- I hope you enjoy this older Conrail stuff filmed on Super 8mm sound movie film. The quality isn't the best, but at least its preserved history of early Conrail in the 1st year of its opperation.
Everything on this clip is either still in Penn Cental paint, or CR patched locomotives. I have other videos in my collection of "Conrail the Black & Blue Years", and "Conrail's Colorful Years" both are in three parts.
Thanks for watching, and hope you enjoyed it.
God Bless

The fact that you note where all these videos are taken propels this beyond 100% excellence.
Trains as I remember them, way back. Thanks for the memories.
It was a great era back then, and I do miss it. Thanks for watching... Jack
No need to be sorry, not even for a second, in my opinion this is EXCELLENT EXCELLENT work and these are times that we’ll never have back again so we have you to thank for sharing them with Railroad historians like me and everyone else who appreciates these videos. Thank You.
Rocking Grime with PC. Neat to see the old freight cars. I was in Junior High then.
It was neat seeing all those old cars, and with no graffiti. Thanks for watching...
Nice color (the greenery is prominant) in this old film. I don't mind the camera noise. I'm just glad stuff like this is here.
Favorite scene would be the mixed freight, with some GP40s, passing what looked like an old depot, with weedy, neglected track - a contrast to the mainline, and an interesting model railroad idea.
Railroading I saw as a teenager! The early transition period was interesting with the PC power, CR patches, and first glimpses of Conrail Blue. I noted GP38-2 #8045 at the head end of one train. That loco was a popular Ho scale mode offered by Athearn that I have and often run on my model railroad layout. Thanks for posting!
That was a great time Ralph, and it will be missed. I believe I have one of those GP38's on my PC layout as well. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for more coming soon.
Penn central ordered GP38-2s? I'm confused. I thought they didn't and all of their equipment came from the Pennsylvania and the NYC.
@@MystiCmeshtool Here's a Wiki article for what its worth noting the PC purchased 223 GP38-2s that later kept their same numbers (7940-8162) as part of Conrail.

@@RalphPCvids oh, thanks.
I remember some of these trains being ex-EL like PO-98, NY-74, others. Bittersweet memories for EL fans like me , but still fantastic that you had the opportunity to get this stuff onto film! Thanks Jack!!
Sure glad I did get it on film. Its hard to find classic old stuff like this. Thanks for watching...
Great video. Thank you for posting it.
Yes, a beautiful chronicle. Goosebumps. Thank you was nice to watch.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching my friend, and greetings from the states.
It was the best of times.. Love it. I'll echo Mr Conklin. Please keep it coming!.
Will do John. I'll see if I can work on a few more this week. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for some more classics. Jack
Can you please upload more i miss your videos
I'll have to head back to the editing room CG, and get some more put up. Thanks for watching...
Thank you man
Any luck
really nice video
Thank you Jack your videos are the best. It looks like you spent a good amount of time in my neck of the woods in Jersey.
Thanks Jay, glad you enjoyed the videos. I was born and raised in northern New Jersey. I moved to SW PA in 1979, where I am to this day. Thats why I have a good amount of stuff from NJ. Thanks for watching...
Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it. Sure do like the sounds!
Excellent video. I come back to watch your videos whenever I can, and I never get tired of them. As someone who watches the trains in Ridgefield Park, it's interesting to see the difference in the way the area looks now compared to the scene in this video. It was also interesting to see the Conrail trains in Peekskill.
Keep coming back. There is plenty more to see. LOL Glad your enjoying this old stuff, and thanks for watching...
It’s amazing that at least one New York Central painted locomotive made it to Conrail. I thought Penn Central was thorough in repainting the locomotives at least. I’m glad they were not.
Great stuff!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks bud. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching...
AWESOME stuff Jack, please keep it coming!
Will do Don! There is lots more of this stuff that needs edited. Little by little, I'll get to it. Thanks for watching brother, and God Bless...
Great stuff as always Jack!
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching...
Great job thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching...
Great video 👍🏼
Thanks Alex. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching.
Wish there was more on the west end around Elkhart and Toledo.
Don't see to much out that way, if anything.
Great clips as always! I was wondering, do you have any footage of trains on the S-Line in NC/VA back in its day? I've got an intense interest in that line and was hoping you had something of that
I would like to see some of that myself. I now live in the Wake County area and wish I could have been around back in the SCL days.
One could say that those were the black and blue years on more than one level, as they were trying to rebuild after the Penn Central disaster.
At 8:06, did anyone else catch the PC/ NYC green door on the Pennsylvania boxcar? Indicicitave of how "black and blue" the system was after Penn Central.
Hello Jack, It's been long time no see your video. I've been your subscription for long periods of time. Hopefully you remember me. I'm Deaf and loves railroad. Your bell isn't working? Please let me know. Thanks, John
Happy New Year 2018 to you and your family/friends. 🍻 GOD BLESS AMERICA
Happy New Year to you and the family as well JDF. Hope you are doing well, and yes, its been a while. Great to hear from you, and thanks for watching. God Bless our troops, and God Bless the United States of America...
Locomotives were black and some boxcar and caboose were green
Ah the 1970's. Railroad mergers and bad/unreliable videography equipment from Kodak! :-)
Please don’t block me for this. I know you might not be interested and I think you know these guys already. There’s a channel called John Pechulis and his company restores 8mm film to superbly high quality. You’ve got exclusive film.
Yah Alex. I know John. He is one of my FB friends. A lot of my video was redone by Charles Smiley from CSPmovies.com. No worries. I would never block you for that suggestion, and thanks.
Wow i remember the old days I was in high school then and wanted to work at Bethlehem steel but thanks to the Reagan era they closed when I was a senior in high school that made me sick to watch how the government destroyed our industrial power and gave way to China just sick I wanted to work for the railroad as well like the Erie lackawanna but like the demise of the steel industry support industry suffers so did the rail industry sad it may be but true I lucked out in 1990 with conrail that was the greatest employer I ever had till csx then it was the end csx is not a good employer to work for they don’t care about the employee not at all I’m now retired now and it’s sad how things are today and Obama’s positive train controle. Made things worse railroading today is not railroading at all it’s just transportation and that’s all it is railroading in true spirit is now dead and gone thanks to politics and greedy management also technology killed the railroad spirit and true railroader and engineers as well todays new railroader are not real true railroad men they are book and computer geek railroaders that don’t even know how and can’t use straight air on a train now you can’t say that’s their. Fault for not getting the proper training on how to but with trip optemiser and company rules as well as positive train controle how can they be the best of the best real railroaders are the ones that was there before the high tech computers came in the game and ran the railroad without the gimmicks that’s in place today we ran trains by our smarts and skills without the governments help and the high tech Computer garbage that is now in place today
