  • The Mexican arboreal alligator lizard (Abronia graminea) is one of the most beautiful lizards in the world. They look like tiny dragons of the trees. They are incredible. But is the Mexican alligator lizard the best pet lizard for you?

Abronia graminea should be 5/5 in my opinion. Super easy to care for indoors. They like room temp. Great eaters. Super inquisitive, intelligent, and friendly if handled. A little tricky to breed in my experience BUT the fact they give birth to live lizards and nots eggs is awesome. Oh and the non dropping prehensile tail! Love it.

Please do more on Abronia, Clint! There is so little good information for them out there, and there are so many species besides the green abronia that are critically in danger and its so important to keep a captive breeding populations.
My dream is to have breeding colonies in outdoor enclosures for as many insurance colonies of as many abronia species as possible.

Excuse me my name is Tony I'm 29 and from boring Oregon. I'm currently getting into breeding small time and these guys are something I've been looking into for a very very long time! Alligator lizards, crocodile skinks, beaded lizards and plated lizards! Those guys are just the few of the ones I'd like to get into and more knowledge on. Anyway does anyone here know a breader for these guys??? I'm going to pnwrs in Hillsboro Oregon on the 14th and would luv to bring one of these guys home to breed and populate and get to understand there eating breeding and habitat behavior!!! But every time I go to an expo I never have any luck finding one 🥺

Another candidate for most dragonlike lizard: the earless monitor. They look like tiny Smaugs! Would love to see a video on them sometime if you can find one to film with!

Thank you so much for this review, I wasn’t sure if I wanted one since “not reccomended for beginners” was on every site I looked at, but your review eased up those worries. I think I might have to get one of these beautiful lizards 🦎

The macro footage is something I like about this show that I never seem to find elsewhere. It is a must for any reptile video, imo, unless you don't have the tech, then I understand.

I saw these in a different video and loved em. Figured i had to check if you'd done a video about them. They are definately the new no. 1 placeholder on the 'reptiles i'd like to get someday' list. Love their behaviour, look and most importantly care requirments.
Finally they'll allow me to tell people i have alligators as pets ;-)

What a beautiful little creature! I have kept pet alligator lizards local to where I live off and on over the years (and they were incredibly docile, but I have seen super aggro ones too), and find them to be incredible pets but don't keep them anymore as I want them to stay wild. I can see a lot of the same mannerisms on these guys, they just LOOK intelligent. Beautiful animals, I seriously hope they stick around and don't become endangered, that would be absolutely heartbreaking.

Great video! One thing I’d like to mention is if you live in a dry and arid place like I do, glass tanks are recommended to hold humidity. Tall Exo Terra tanks provide great ventilation and maintain the high humidity levels these creatures need. Also, they drink TONS of water so be sure to mist a couple times a day

Definitely is on my list of someday reptiles. Thanks for always showing us some amazingly RAD animals, and even more importantly always being very honest and explicit about their care and status in the wild and what that means for private keepers and purchasing them. I know with this new bill the hobby is in danger... but this information is so important to both the animal and the validity of the reptile hobby and the ***responsible*** keepers and breeders who are a part of it.
