    FYI, for anyone out there, I marked down the times in the video for the repeating rows ( after row 13) After finishing row 13, repeat rows 10-13 until desired length..Row10 starts at 46:54, Row 11 at. 51:42, Row 12 at 57:05, Row 13 at 1:03:42. Hope this helps

    I am truly blown away with the response this video has been getting, and I can't thank you all enough for your support and comments. I take my channel and my tutorials seriously, and it really means the world to me when I believe that I've actually helped someone! In fact, you all have inspired me to come up with a new pattern of my own for a shawl that I'm currently working on, stay tuned for it when it comes out! Until then - keep inspired, keep caffinated, and keep stitching! 😉✌☃

    It is now almost exactly 4 years since you first published this video and I wanted you to know that you are still the go-to instructor for just the level of instruction I need. You are funny and sweet and just a great guy. When I'm frustrated and can't quite get a pattern, I shine my Fiber Spider light into the sky (a spider clutching a crochet hook in front two feet and a ball of yarn in two front feet on the other side) and it's FIBER SPIDER TO THE RESCUE! I sincerely don't know what I would do without you! Much love to you!

    The best part of your tutorials, besides your down-to-earth comments and fun quips, is the fact that you explain the PATTERN itself and not waste time teaching the basic stitches in the condescending manner that many others do. The tips you give help with retention of the stitch variations so I am less likely to keep consulting notes or video. KUDOS to your teaching style (and wonderful soothing voice).

    Hey there Fiber Spider. I don't comment much, because I feel like I would just be repeating myself about how much you have taught me, how much I LOVE the way you teach, and what an inspiration you are. I have completed many of your projects, and I only started teaching myself how to crochet about 7 months ago. AND yes they actually look really GOOD. Dear Spidey: I really enjoyed your video explaining how to do the virus Shawl and the fact that you went to round 13. Also the fact that you provided us with how to continue on in this process after row 13. Here’s a couple of tips that might help those of us who are not proficient in crocheting. I found myself wishing that your background was a solid color as opposed to plaid. And wishing after you finished a new row that you would lay out your work and and smooth it out so we could see it better. Thank you for your time and patience. You’re doing a great job. Wish I had found you sooner.

    I don’t normally comment publicly, but I made an exception here. Had I not found and renewed my interest in crocheting during the pandemic and your videos in particular, I would have gone stark raving mad! You brought me calmness in the midst of insanity all around me with your calm and easy manner and way of teaching. It just clicks for me. I learn best by seeing and then doing. Written patterns are gibberish to me until I actually SEE it done. This pattern looked so daunting about 6 months ago and I skipped right over it. A friend sent me the link recently and I find now I can now not only manage it, I’m looking forward to finishing and wearing this treat for myself! Thank you so much from another appreciative “yarnivore” and PLEASE keep the videos coming! Recently spotted the “Granny” version of this and it looks like a 3 part challenge! WoW 🤩!

      Same here! I've had a few virus shawl tutorials saved to try and after five minutes in to them, went "NOPE". Here, it makes SENSE because the pattern repetition itself is covered, not just "do these stitches, then these, doo-dee-doo" without pausing to lay out the work and show how it builds on itself. I think this is the first time I've started a project and followed along without ripping out a bunch of rows and rewinding!

I have had a hard time reading any written patterns and have struggled with the online tutorials.. AAACCKKK! Fiber Spider that is a wonderful outlook on what you do.
      Personally, I think the fact that you, being a male, find crocheting as important as we do.
      I really dig that. crocheting isn't just a females sport lol.
      Can you just imagine if more men got involved and engineered new patterns and masterpieces?! That's not to say that females haven't contributed significantly to the crochet community over the centuries. But having a mans perspective can add so much more to this arena of craft.
      Hence the proof of your creative deigns and awesome teaching techniques.
      I don't know of you have a Facebook or not but if you do it would be cool if you would add me.
      There are a ton of crocheters on my friends list that could benefit greatly from your crochet perspective.
      Hope you have a wonderful day in Jesus name!

    Love this! Your'e very pleasant and easy to understand and follow. I've seen other virus shawl tutes and you top them all. Thanks for showing us this awesome pattern. My ONLY real suggestions would be to put a plain background instead of something with a pattern, so that the camera doesn't focus on the stripes of your background instead of you. Peace!

    This is such a great resource for the virus shawl! I'm frustrated with my Caron Cake though, I am using Lilac Frosting and I have made it all the way through row 13 without experiencing a colour change. It doesn't seem like I will see one in the next few rows either! What has been your experience with the consistency of colour changes with different Cakes?

    • @FiberSpider
      @FiberSpider  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dani Girl firstly I'm so glad you are finding my video helpful! As for any variegated yarn, my experience tells me - go with it and enjoy the ride 🙂 No two are ever exactly alike, just like people. Also, keep in mind that at the beginning the color seems to last a long time, but as you go on and the rows get bigger, the striping will be quicker and more distinct. Btw, I have a new shawl pattern that I've been working on with Caron Cakes and hope to film it soon! Please stay tuned in for future updates, until then, keep at it! 😉

    • @loriweigert1927
      @loriweigert1927 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dani - I am using a Caron Cake and thought the same thing. The purple was boring and it kind of switched to a pinkish purple. But Row 13 - WOW! It's bright orangish! It made me so happy! I'm starting from the center of the ball if that makes a difference.

    Hi guys I left some longer comments earlier today thanks to Melrose and Fiber Spider I’m well on my way to finishing my shawl for a private show after I couldn’t finish the first one. Melrose you’re a big help with the time stamp Fiber Spider your instructions were so good and video was super. I wrote down row by row watched and worked 8hrs yesterday on the shawl. On row 8 you gave us a clue look familiar now.
    So the Repeat rows are 8-11
    Because row 8 is a ch 10 increase the big loop at the bottom you will always increase at the bottom and the sides will also have more stitches.
    (Rows 12 and 13 are just repeats of row 8 and 9)
    Hope this helps too thank you so much Melrose and Fiber Spider as always I look forward to more of your beautiful work💕

    I have been making Prayer Shawls for the ladies of my church (have done 22 since fall of 2016) and have been on the lookout for interesting patterns. Thought I was going to have to repeat a pattern when I happened on the Viral Shawl. Found the written pattern very confusing and was going to quit until I found your tutorial. Absolutely wonderful. You move at a pace that I was able to write down your steps (which BTW were far clearer than my written pattern!) AND work the rows and I am thrilled with the results. Thanks for the time you spend doing these for everyone. You are a real blessing!!
