That 3rd bike shop is a bloody legend.. If that was me I'd name drop them to everyone I know as thanks.
I love hearing about the ultra rough badass tough guys who do what they can to take care of others.
A real man knows how to show compassion without getting self conscious (even if that compassion involves loud swearing :P).. there is nothing tough about making fun of others.
I had a similar experience once when I was trying to sell my last bike, just needed a roadworthy and service, was feeling lazy so figured I'd pay for both at once rather than servicing it myself.. and the first shop I went to, helmet in hand, the guy was super condescending and basically pushed me out before I could say why I was there just like Moog's story. He seemed to assume I would be bringing in a cheap broken scooter to his 'fancy' harley and customs shop and just didn't care to talk to me.
Second place I go to, full of both street and custom built race bikes from Japan, Italy, Germany, was a small place with only a few people running it but many ongoing projects. Owner meets me in the driveway, I say I'm looking for a quick oil change and a roadworthy to sell it. He just nodded and asked what I was bringing in, as you would expect from a professional.. So I turned and pointed to the bike parked out on the street and he immediately perked up - was a Buell 1125r and he seemed genuinely excited to look over it as they're quite rare here. He gave me an up front dollar figure for the work, showed me where a nearby cafe was and said to come back in 45min. Wasn't even expecting to get a booking same day but as it was a quick job he was happy to do it immediately.
Sure enough barely more than half an hour later he rolls back into the shop on the bike and I follow him in, and we chatted about exotic bikes and the quirks of Buells for nearly another 10 mins before we parted ways.
For reference to any Brisbanites - Nippon Performance at the Gabba. Been a few years now since I was there but the consistent 5 star reviews speak for themselves, dude's a legend.

@@MotoCat91 yep, that third bike shop was the one I worked at. Sadly, it no longer exists. Original owner sold it to the bald bikie looking dude. And I think he’s now retired. I had to leave the shop sadly, as I had a few things go wrong health wise, followed by a bike accident that left me learning to walk again, followed by a divorce, and so on. But I remember Jay being a good boss and shop manager when I was at that shop in Alexandria. He looked after everyone.

when you lube up your chain, I suggest you spray the inside of your chain where it runs towards the engine. Then you have several benefits: 1. your not spraying towards your wheels 2. the lube "travels" through your chain by centrifugal force instead of being flung of right away. 3. your rear sprocket will be way less messy. Last but not least do it after riding instead of before. The chain will be warm and the lube will spread much better and the solvents will evaporate until you ride the next time. Again preventing the lube being flung of right away.

I have a lot of clothes that I have had for over 15 years, some kinda busted (like his hoodie), some still in decent shape, but I just can't get myself to get rid of it. A Ford Escort alternator belt driven to the flywheel would power two 40W halogen headlights for nightime dirt excursions. Great memories of rolling up to the local hole-in-the-wall at 3am in a bronze Cortina with two chicken chasers leaking petrol onto the roof and having burgers with the police that had spent half the night chasing us round the forest!

As a business owner you should be trying to connect with just about everyone that walks in because its not just their future custom but the custom of their friends and their family when they leave the store with a positive experience.
If doing that small job means another 5 or 6 people walk through the door with more work for you as result of that guy recommending your services then you have done a great job.
I used to do custom system builds and PC repairs as a side hustle a few years back but i stopped because getting parts in was becoming a headache due to the hardware shortages. Dealing with it and paying the silly inflated prices and trying to source other parts just wasnt worth the hassle so I shuttered it.
This was about 3 or 4 years ago and im still getting random phone calls from people who got my number from someone else asking if i still do repairs and system builds.

Suspension upgrades were done by importing a few Honda Astrea (front end, disc conversion, rear shocks, swing arm and 2 seater).
