The funny part is that in the books, they even bring that up. Geralt deflects the crossbow bolt and then half of them are like "holy shit".

They were completely outclassed. Its a testament to the last guy's skill that he was able to block a few hits and stay alive for even a couple of seconds.

I love how people know that witchers have superhuman abilities and geralt is one of the most famous of them,yet everyone seems to be more then happy to fight him.
Lore is it's just arrogance. They hear stories and legends but you cant really comprehend how lethal he is unless you see it firsthand. That's why they fight him 1 on 1 its just pure adrenaline in the face of relizeing he's going to kill everyone of you

@@CB_here I've never read the books but I read somewhere that Geralt in the books doesn't use signs all that often, idk if true but it would explain why we don't see signs all that much in the show.

I know right , freaking awesome story. Though i wish they had done the love scene like it was in the book where renfi was waiting for geralt in his room in the tower, and had bought wine. Instead of the scene in the forest. Thats literally the only negative thing so far, everythkng else has be aaamazing.

@@lisamedcalf6986 well the show runner Lauren Hisrich said that they've based it on The Last Wish and Sword Of Destiny, but they have added and changed things for television. Personally I think they should have just focused on The Last Wish in this first season, and created a story that sticks all of the short stories together. But that's television for you , it's never gonna be a perfect adaptation. To be honest I never read the Game of Thrones books and really liked the series , bar some of the episodes in the last series.

This scene has such style. Switching sword hands and using a backhand grip normally is ridiculous in real life and not realistic at all, but Gerald does it so fluidly and the fighting is so stylized and dance-like that you really do believe it could be possible for Witchers.
no actually, switching hands in a HEMA setting does have some use if you learn how to switch hands quickly and lets you get into some binds an opponent may not be able to get out of

According to the books, Witchers are much faster than normal humans already... But when they drink their potions they become blisteringly fast. Geralt's fights against humans after drinking potions usually take just a second as they end in one swift cut. He killed Renfri's gang without potions...

The mystery to me is why half those thugs weren't running after he knocked a crossbow bolt out of the air. or sliced the first guys head in two. Each easy kill making it harder to understand. Almost all groups scarper when the leader or big guy goes down. Maybe a couple of "diehards" but otherwise.... I guess it would make screen fights a bit boring.

Interestingly some guys (I´m not sure if it were the ones from Adorea) tried it with (blunt) arrows and succeeded after some tries. So it may not be as unplausible as it seems at first - and those guys aren´t mutants with enhanced reflexes and perception.

For those that didn't read the books, Geralt was *very* sad that he killed all those people, and eventually (the one who sent them). So much so that he had to go to a temple of healing for a while to get it off his mind. The show kind of just glosses over this as if it was another day in the life of Geralt.

That's because he *wanted* to do this show very much. He almost went out of his way to audition for the role.
He's played all the games and read all the books. This was a passion project for him.

Wrong voice, pretty much weird panic attacks that Geralt does simply not do throughout the show (example when Dandelion and him were captured by Filavandrel - where Dandelion: "this is where we escape" and Geralt says "this is where we die" and moves maniacally, screams and roars - Geralt shouldn't have random panic attacks for absolutely no reason, especially not saying this is where we die where he doesn't even know tf is happening), or random anger outbreaks that are both badly acted out and unnatural, and plain weird for Geralt's character according to the books or very well continued games (scene with Dandelion after saving Villentretenmerth's baby for example), and so on. I understand that it's idiotic screenplay, directors, writers and so on blame for the most part, but Henry didn't help one bit with the situation. Completely missed Geralt's character and acted poorly. The role did't suit him one bit (not even physically).

I just realized that when Geralt uses the push spell (I don’t remember the name) the guys don’t fall down because they’re using shields, just like in the Witcher 3, I like smol details like that

Aard is a magical sign used by witchers. It is comprised of a telekinetic thrust that can stun, repel, knock down, or disarm opponents, as well as remove barriers and other objects.
And the door flies open like in the witcher 3
It can also be used to blow out candles, scare pedestrians shitless, move corpses out of your way, get rid of bees to loot honey and annoy the ever loving hell out of downers and ghouls

1:03 I love how subtle the sign usage is. It's not some overpowering epic magic with fireworks and glowing eyes and shit. Just a quick strategic blast that knocks his opponents off balance and probably scares the shit out of them.
In my head during every fight I made the same joke over and over "why isn't he spamming igni and qwen like every time I play Geralt?" I really like how they showed Axii a little after this scene, and how Geralt mostly just uses Aard in combat. I hope they show Igni and Yrden in the next season

and how smoothly he grabs the swords every time he kills one of them to throw it or stab the other one i always thought he started with 2 swords when he started fighting the first time i saw the scene.
One of the best one at a time fights you'll ever see. No more obvious sign a fight is coreographed than a one at a time fight with 17 opponents.

With new direction DC universe has turned, it's heartbreaking seeing Henry Cavill being sacked off, of the roles he has demonstrated he loves the most like Gerald and Sup's :(, it's palpable how much effort he puts into these charachters
The only disappointing thing about this scene is that it happens early in the season and you never really see this level of badassery again.

Half-swording is when you grab a part of the blade itself. It's a good way to get more flexibility out of a longer sword.

I remember seeing a comment somewhere where it basically said these guys are idiots because literally the first thing Geralt does is deflect a crossbow bolt which is no easy feat for humans. And yet they all happily tried to attack him.

What I love in this scene is the usage of the backhanded grip. Typically, wielding a sword like that is a death sentence. The fact that Geralt does it with such finesse is like a way of mocking Renfri's gang, like they're not worth his time.
Also, he switches between backhand and normal grip. While it's not exactly better, it might be distracting his opponents and looks cool af.

I think (think) he only backhands the silver sword, and one of the smaller blades from the meat puppets . . . I mean peasants.
Backhanding a steel longsword would be insanely hard, even with mutated super strength.
