally like my shawl. Thanks/.
Hi there, I have to say, you are so easy to follow.....I'm new to crocheting. My mom passed away and left behind all her crocheting supplies. I've tried to learn from her but I couldn't. So I picked it up and just started to crochet...my family teases me...they say my mom is living through me...and I believe she is....thank you for your easy video! ❤️
You are so sweet. Thank you very much. I really enjoy crocheting with all my subscribers. I'm so happy you enjoyed my video. I really appreciate your complements. 🌸🌸❤️
First I thank you for taking the time to video your work. I'm a 66 year old beginner and I found your video to be very helpful with slow enough instructions even I could understand. I felt as if I could crochet this shawl and hope to do so soon. I got interested in crochet when I saw some edge crochet on kitchen towel, etc. of course I need to learn to crochet on larger hooks, but I'm determined to learn. Thanks so much.
Oh thank you so much for your tutorial. I have a friend that was asking if I could make one of these shawls for her. Well I can show her the work that I’ve done. 🙏🏽🌺
Best of all the virus shawl videos! Clear, easy to follow, (you're a fast crocheter!), and great of you to point out where the count can go wrong. I really enjoyed this video - thank you very much!
+thesummerdream You should really start with a beginner level smaller project that is more do-able for you since you've never crocheted anything before, this one is tricky and has some chains that can hide and it also depends on the yarn type and weight you use as to how hard it will be to find these chains throughout every row. There are hundreds of amazing beginner level crochet projects, including lovely shawls that are much simpler, long/cowl/infinity scarves, or even something more like a simple basic 5 or 6 petal flower or a dish/kitchen cloth or towel if you feel you need to start there.... it's all wonderful, useful and something you'll be proud of! You'll get discouraged and frustrated if you try to start a pattern that is above the level of crochet you are at. There is beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced crochet, and the pattern are rated by these categories in order to help you pick one that is a good one for you! :).
Just taught myself how to crochet using youtube videos. So far I've only made rugs but with this tutorial I think I am ready to make a shawl, Thanks so very much, and you are so pleasant to listen to
Thank you for your clear instructions. I especially appreciated that you showed how easy it was to count the chain 4 in the row before as one of the double crochets. I was making that exact mistake. I will look for more of your tutorials.
Jonna, just think you did a wonderful job demonstrating the instructions of this shawl. I'm at the point in my life about knitting and crocheting that I don't want to have to figure things when it comes to troubleshooting mistakes in patterns. By watching you, I had not problems at all. Now I don't think I even need the pattern, unless there is some time between using. Thanks again, you are great.
This is the best instructional video ever. Thank you so much. You do an awesome job. It is easy to follow even for beginners. Love this pattern. Keep up the good work. you are my favorite.
Thank you for the excellent video. I am amazed that I could do it, but it was easy with your detailed help. I just lost my father at 92 and wanted to.make something for my 91 year old mother. She'll love it.
Thank you. I started this shawl and the video I was following, had me so confused... I was ready to frog it completely.... Your way of explaining the steps and showing your work helped me through. Now, I can finish my shawl.
I love this shawl in the off white. The virus shawl is very popular on TH-cam right now. I seen it done in multicolored yarn also. I love them all. But for this shawl I preferred the soft white. Thanks for teaching this. I cannot wait to start on mine. 🙃👍
Zulma Ilerio I am trying it with lion brand landscapes yarn. light and multi colored, and it turns out beautiful! great for summer too. love this tutorial!
I loved doing the first 11 rows with you. I am not very good at figuring it out myself and I would love to have your tutorial go through the entire shawl.
Thank you Jonna! Because of you I was able to make this shawl and give it as a Birthday Gift to a relative. Your tutorial was the only one I could really understand being that it's so clear. You're a Wonderful Teacher!
Thank you so much Jonna this has been the best video tutorial to watch, at a good pace and can hear you clearly. Thank you so very much, Bless you for your help :)
I'm in love with this and so thank you , Good thing you tube can go back a few hundred times lol..... was trying to do this with a migraine then after meds. had to give up till this morning......but loving it...... I've never made a shawl or poncho . Just the easy stuff. Love it....
I am an old woman. If you use white yarn for demonstration, you can use a darker colour of tablecloth or background. Alternatively, you can use a bright colour of yarn for demo. xxx Beginner007
yes me too i'm not that much a beginner, but too much waffling and not down to it. I mean even where you say chain3, then turn and chain 7 making ten. Ok but it be better, to not waffle on about it. Just say 3ch, turn+make further 7 chain, and continue on. not being rude honestly just making a suggestion. cause when doing new stuff, it can get hard to follow
In order to get ready for the turn for the next row, dc in the top of the last ch 3, then ch 7 this will give you the 10 sts for the beginning of the row.
Thank you for sharing it. Btw, is the best tutorial of virus shawl of all internet. I`m Brazilian and I understood all you said. Lovely voice, clear video, awesome teacher. Hugs from Rio, Brazil
Thank you so much Jonna! I have loved creating this shawl! I am now making one for every girl in my life for Christmas! I am also crocheting the virus blankets for my fiance and father as well! This has been the first time that I have been really excited to crochet. I cannot put my hook and yarn down! Again thank you so much for your easy and clear tutorial! I look forward to seeing what you create next!
thank you, I use to follow written instructions but video is better, you are a great instructor, had to try this shawl and will be making several for gifts
This is the clearest easiest tutorial I have seen on this shawl. I appreciate you, thank you for the clarity I liked your video & subscribed. And your real, we all make boo- boos. Very gracious of you to make the rest of us feel OK about our boo-boos. Mine is coming out fabulous because of you.
Hi jonna is this pattern have the finish part? I follow u from start but when u get to roll 11 u stop so I don't know how to finish it and what it will look like. . Please show how to finish up. Thank you
+Von Nguyen this pattern just has 4 repeating rows. Row 12 is a repeat of row 8 13 is 9 14 is 10 15 is 11 Then you start over, every 4 rows are repeated. 16 is 8 or 12 17 is 9 or 13 18 is 10 or 14 19 is 11 or 15 BUT remember your shawl is GROWING, so there will not be exact repeats of any row, just step back and look at your progress and where your "arches" are. Um on the edges you keep saying the DC counts as 2, plus 7 chains equals 10. do you mean the DC counts as 3 or should we be doing 8 chains? thanks for your help!!
So glad I found your tutorial, I love the virus shawl pattern and you explain it so nicely. I didn't have a problem understanding what to do. I will be using your tutorial to make mine. Thanks for the great lesson.
No I made a mistake. Three plus seven is ten. The double crochet counts as 3, plus chain 7 = 10. This way both sides match. 😉 thank you for watching sorry for the mistake.
Hi Jonna. Just had to tell you l made one of these for a. Friend in a yarn store here in Ireland, went in today and they had it hanging up with my name on it, l was so proud, and it's all down to you so a huge thank you, hugs from Ireland xxxx
In the second row of DC's, you made the first actual DC in the same stitch as the ch 3, but the ch 3 is counted as the first DC, so, to keep the number of stitches correct, you did not end the row with a DC in the ch 3 in the row below it, as you should have. You never do a stitch in the same stitch as the starting chain, unless you're doing an increase.
YY4Me133 Its not always true putting a stitch in the same stitch isn't always an increase. I do that all the time making a perfect straight edge on a blanket.
I am watching this all the way through before starting the garment, and I have to say, you're going the perfect pace for me! Can't wait to start this! Will post a picture when finished! Thanks for the tutorial, Jonna!
You really are a good teacher! I will recommend you to my daughters, they are beginners, and they will easily learn from you. I’m NOT a good teacher btw!😀
ColleenH65, just rewind the video!!!! The rows just keep repeating themselves. Just keep repeating the rows that she says too until you have the length that YOU want your shawl to be.
I agree with some of the comments. I have watched videos on the virus pattern before and got so confused that I gave up, but your teaching style was so easy to follow along with that I totally understand the virus pattern and I am so excited to get started!! Thank you!
I just finished my first virus shawl thanks to your amazing tutorial! I was so intimidated but you made it so easy. By just a few rows in I had the pattern down thanks to your instructions! Thank you so much!
Hi Joanna, thanks for sharing these patterns, that you put time to show us all the wares you make. I' ve been with you for years now, I'm staying . TYA
You explained this very well. I watched the German video and understood from watching her do it and hers was with finer yarn and was gorgeous but I love the fact that there is an English version of this Virus Shawl and I love the fact that your doing it with thicker yarn so we can all see exactly where the hook is supposed to go . I can't wait to make it, my husband would love this on me. Great job making this and explaining please keep making more videos!!! Keep them coming!!! ☺☺☺
Thank you so much! Your shawl will be beautiful. I enjoy making videos, I'm so happy you enjoyed this one. Thank you for watching and commenting. I love hearing from my subscribers. 🌸🌸🌸
You're welcome! I'm finally learning some pretty stitches....with help from my daughter...and your wonderful videos! My virus shawl is looking beautiful...and I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos.I can't wait to check out more.😁
Your tutorial is very well executed and pattern is fabulous! I look forward to following your videos. This instructor is easy to follow and is precise in her direction. Keep up the good work.

So glad I found your tutorial, I love the virus shawl pattern and you explain it so nicely. I didn't have a problem understanding what to do. I will be using your tutorial to make mine. Thanks for the great lesson.
7+2 =10 !!? Now I'm confused 😓 but thank you so much for the tutorial your work is beautiful
No I made a mistake. Three plus seven is ten. The double crochet counts as 3, plus chain 7 = 10. This way both sides match. 😉 thank you for watching sorry for the mistake.
yes like me, you have not gone onto rows you should have!!
I seem to be stuck on Row 10 twice!!
I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one 🤣
Thank you. Your teaching style is very fluid and easy to follow. This is going to make a beautiful piece!
+Vyann Mombourquette 💕thank you for watching and commenting 🌸 🌸
super cute !
+amarpal kaur thank you!
What a great tutorial you created. Your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to more. Thank you,
Thank you for watching and commenting Lucia!
That great! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I can't wait to see the pic you post!
Beautiful. Can't wait to try this. I'm wondering if Caron cakes would make up well in this pattern.
+Dianne Duncan I haven't used that yarn. But I've seen it done. They are beautiful!!
Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸 🌸

+david deida that is so great! Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸

+Linda McNeely try the German shell Shawl on Ravelry thank you for watching and commenting
You really are a good teacher! I will recommend you to my daughters, they are beginners, and they will easily learn from you. I’m NOT a good teacher btw!😀
I having difficulty doing rows 10 and on without watching you !
exactly ColleenH65............why just leave us hanging??
ColleenH65 me too. I went through and write down the directions she gave and how they repeated. Hopefully it will help.
ColleenH65, just rewind the video!!!! The rows just keep repeating themselves. Just keep repeating the rows that she says too until you have the length that YOU want your shawl to be.
Thank you, you are very clear in the way you teach. Very kind of you to share your knowledge.
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Great work, very easy to follow! But... 7 plus 2 = 9, not 10!!!!
+moramoramorini yes thanks.😄 and thanks for watching!
A dbl crochet is three.
Dont know if you need another good comment.
I understood everything and made it all the way through!! Bravo to us both!! Ha Ha. Stay blessed.
I always need good comments! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me. It keep me motivated to keep filming 🥰 Have a wonderful week!
i got really confused u said that two plus seven is ten its actually three plus seven is ten
ch 7 plus the dc into top of chain 3 is 10
alex hickle
She did say 2+7 is 10 but I think it was just a tiny mistake. The double crochet is meant to stand for 3, not 2. So then 3+7 is 10
+Gloria Lucia Storm thank you that is exactly what happened.
I agree with some of the comments. I have watched videos on the virus pattern before and got so confused that I gave up, but your teaching style was so easy to follow along with that I totally understand the virus pattern and I am so excited to get started!! Thank you!
