- This song hits harder because of what we are experiencing now , I am Romanian as you know and I am preety close to the subject. The most important thing to remember is that we do not have to hate the people of one country for the horrible decisions the government is taking.
My heart goes to everyone fleeing or fighting in Ukraina.

This is the one Jinjer song that does bring a tear to my eye. While I was in the military I served in 3 combat areas in Kuwait and in Iraq. There is nothing pretty about war. I believe part of the song takes a child'a perspective of the conflict, children wondering about what they are seeing and hearing and how they try to make sense of it.

I’ve watched many of your reactions, so I’m not sure how I missed this one when it was new. But you are clearly a human being blessed with immense empathy and compassion, and it’s plain to see how angry and sad this song made you. your emotional response was so genuine and deeply felt that I was barely able to continue watching at times. Your chin kept doing that thing where I could see you were doing everything possible not to burst into tears - I was right there with you 😢
I have never experienced war in my life and this song makes me emotional. I can't imagine how hard it hits for people who grew up or escaped conflict from where they were born.

I agree with Bisscute about this situation making your blood boil with anger. I feel a helpless frustration. All I keep thinking is stop! stop! stop! Why can't this Stop! There's been too much loss and heartbreak. The courage of the Ukrainian people has been amazing. Putin is a monster. The truth is being severely supressed in Russia now. Russians that are speaking out against the war are being punished.
I hope this unjustified war on Ukraine can be stopped soon.

This band has been soooo connected, blessed, and cursed by War their entire career.
Here's something I've always wondered about this music video: Tatiana has four distinct looks
The beginning with the black top, the teaparty look with the pigtails and business attire, the beggy look with the beanie, and the more athletic version with the wavy hair.
I've always wondered if the first look is supposed to represent a Soldier, the teaparty costume was supposed to represent the government, the third look represents the refugees of Ukraine, but I can't figure out what the fourth look would represent?
Maybe the fourth look represents Tatiana as a woman and a band member.

It's sad that this was written about a war in 2014 and it is now relevant again. Those of us lucky enough to have never experienced war should remember that we are the privileged ones.
Tatiana said she couldn't write another war song. I think it hurts too much. She said it was harder than usual to tour because they were playing Home Back, and that song takes a lot out of her with every performance. You can see how it hurts her to sing it. But it's an important song, so they still do it. But I don't believe there will be any new songs about the war.
With that said, there are some other earlier songs that deal with the situation, most notably "When Two Empires Collide."
I know this is an older reaction, but I’ve been against the war in Ukraine from the beginning. I feel that lies were told leading up to it, and false reassurances were given. Then as I read more about it as the months passed, I was horrified by the reports coming out. That homes and power supplies have been destroyed. Winter has set in and people are without heat and power. Such purely heartless acts of destruction. So I think it’s entirely understandable, and human, to feel powerful emotions about something so awful.

The band is orrigianly from Horlovka which was heavily involved in the fighting from the beginning.
I think the line "this is war" is a direct response to people referring it to a "conflict" or "like a war",.. I've heard Tati in many interviews state "it isn't like a war, it is a war". Too many people want to make it sound OK and they want to make it clear, this is a war.
Great reaction and thoughts over this complicated topic Biss. It's a powerful song for this time, I hope things get better soon for Ukraine, and this stupid conflict just stops for good. War is never the answer.

@@sergragnar9452 It's a shitty situation, but no country is going to accept armed separatists taking over a region of the country & demanding to be recognized as an independent state aligned with a powerful, belligerent neighboring state, particularly when the separatists are supported by that neighbor. Ukraine has deemed the separatists to be terrorists, & like it or not, any country would do likewise under similar circumstances. Ukraine has effectively been at war with Russia since 2014. Neither side is angelic, but Russia has been the aggressor throughout.

I think you explained the horrors of war quite well. Too many, especially here in the USA, tend to jump to conclusions and condemnation whiteout knowing what happened in the past let alone what precipitated the current situation.
Eugene has a post out about how war is not the answer. You are correct about where Jinjer is originally from and, I believe, they have even been accused of certain things in the past based on where they originated (such as not being supportive enough of Ukraine even though the Ukrainian government was attacking the area of Ukraine where they began. (they got a lot of push back from a local interviewer about supporting Ukraine and condemning Russia I believe, and that was before the current situation, but their roots are from an area that haste traditionally been more supportive of Russia even while being Ukrainian)
No matter what side of a conflict you fall on, everyone can condemn war itself.
I just wish people would actually do their research before condemning a whole group (especially those here in the US).

I'd also guess you know nothing about the Ukraine, it's history, and the struggles it has been going through for at least seven years.
As for disclosure itself, can you prove the interviewer was Russian and not Ukrainian? I think not.
What's the real point? War is hell and not a good idea. Much better to solve problems through diplomacy. That said Jinjer fled the East of Ukraine BECAUSE of the Ukrainian on Ukrainian fighting going on there. They even made a video about that conflict called Home Back.
Jinjer was interviewed on a Ukrainian talkshow and Tati mentioned it was uncomfortable because the interviewer kept trying to get her to denounce Russia. She wasn't ready to go there. THAT is the interview I was referencing. The interview was well before the current situation escalated.
I also never claimed to know exactly what she or the rest of the band feels (like you did) I simply stated that Tati talked about that interview in another interview. I also stated that, like any sane person, the band thinks war is not the answer.

The 2014 conflict was Ukrainians versus Ukrainian separatists. There are claims that the separatists numbers were bolstered by actual Russians and even some that say Russian troops would resign their commissions from the army in order to go fight in Ukraine so that Putin could keep his hands clean.
Your assumption that it was simply Putin against Ukraine makes you look like an ass but you did say that's what assumptions do.
This book writer is done arguing with someone that "knows it all". Your assumptions are why I have a problem with so many in the US that feel the need to vilify a country and buy every narrative they are sold. The reason you can sell me any bridge is because you bought it first. No thanks.

Even though this was written about the chronic fighting with Russian-backed separatists in their homeland of the Donetsk region in Eastern Ukraine, the meaning and impact of the lyrics and visuals obviously has exponentially increased since Putin's brutal and illegal all-out invasion of the country.
