I don’t think enough people realize just how rare original sound on railroad videos is pre-VHS era. Even most of the professionally shot stuff didn’t have it. And the sound quality here is fantastic!
Love the video! The 8mm film was one of my favorites to use back in the 70's & early 80's. Still have my whole set-up. You did a Fantastic job my friend!!!
Thanks Dave. Glad you enjoyed it. I still have all my old 8mm stuff as well. I know the projector still works, but not to sure of the camera. I bet good film would be impossable to find. Thanks for watching bud, and have a great evening...
Great stuff, Jack! And I loved hearing the munchkin chatting 2 minutes in with the van train rolling by! Reminded me of the times I took my kids with me to watch trains. Thanks for the post!
Thank you bisfit84, LOL. Isn't that GREAT! I forgot that was on there until I edited it. That munchkin was my son when he was about 2. Now he is 42, and he does what he was watching in this movie. He has worked for NS here in PA for may four years now, and can be seen anywhere between Pittsburg and Harrisburg. It sure has come full circle. Thanks for watching...
As usual Jack another great video with great vintage motive power. I love seeing all this old stuff! Gotta love that brace of GP30'S; SD45'S, EMD products were my favorite. Thanks for posting and have a blessed Labor Day weekend! - Balerio
Thank you bud. There are so many enjoying this old stuff, and I am so Bless that I can share it with all. Thank again Balerio for watching, and hope you habe a blessed Laboer Day weekend also.
Thanks for watching Richard, and glad you enjoyed it. There is a lot more older stuff in my collection, and hope you enjoy it as well. Thanks again, and thanks for watching...
Thanks for the quick reply. Talk about a roundabout route. My own guess is that the train went up to Buffalo and then headed toward Enola using the PRR Buffalo Duvivsion. Once again great to see the old GE and EMD units.
I enjoy these colorful years. While I love Conrail blue, it's nice to see how things were in the early years as Conrail was getting started and running a colorful collection of locomotives on decrepit track. Nothing wrong with the trains of today, but this was true railroading when containerization was still a bit of time away from becoming a reality.
Where I grew up in Wyoming, mi. I distinctly remember the train yard had conrail locomotives and rolling stock. I also remember it penn central vaguely. The PC Era I was pretty young but I had a lionel train a little older and bought a conrail car for it. Conrail was my favorite then Chessie. All in my hometown.
It's interesting how government regulations and meddling were a major factor in destroying those railroads, yet it was the government that pulled a viable system out of the wreckage. Doesn't seem to be much video on the internet, of the Conrail E8s when they were also blue, like the freight units. The Es were used on Business trains. Great video. My third time watching it.
Thanks Steven. Those were the good ole days. Yah, the OPEN was Oak Point - Enola. Not sure what route they took. They probably could sent it several different ways. Thanks for watching...
I started with Conrail in 1978. It was pretty raggedy back then but felt like family. The six axle Alco Centuries were amazing to hear but were out of service by 1980
Thanks Chris. Glad you are enjoying this older stuff. Hope to get some more oldies up sometime this week. Thanks for watching, and have a great Labor Day...
Hey Jack, Love your closing "Thanks for watching, and hope you enjoyed it. God Bless" Love the fact some people still believe in the one true way to Heaven. Anyway, loved this video as you probably imagined. Would love to go back in time and see this in real time with the camera equipment available today. Imagine a CR/PC/PC/EL lash up on what is now the CSX Riverline. It would be epic! Thanks for more vintage good stuff. God bless Jack and enjoy your Labor Day weekend. -Don
Thankyou brother. A time machine would be fantastic, and capture all that great stuff. Glad you are enjoying this old stuff, and I'm am sure Blessed I got to take it, and share it.Very true Don. The whole Bible is centered around the cross. Christ died on the cross to save EVERYONE from their sins. That is truely epic! and a show of a true love that God has for his people, sending his only Son. All people have to do is open the eyes of their heart. Its there between the pages of the Book. Blessed is the Lamb that shed His blood for our sins. AMEN?
Спасибо. Я взял эти видео со старой кинокамерой Kodak в 1977 и 1978. Спасибо за просмотр.Thank you. I took this video with an old movie camera Kodak in 1977 and 1978. Thank you for viewing.
6508 is a U25C. They had a sound all their own. I got a cab ride in the 6509 at Kearny, NJ. I was surprised when I saw that it had a wooden floor in the cab. Thanks for watching.
That camera is awesome! I love it when a super 8 camera has all the light go directly to the film with a completely separate viewfinder instead of cutting some of it off with a prism for the viewfinder! That camera looks like you could probably cut a notch on top for the 200 foot cartridges... Does that have an f 1.2 lens?
Not sure what the lense is. I'll have to dig it out later and look. It still works, and there is still a partially used cartrage in it still, and I have NO idea whats on it. LOL
Chassis check of PPR locamotives eighty million worth of locomotive in behind conrail international shipping rail RR as present power of conrail international 474 locamotives competition are The Clayton Act OSAC LLC
Conrail consolidated international shipping rail RR biding. For four billion in shipping rights CISR RR LLC there N an S or L an N and CSX there B an O were piked at reading an biding for haul
The fact that you got a wave from the crew of the caboose is amazing. Awesome video!
The crews were pretty friendly back then. You could usually count of someone waving as they pass. Thanks for watching...
I don’t think enough people realize just how rare original sound on railroad videos is pre-VHS era. Even most of the professionally shot stuff didn’t have it. And the sound quality here is fantastic!
Bitersweet... great memories that I wish I could do over..
Great video of a classic railroading era! Very well done!
Thanks John. Glad you enjoyed this old stuff.
jackmp294.5™ did you ever try to restore the super 8mm film
Love the video! The 8mm film was one of my favorites to use back in the 70's & early 80's. Still have my whole set-up.

That was a beautiful, freshly-painted GP30 towards the end of the clip. Liked the horns on those trains.
Thanks for posting.

Nice videos Jack, good to see those old EMD and GE SD units moving in CR and PC colors......thanks.
Thanks for watching Richard, and glad you enjoyed it. There is a lot more older stuff in my collection, and hope you enjoy it as well. Thanks again, and thanks for watching...
Great videos👍
Wow! Actual freight on the corridor at Princeton Jct. Those were the days when the NEC was fun to railfan.
Classic conrail and penn central😎
Thanks for the quick reply. Talk about a roundabout route. My own guess is that the train went up to Buffalo and then headed toward Enola using the PRR Buffalo Duvivsion. Once again great to see the old GE and EMD units.
love the twin geep 30's, another great video as usual!

Ie 100% Jessica. That was sure a neat time back then. Thanks for watching...
As a side note, there weren't any GEVO's either! We both know how CSX and many other Class 1's are with their GEVO's.
The caboose were also blue Same color blue as the locomotives
What about BNSF? BNSF has more GEVOs then every railroad combined @@JessicaKasumi1990

This video is great! Wonderful to see the older EMD's and GE's. The train @ Peekskill O PEN-5: Was that an Oak Point to Enola run?
Thanks Steven. Those were the good ole days. Yah, the OPEN was Oak Point - Enola. Not sure what route they took. They probably could sent it several different ways. Thanks for watching...

Man, I miss that sound of the old jointed rails, and trains still look weird to me without the caboose!
Hard to imagine jointed rail on a high speed main. But that was life abck in the 70's. Thanks for watching...
@ 4:03 I know exactly where that is. Beautiful spot. Grew up just a couple towns over.
Location?
@@ohioandnortheastern it says it on the right side of the screen
Great video Jack, always enjoy your stuff
Thanks Chris. Glad you are enjoying this older stuff. Hope to get some more oldies up sometime this week. Thanks for watching, and have a great Labor Day...
jackmp294.5™ nice to see what conrail was like in the late 1970
Fantastic!

jackmp294.5™ Got it brother. Right on.
You said Penn central twice. And you forgot reading railroad
Excellent video Jack.
Обалдеть как красиво. Где вы их достали такие старые записи. Очень красивое видео. КЛАСС.

jackmp294.5™ И ещё раз спасибо. Всё просто отлично.
@ 4:32, what model U- Boat is the 6508? A true beast!
6508 is a U25C. They had a sound all their own. I got a cab ride in the 6509 at Kearny, NJ. I was surprised when I saw that it had a wooden floor in the cab. Thanks for watching.
Awesome Jack!
Thanks Jeff. Glad you enjoyed it.
Your welcome!
The system was most definitely "black and blue" then, in more ways than one after the beating it took under Penn Central.
Lee Huff then eventually CSX and Norfolk southern started to take over conrail more
Jack, do you want to voice in my series? Also, what kind of locomotive do you want to be?
i MISS CONRAIL THEN AGAIN IM 24 LOL BUT I LIKE CONRAIL WAS BORN IN 93 SO DIDNT SEE MUCH OF IT
I never thought I'd say it. But I miss Conrail also. Thanks for watching.
I wonder how far the one engine went before someone told them their headlights weren’t on
4:16 What line is that? I think it's the River Line, but I'm not sure.
It is the river line
1:57, 2 tone American horn?
It's a RS3L
It was mutch colorful before with new York, new Haven and Hartford. Along with PRR, and new York central. It was fine, just the way it was.
I love super 8 sound cartridges! Did you do this with 50 foot cartridges or a 200?
They where 50' cartridges. Good for about 3-1/2 minutes of filming. Thats all that the camera would hold.
What camera did you use? Bell and howell? Elmo? Canon?
Used a Kodak Ektasound 240. www.ebay.com/itm/like/152211730306?rmvSB=true

Wouldn't that be one heck of a comeback! Thanks for watching...
