    **Update on activation issues**
    Apparently the issue lies with my particular phone's security settings in regards to wifi-direct connections.
    My friend who has almost the same phone (international edition) was able to activate everything just fine.
    So if you have issues, its more likely your phone than your xbox. Just try another device to activate and you should be good. Still annoying as heck but hey what'cha going to do? :)

    Wow. I really expected them to have sanded the thing to oblivion. I found one myself and I’m praying it’s in that good a shape.

      Yeah maybe since they are so uncommon they treat these like gold knowing they get top dollar for it. Poor guy that traded it in probably got $20 and free copy of Madden '06 🤣

    I dont recall needing the app to setup, i think you can just pick setup without phone

    • @vc561
      @vc561  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure on Xbox one you didn't need the app either.
      support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/getting-started-set-up/set-up-new-system
      Xsx mentions the app in step3
      support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/getting-started-set-up/set-up-new-series-x-s but then later on it lets you use the controller if you like. It's convoluted for sure.
      For buying a new console most people just want to play the darn game and not fuss about with this extra garbage.
      I miss the 360 in that regard

  • @ogkratos1179
    @ogkratos1179 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This setup was crazy, i had the option to skip using the app and it took my 5 minutes at the most.

    • @vc561
      @vc561  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah idk why it was screwing up on the phone app. My guess is somehow I had a security setting disallowing wifi direct connection.
      My friend who bought this Xbox has practically the same version phone (it's the worldwide version) and setup went through just fine.
      It's a frivolous feature that's unnecessary. I just want to play games gosh darn it! 😜

    So going refurbished the best bet would be straight from Microsoft store? Cause I recently got mine and I'm watching all kinds of reviews and unboxing. Any tips or updates on your experience with this console would be very appreciated.

    • @vc561
      @vc561  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have not purchased refurb from Microsoft themselves, but if it's like my prior purchases from others like Dell & Apple, it should be damn near mint unless they specifically state otherwise
      If I had the choice between the two for an Xbox (GameStop or Microsoft) refurbished, I'd go Microsoft if possible.

    • @vc561
      @vc561  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To further add, no my friend that now owns the console hasn't had any issues with it and is quite happy given the circumstances of how hard it is to grab one

      Glad I could help someone out. I Microsoft is selling them refurbished themselves but they make you bundle it with at minimum 3 month gamepass subscription for $45. Optional warranty is another $50 if that puts you more at ease

    I just got an Xbox series x from Gamestop refurbished as well. Fedex destroyed the box but Gamestop packed it well enough to survive.
    You could tell previous owner had dropped it on its corner, and had changed disks so many times they wore the plastic down near the drive.
    A screw was loose and bouncing around inside, luckily it came out. Light scratches on the unit but I purchased a skin that should take care of that.
    Overall kinda iffy experience, for only $40 less than new I never would have purchased this if new one were actually available.

    Did you opt for 1 or 2 year warranty?

    • @vc561
      @vc561  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No warranty as this wasn't purchased for myself but a friend of mine. He has reported no issues at all.
      Personally I would opt for the warranty especially for used/refurb. New systems come with a 1 yr manufacturer warranty. Refurb systems from the Microsoft store is 90 days. I think GameStop is only 30 days but don't quote me on that

    • @vc561
      @vc561  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally i would buy a warranty at least for a year if buying preown/refurb.
      If you have pets that shed hair, get the warranty. No matter how clean you are, pet hair gets sucked into the intakes and stifles air flow and eventually systems overheat and need service (ps4 was notorious for this)
      If you have 30 days to return it, leave it on for a few hrs each day, play it much as you can, fill the drive up with games anything to stress it, etc.
