      wannaknowit precious stars pads has a great video on removing pain free, you just squish the end a bit and kind of do the c fold inside you so you break the suction. She also says to point it down so you don't hit your urethra as that can cause a lot of pain. Hope this helps :-)

      Glad I'm not the only one. No controls. Not taking density of materials or starting weights. The materials should have at least been weighed before and after. The differential is the amount absorbed. That is just one major blunder in a catastrophe of an "experiment". I applaud the effort but this needs a redo.

    Even with more and more women switching to reusable products I still find that SO many women are completely against it. I was definitely one of those women, but I've been using cloth pads and menstrual cups since last April and I can't imagine going back to disposable products. Ladies, if you are still on the fence about reusable products just know that it reusables really are better all around. At least they are IMO. :) Now I really DO have happy periods! Lol

    personally I use my tampon till I cant use it, not to mention I wear a pad so when it leaks it doesn't touch me. Plus tampons are meant to open you held that tampon in such a way that it couldn't open to its full potential. Your videos are very much so opinionated, and different brands use better items, and have more absorbency than others.

    • @AlexStefanOnline
      @AlexStefanOnline 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Well, opinionated or not, I don't think that tampon could have gotten any bigger. Also, the cups are much healthier than any other product (including the pads) and are way cheaper - just think about how much you spend on pads and tampons a year. You should really do some proper research.

      noa ♥ It's actually the chemicals contained in the pad or tampon, mixing with your blood that causes the smell. Menstrual blood by itself does not smell even after a few days. So the scent is just covering a problem that the pad/tampon created in the first place.

    • @choukettaxel
      @choukettaxel 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rebecca xo Well most of the cups have two sizes, one if you have given birth or are above 30 (Large) , and one if you have not and are under 30 (Small). You can see in comparative charts that most of them have around the same capacity, but DivaCup, Miacup, Mpower, Natural Mama, Femmy Cycle and RubyCup have the biggest capacity. Then again, it can be a question of morphology. You shouldn't take the largest because you have an heavy flow (as shown in the video, you tampons and pads can be decieving...) because they might be uncomfortable. If your cervix is low and you take a large one, it won't fit properly...Personally, I usually used a whole box of super tampons by period, sometimes even more, but I have no trouble with the cup. I'd advise a Divacup to start, or a Mooncup. (The one I use =) )

      +Aneira Silvermoon This girl who was friends with my sister was wearing a tampon and it got stuck inside of her vagina. I think she had a really heavy flow and the string got too wet, but when she tried taking the tampon out, the string came off of it so she couldn't pull the rest out or something and she had to go to the hospital to get it removed. Ew, ouch and awkward. I can only imagine the struggle if that situation happened with a cup getting stuck in there instead. Just a nice little story to gross y'all out and probably scare you. I just stick to pads since I head about that, I'm so petrified. Of course it's pretty unlikely that that will happen, though.

    pads can move and if you have a heavy flow OMG get ready to the inevitable overnight "spill" ... tampons with the strings are super annoying when going to use the bathroom to pee... Haven't used this cups but why haven't they created something else, something more convenient for women?? I love my always infinity pads and Tampax pearl tampons but sure they can be a pain and annoying sometimes so I'm going to try the diva cup... nothing to lose :)

      +SOOMPiBABY Honestly, I would love to try it. Any means of less mess during the day is where I want to be putting my money, plus you only have to buy one and replace it as often as you like, you can wear gloves while cleaning it. Plus I don't want to die from having a tampon inside of me, I have nothing bad to say about it until I've tried it for myself.

      +Maddison Le Guier Same I happen to be trying it for the first time right now. It doesn't leak a drop for the length of a whole day (when I've had to change tampons *at least* every two hours), it's actually less messy than tampons as well and once you've got it in you don't feel it at all. This comes from a person who's been using tampons for more than ten years now, but I stumbled upon the menstrual cup, read of it's many advantages and the opinions of many women who have been using their's for years and decided to just jump into the new and give it a try.

    "Yes, let me perform a completely biased experiment with an extremely limited test group; Filling the Diva cup completely to maximum capacity but not allowing the other control groups the same right." Seems legit.
    Not saying the cup is terrible, but if you want a fair and balanced demonstration you need a static set of rules that don't change per product not only that but using a large cup with neither the most absorbent possible tampons and pads is rigging the race.
    The comfort level of each product is irrelevant in a test about absorption. Also one product per category isn't enough. And with no actual measurement of liquid in fl.oz. the results are moot. If you want to use the diva cup as a measuring device, fine. Fill it and drop the tampon in, something tells me it'll absorb more than a small amount of liquid being poured onto it.
    This was a pointless and biased. Your about section says it all: "I now sell menstrual cups at my store -link-"

      to put in you pinch the sides together then then fold in half and insert. Its very easy. To remove you insert your fingers and grab the end of the cup and pinch to stop the suction and pull it out and dump. At first it was a little weird and I was scared but I've been using my cup for almost 7 months now and I love it.

    Unless you use an overnight pad instead of that thin little pad and an ultra tampon, this is way too biased. Since you're comparing it to a full capacity cup.

    • @TreidaMalkemus
      @TreidaMalkemus 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Why yes, she is a little more biased, she is showing the different capacities of them. The cup will hold more, and that is what she was showing.
      Does that mean leave a pad on till its full? Does that mean to leave a tampon till full? Does that even mean to leave a cup in till full? No, but if you get in the situation where you can't change a pad or tampon for whatever reason, the cup would have provided more protection.

      ChinchillaZ you clearly have an extreme dislike for this product based on you attitude to my comment and several others. I've said previously I've not used it. I'm only stating what LOOKS to be what happens. I'm still using pads but I'm still getting rashes from them having to wear them for several weeks and even months. I was only looking for information on this specific product and not bashing other products. I prefer pads to tampons but as I stated I'm getting rashes for needing to wear them for weeks and changed regularly.

      A) the cups make a seal so they don't leak. I've been using one for two years and it rarely leaks and way less often than when I used tampons.
      B) Why use cups instead(which btw are small most hold less than 30 mL)? They are better for you. There are better for the environment. They don't contain toxic chemicals that are absorbed by your body and taken straight to your bloodstream. No risk of TSS. They don't dry out your vagina which if you are like me you won't even realize till you stop using them. You should really look into it instead of just blindly insulting them. Menstrual products is a $718 million market so you should probably question if they actually have your best interest at heart.

    I really prefer the cup, there is a learning curve on it but after you know how to use it, there is no leakage, its completely comfortable because its soft, sorta melds to your body, If your already using tampons I would recommend this. its like 40 bucks but it lasts for years, think about how much 40 bucks stretches with pads or tampons.

  • @deusjevoke
    @deusjevoke 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    I dislike tampons a lot because the cord gets wet, when you pee it's like dripping, they leak way too quickly end they suck dry your vagina, wich is the most disgusting feeling. You always run out of stock right when you are at work.
    I have waited way too long to try a cup, but now I am a fan! This is the thing for me, no more leakage, no more slow drip pee :) no more awfull disgusting feel and smell from pads...
    And for people who are worried about the size: we are designed to push a bowling ball out ;)

      Just because some women can give birth without complications doesn't mean that EVERYONE can wear these cups without discomfort. Some women have narrower than average vagina canals, thinner skin, skin that doesn't stretch as well, and some are more sensitive in that area. One size does NOT fit all. Our bodies are different. What works for you may not work for everyone. Sorry for going a little crazy on your post, but I see this assumption about cups, pap smears, sex with penises/dildos, etc, a lot.

      Joke Soetewey Well, even the smallest cup I've seen looks too big for me. It would have to have a tiny opening (especially since you have to pull it out when open!), and then it probably wouldn't hold much blood. And just because something is small doesn't mean it's not still uncomfortable. I can feel the small tampons just from standing still. I can't imagine those cups are comfortable to move around and bend with those things inside when I could hardly handle doing that with a tampon. I shouldn't even have to explain this shit or repeat myself. Cups don't work for everyone. The end.

      Weirdology if you have discomfort with tampons it means that you didn't paled it well in its place. I struggled with candidosis years and years, I went to a lot of ginecologists,and in the end I had to figure it out that my tampons did it to me lol. They dried me out and that was the main problem. I stopped using tampons and mirraculously my problems disappeard too. lol.

    From my experience pads nearly don't absorb that much. My stuff always went sideways, instead of lengthwise, not using the entire length of the pad. I haven't been using them for at least 10 years, but I remember that I always had to change them when they were only 1/3 full because I would leak otherwise due to the fact that everything went sideways.

  • @evieautumnhart2504

    the pad is actually designed to draw liquid away from the absorbent area. you could have added about half that amount, and the back would look exactly the same. They're basically built like " night-time" rash resistant diapers.

    because so many women DID get TSS after that marketed idea, they did legally have to include a warn of it on ALL tampons after (b/c they researched and pinned it to circumstances over that particular brand) and they advise women to change them more frequently to avoid it. The cup, however, CAN produce the same environment - mishandling, not washing your hands before insertion, or improper cleaning/storage + one good accidental scrape from a nail and yes, it's possible with a cup, too.

      I'm a cup user and I've never had blood get on me, the blood is inside the cup and if you have a good seal there won't be any on the bottom part of the cup which is where you grab. And if you're worried about the blood like "sticking" to the bowl of the toilet all you have to do is put a layer of toilet paper in the toilet and empty out the cup on top of that. I've never had a problem with making a "mess" using cups, hope this helped :)

    The reason why the tampon/pad commercials use the "blue liquid" is because they are mimicking how blood appears inside of the human body. Before blood is exposed to the air, it is a dark blue color (look at the veins on your wrists or arms). When a person gets cut or a woman is menstruating, the blood turns into this brownish/bright red color because of the metals, such as copper, iron, and zinc, are having chemical reactions to the oxygen and water levels in the air. Hope this was helpful.

      You can replace it when you feel it's time is up. But if kept properly sanitized, they can last years. And they're a much healthier option as they don't use harsh chemicals like pads use and cannot give you TSS like tampons.

    • @miaclemons
      @miaclemons 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really not as bad as you think :) you just wash it with the appropriate soap (you can wash it whenever you want to). It's surprisingly clean to use after you get the hang of it. I'd buy a new one within a year tho, depends on well the the cup is made. The best thing about it is that you literally do not need to change it until the end of the day, you bleed A LOT less than you think you do. When you take it out the blood stays inside the cup and there shouldn't be any on the outside of the cup...so your hands won't get anything on it.

    • @Fhornergal
      @Fhornergal 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well its your own body and its not like you can infect yourself...if you wash your hands which we all should be doing before and after whether we use cups, tampons, pads or cloth pads. I bought a cup because I didn't like the idea of the chemical and my family has a history of cysts and fibroid. Although they come in a wrapper don't mistake that for sterile or even "sanitary". They're made in factories and women have even accidentally found mold on their tampons. How many of us have unknowingly put mold into our vaginas and right next to our cervix? I also wanted to save money which I have saved over $80 in the year that I've had my cup. And I have completely eliminated the waste of packaging, wrappers and applicators. Imagine if you saved all of that waste for a year and times that by just about all the women of the world. All of that is going to landfills and sitting there for years on end, or else absorbing into the ground. That's just me though. 3 years ago I would have been grossed out too. So who know, you might also get to the point in your life that the idea doesn't seem so strange.

      if you get a silicone cup (which like 90% of the cups on the market are) you can boil them, or soak them in a bleach solution, or soak them in hydrogen peroxide or even throw them in the dishwasher. All of those things will completely sanitize them (they use silicone for IV lines in hospitals) so you can get them utterly clean. Also if you get some staining a soak in a bleach solution will get your cup looking brand new

      I will try to answer you in the best english i can hahaha well, the ring around the edge of the cup is meant to "stuck" on the walls of your "vajayjay", it creates an "empty space" and will no drop. Do you know why period smells so bad? Because it makes contact with the germs in the air, THAT is nasty. That's why cups are so great, because you get ridd of that awfull smells, and it's really more sanitizing that a pad or a compres, and it's softer with the inside of your "vajayjay", and, it's your blood, it's natural. And if we are going to talk about "been sitting there for hours" it's the samen with pads and compres... even worst because it already had contact with air...

    Nevermind the method of filling the tampon. If the cup can fully accommodate a saturated tampon it means the cup can hold all the liquid that the tampon can PLUS the mass of the tampon itself. That's obviously more, which was the point.

  • @nowknow
    @nowknow 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Just because the cups have a larger capacity doesn't mean you shouldn't remove and rinse them less often. The leading cause of Toxic Shock Syndrome is remaining of menstrual discharge within the vagina. It is recommended that you remove and rinse your menstrual cup at least three times within a 24 hour period.

      Cups have not been linked to Tss. Tss is caused by the bacteria growing on the pad or tampon. Cups are made from medical grade silicone so they don't have harmful chemical to put into your body like a tampon. Menstrual blood is the blood circulating through your body the blood doesn't cause the tss so it can sit in your body because it's your blood.

    • @nowknow
      @nowknow 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The blood is discharge, which is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, Bacteria growing in the blood is what causes tss. The blood discharged is there to be removed, no longer supplied by healthy plasma and T cells.

    • @jpmoney8794
      @jpmoney8794 10 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      nowknow the cup forms a seal around your cervix. The blood is already a part of your body which makes it just fine. Tss has not been linked to cups. It is linked to tampons. If the blood needed to be immediately removed there would be no use for tampons. You can change a cup however often you want the max is 12 hours. Please do your research on cups before you shut them down.

I have a super heavy flow due to my hormones being messed up from my pregnancies and I can vouch for the fact that this is accurate and that I would trust a cup to hold more than any of the other forms of protection. I use the cup and a backup cloth pad. Some women do not need any backup, but I have such a heavy flow that I definitely do. It's FAR more comfortable than a tampon too. I can't wear tampons because they hurt me, but the cup feels fine.

Things have come along alway from our our grandmothers time of belts and pads....my mom was terrified of tampons when i was a teen in the 1980s now my friends daughter is terrified of the cups for her daughters....its all about education and understanding.

  • @OneTooMany00

    I will say this, blood is heavier than, water. So the water is thinner and goes through the tampon and pad more... Some blood gets soaked up, but not all of it. So to speak, the cup, the tampon, and the pad, better much go through the same amount with water. Blood is a different story, because it's thicker... Just had to point that out.
    I for one who tampons when I'm out and about, and pads at home.. I've never used a cup.

    It's not like anyone will see it, and tampons are dangerous because they leave fibres and dry out inside of you. The combined two can cause microscopic cuts where bacteria can enter your bloodstream. Cups don't have that risk because they don't absorb non-blood fluids and are smooth so they don't cut you.
    In the end, it's all personal preference.

    OK 1 issue I have, is that you are not educating people about tampons, the reason why tampons do not hold alot is because they are not to be worn for long hours as it can cause death. So they do not want to make a product that will hold over 8 hours of flow for that purpose. I could never use tampons, so I always used pads. The best pad out that that feels great is Always infinity pads. They are amazing. I am not sure how sanitary the cups are, this is probably why there is always a ton of blood in our women's bathroom at my job. They seem to be way too messy

    There are plenty places to buy cups online. Of you go to a cups official site or through a seller (the person that makes these videos sells some) if you go to some of her different cup reviews you can see the sites and hers as well.

    There's an adjustment period. You would just empty it every few hours and after awhile, you'll know how long you can go.

    Yea. You're not extremely bias at all. Lmfao. You forgot to mention that putting in, taking out and maintaining period cups is a disgusting process.

    When you poured the liquid over the pad you should have poured it all right in the middle instead of to the top and bottom because when you wear a pad you can't control where you bleed out. This is a helpful video and I will definitely consider switching!

  • @babygirladdy

    So basically, this demo (b/c of the flaws in the methods) is giving some who see it the impression that within the time THEY would normally "soak through" a tampon/pad, they would ALSO have to empty/clean/replace the cup. For people who go through these quickly due to a heavy flow - yes, this will give the impression that the cup would overflow just as much as ONE tampon/pad would for them b/c that's exactly what it's being compared to here.

      M Wilburn Is your body unsanitary because you wash your skin and reuse it everyday? Tampons can cause TSS (and yes, it can happen, a girl died of that a couple of years ago in my city) and pads are just disgusting. I never liked sitting in a pool of my own blood during a class. Cups will last the day without ever leaking and if you're intelligent enough, you'll wash them properly XD so NO nothing about these are unsanitary. This is my second day using a cup and I slept with it, did yoga, ran, it never leaked. And guess what, my trash can doesn't have that gross old blood smell. Blood just went byebye down the drain and i could put my washed, clean cup back in.
      Best thing I bought in my life so far.
      Plus, no more spending 20$ a week on tampons. Yipee!!

    I'm glad you found something that works for you, but honestly I think cup users give misleading info sometimes. I tried a cup and it would never get that full, it would always leak before then. So they may last up to 12 hours but most of the time they don't, and I personally don't think its worth it. They always exaggerate the amount they will hold compared to pads and tampons, but really all that means is that you change them more often. I just don't prefer the cups honestly.

    I was curious about the menstrual cup for a while, but I was afraid to spend so much money on a cup and shipping and everything. Well I recently found the disposable "instead cup" at the store so I tried them.... and omg. I don't think I CAN use tampon again. You don't even know. I can't WAIT to buy a longer-term cup!

    If the tampons are uncomfortable, there's a chance you're not putting them in correctly. You shouldn't even feel them when they are properly inserted. Also, I found that the plastic applicators are much nicer than the cardboard ones.

  • @FQMoyo

    I was thinking the same thing myself, but it doesn't matter because the saturated expanded tampon still took up less volume than the cup. I think the point was valid and the difference in numbers would be negligible, or immaterial.

    I agree with BeachBall. The Always brand is the best, the mesh on top of the pad makes sure your not sitting in "your filth" all day. And the over nights are also great, feels like I'm peeing and it catches it all in the morning no leaks. Which would be the time to change out the pads anyways.

    You should have filled the cup then lit the tampon in to show that the cup actually holds more, without the leak or you sneeze and it slips out factor tampons have.

  • @picsofneptunecity

    I also get super ultra heavy periods :(. I sometimes use the ultra super heavy tampons, and I also use cups. Honestly, the cup holds it for longer without leaking or expanding inside of you. The only downside is, you really don't want to leave it in too long because it can get difficult to remove without making a mess. Try taking it out in the shower for your first time - that really helped me! I haven't timed it, but it definitely lasts longer than tampons.
