Black and blue perfectly sums up that railroad’s dire financial situation in the early days! Nice grabs here! First video I’ve seen of a Conrail blue GP30.

Train watching was a lot more interesting in the seventies. All the now fallen roads that have been absorbed in mergers . And of course, freight cars are for all consideration, free of that scourge, graffiti. Thanks for keeping rail heritage alive.

Very nice, it could get ugly with dull grimy Black units everywhere but still a lot of variety with three builders especially in the Northeast MA/RI/CT/NY/NJ/PA and "Loads" of 1st and 2nd Gen power !! 👍

Railfanning was much more interesting back then but it's important to remember that it was also a mess in the 70's. There's a reason so many companies were merging as fast as possible and abandoning every branch line they could trying to get some liquidity amidst the stranglehold of outdated government and union regulations.

Jack, what was living in the 1970s like as compared to today? I did hear about oil prices staggering and several conspiracy issues including the Watergate scandal, but what about the true comfort that existed back then where you cannot enjoy it anymore?
