Spoiler alert! This frog can't possibly be the right pet reptile for you. Poor guy. Stupid phylogenetics dashes the hopes of yet another species... But it might be the right pet amphibian for you, and that's still pretty good, right?
He hasn’t even done red eyed tree frogs, African dwarf frogs, or tiger salamanders yet. There’s a lot left to cover. We don’t want him running out of animals anytime soon.
The Whites tree frog is one of the best pets I've ever had. Mine actually got out and was lost for several days. I ended up finding him and he was pretty crusty but made a full recovery. They button down and make a mucus layer to survive droughts so I think that saved him. Also he clearly recognized me as his owner, whenever someone had him out and I was near he'd immediately jump to me. Every now and again him and the chameleon would get love pinkies as a treat. I always thought that was pretty neat. Great pet, 100% recommended.
I had several of these guys as pets when I was a kid, and still have fond memories of them. One of them actually managed to escape the enclosure and we couldn't find him and thought he was dead, then later on my mom went to get the vacuum cleaner out of the hall closet and found him sitting right on it, covered in dust but still alive even after at least several days without water.
Yes, this. Pudgy animals are the cutest, but most critters that are adorably rotund are actually obese, which is not adorable at all. It’s always so excellent to find a critter that looks that way by design, rather than circumstance. And may we all be so lucky to be so charming and content as one of these guys when we get old.
@@Tinyvalkyrie410 I know but I was more referring to the skin folds this frog has which makes it look pudgy. I am aware of the overfeeding problem but that is with a lot of animals so heck even humans have that problem
The whites tree frog is an arboreal species of amphibian (hence tree frog). It should be in a tank where it has more height rather than width as it will want to express its natural behaviour of climbing. You can keep it in a wider tank but make sure there is height as well, because this way the animal is most likely going to be less stressed.
Just picked up 2 baby whites tree frogs yesterday. Went in the store to get crickets and walked out with frogs lol, so of course i came to your videos to learn more about these little guys.
Omg, my dumpys are my best friends. Chubs, my boy, loves to climb on me, and he likes to be stroked between his eyes. (With wet, and meticulously clean hands of course), Karen, my smaller froggy isn't as social but she likes to eat worms from my hands. I also have a green Tree frog (Trevor) and a red eyed (Sage) and I almost never handle them. Trevor endures his check ups quite well, and stays still once I scoop him up, but I practically never touch Sage. They're also much less social, and climb away from me when I come near the enclosure. But I love all of my froggies dearly.
How do you cohab these frogs together? I bought a tank with a white tree frog and a red eyed tree frog and they were together and I just wanna make sure that that’s OK. Thank you

I had a common American toad as a pet for years. I swear it was able to differentiate me from the few other friends I'd have over to visit. I was able to have her on my lap, where as anyone else, she wanted to simply hop away. This is definitely a frog species I may look into in the future. Nice video btw, not just because it was informative, but because you're not annoying like most people I find online lol.

That's because amphibians have very permeable skin so you gotta make sure that your hands are very clean without chemicals and stuff, and if possible a little moist
Just thought I'd add that distilled water will not kill your frog. This is based on an old study and relates to the water leaching ions from the frog's skin. More recent studies have shown that there is ion exchange between the frog and the water and it reabsorbs anything it loses unless it has something very wrong with it health wise. A lot of people who keep tree frogs and dart frogs use distilled water with no adverse affects. Aside from that, a great video indeed 😊
Hi there! Just a quick question, I have Tourette's and I usually croak like frogs as one of my tics, will they react if they hear croaking? I really want to get one at some point 😅
Finally got two of my own WTF after years of research. Most observant and curious amphibians I’ve met and I’m so happy I get the chance to live with them and make sure they thrive.
So glad you covered the permeable skin......not just your hands...don't be spraying febreeze or any other type things like cologne, perfume, glade....and if you use hand sanitizers ( especially after covid), use unscented and make sure your hands are very dry......
I've owned one of these frogs for over 16 years now. In her youth Sticky Moon used to be able to actually lift the lid off the terrarium and go for adventures in our house. She was found under the fridge many times, and even once managed to somehow get outside during the Winter in upstate NY. I'm not proud of this she just wouldn't stop her escape attempts. She was lost for over a week and actually found outside in the wood pile under a tarp, completely white. I dethawed her under luke warm water and shes been happily eating crickits for over 10 years since then. We now keep a large rock on top of the lid just to make sure she can't muscle her way out anymore. I'm not sure if this is common for this type of frog but honestly Sticky Moon is a tank and a half. And yes she will bite your hand if it looks like feeding time.
I’ve interacted with one White’s tree frog my entire life and time in the hobby and it was by far, without a doubt, one of the coolest and best interactions with an animal I’ve had. They’re pretty great, from my extremely limited experience. The only reason I don’t have one is because I currently am not in a position to optimize space and get an automatic sprayer for the humidity and the like.
i use a humidity controller with a fogger for my Merauke BTS to keep the humidity right where it needs to be. the controller is meant for hydroponics but works great for what i need.
These frogs are insanely adaptable I'm in Australia and we have them in our Brisbane garden where they live in the roof downpipes. Contrary to popular belief they are NOT a rainforest species, although they may occasionally be found in rainforest, especially along the edges but they much prefer the drier eucalyptus woodlands that often border rainforest. Such a cool frog and so very common in most of the northern 2/3 of the continent.

Love the video! Just fyi whites tree frogs cannot eat mealworms or superworms because they have to much chitin which the frogs cannot digest. They also need ambient air temps of 80/85 during the day which is better achieved with a CHE (on a thermostat) then a heat pad. These guys are so cute! I just wanted to put that information out there for anyone who is thinking about getting some (I have 3 and they are awesome)

I just wanted to put that information out there for anyone who is thinking about getting some (I have 3 and they are awesome)
I love the addition of amphibians to this channel! I would love a fire bellied toad video in the future... I want to set up a big vivarium with isopods and springtails and everything at some point then get some.
I'm not a huge fan of the amphibians personally, but I'm glad to see them getting representation besides "that frog I found in my backyard and put in a fishbowl". That's what I thought keeping amphibians was like growing up.
