- Is the Bul Armory 1911 a great 1911 for the price, or is it just an overall great 1911? Yes, I have an opinion.

Been looking at these guys for a while. I went with my EDC X9, so somewhat redundant, but have liked the craftsmanship I have seen on them. Great review.
Tommy, I prefer my EDC X9 for carry - it's lighter and more concealable. But it's also more than 3 times the price of this Bul Armory. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Just bought the Commander 9mm, shot it for the 1st time last night. For the $$$, can't be beat! Ordered a Dawson front fiber optic sight and a Wilson magwell. This is every bit as nice as my Wilson Combat Experior in 9mm at 1/3 the cost.

I did a TON of research online when looking for another 45ACP 5" 1911 and picked up the Magnum Research 1911G made by the same company. This gun is much better than any of the Para's, Kimbers, and others I've owned other than an STI I owned 20 years ago. I also own an Israeli made IWI AR 12.5 pistol that blows away the other manufacturers. It's a no frills, straight shooter than has never stove piped on me after 1000's of rounds. The problem is finding these, which took some work but was well worth it. With some practice, hitting the plates at 50 yards was no problem. EXCELLENT GUN!

I saw this gun for the first time last Summer.Very nice looking 1911.How easy the slide went back impressed me the most.About all 1911's feel good in your hand.This gun comes with some nice grips,just wish Somebody would make 1911's geared towards Lefthanded shooters.Thank God Glock has thought about Lefthanded shooters.Wish Glock had been making Gen 5's when I bought my Gen 4.A call out to Sig for making the P365 ambidextrous.I have one and it's the best feeling gun that I own.Maybe someday I might own a 1911.The Bul 1911 is a well made gun though but hard to find.

I have a Lyman digital trigger gauge, and just weight out 5lbs of water on a postal scale, and then hang it from the gauge. I just did a Gun Deals search for Bul 1911’s, and they’re sold out online. Good Follow Up! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Frank, thanks for the info. If I were really interested in precise trigger measurements, I would buy a trigger weight set, but I'm comfortable with "close enough". As to Bul Armory availability, they seem to sell as fast as dealers can put them on display. I only hope Bul doesn't use that as an excuse to raise the prices.
I own the Magnum Research 1911 in 10mm made by Bul. It is the best value in a 1911 that I have found. It even comes in a two tone.
That 10mm is a little hard to find, but the price is certainly attractive. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I hated those black factory sights and replaced them immediately. I had to call Magnum Research to make sure I got the right ones. The gunsmith at Magnum Research suggested the Tru Glo Tritium sights. The right ones are .260" front and the rear is .450" in the rear. They are perfect. I have the Commander version in .45 ACP.
Sights are a personal preference, dependent on what one is use to and the purpose of the gun. For close-up target acquisition and "close enough" accuracy, a good fiber optic or gold bead front is great. But for me, nothing beats good black sights for precision. Nice review , I'm a fan of BUL. I could compare it to other 1911s but instead I'll just say it's a high quality manufacturer and I believe one shall definitely get a very well made pistol for the price point. Ask and you shall receive LOL. I was tracking a commander size one myself to no avail. I ended up buying a Tisas carry. I’m pretty impressed with the Tisas for the price.
I have the 45 acp undercover and government magnum research desert eagle variations, they are much more accurate for me than my springfield or sig 1911’s.
Nice pistol. Never seen a Bul in my neighborhood. Trigger pull matters a lot. Thank you for measuring and sharing the trigger pull weight. Tapered front sight is an elegant touch. Was the mag well beveled at all? Excellent review. Thanks!
Thinman, I had "magwell" in my notes, but skipped over it. It is pretty typical 1911 - functional, but nothing special.
Great video. Any experience with/opinions on the Bul 5"EDC or Trophy models? Those are ones I'm considering.
Just bought one and the mags have nose dived and failed to lock. I have contacted Bul so we'll see. Fit and finish are outstanding hope I can get it to run.
Try mags from either Wilson Combat (my first choice), or Tripp Research.
This or a Springfield Armory Ronin 1911 in 9mm. That is the Huge competition in my opinion? As far as 45ACP it is the Springfield Armory Ronin again or the Springfield Armory Garrison, there are also a couple Kimber 1911s and I think one Colt 1911 to consider. Bul is just Hebrew slang for bullseye or a direct hit, pronounced the same as bull.

I have this gun in Commander size. It compares well with Dan Wesson Guardian and about 600d less expensive.
I would put the Bul Armory 1911 line up against Dan Wesson any day, if it weren't for the MIM parts. But considering the price difference, I'll live with the occasional MIM part.

Had my hopes to find one in mid mi yesterday with no luck. Have several magnum research bul desert eagle 1911’s in 45 acp (G and U) and wanted a 9mm to add to the collection. I will continue my search, can do.
They are flying off the shelves at my LGS about as fast as they come in, and there aren't many on Gunbroker.

bul in hebrew is actually "spot on", "right on target", and is literally derived from the english word "bullseye". just fyi :)

I wish they would come out with some alloy frames.
So do I. The Ultra is the only Bul I can find with an alloy frame, but that also has a 3.25" barrel. Maybe someday.....

I need to spend some time finding what to feed it, other than Federal HST, to get better accuracy, but considering it does shoot decent groups with 124gr HST, there must be some other combination that works well for it. And I need to bench rest it. But I do like they way it feels and I love the trigger. As always, thanks for watching and commenting.
I bought the 3" lightweight 45 for carry, I think I paid 800.00. Sent it out even before shooting it to have it two toned and other upgrades with a bunch of internal and external forged wilson parts. Needless to say that 800.00 dollar gun is now about 1600.00 but it's absolutely perfect. Highly recommend bul armory, puts my colts and Springfields to shame.

How’s the reliability sir? It’s been said that a 9mm 1911 is not as reliable as a 45acp 1911. I’m thinking of getting this particular 1911 as my very 1st 1911. I value your opinion sir.
I haven't had one failure with this gun. I have a couple other 9mm 1911s that have run well north of 1,000 rounds without a failure, so 9mm in a good, modern 1911 doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.
I’d like to try a bul. I can’t get them to send a T&E out though
I WISH my channel was big enough to get T&E guns. I've spent a LOT of my money on guns, not to mention ammo. I'm lucky to piggyback on another channel for the occasional T&E gun, but they are few and far between.

Wilson Combat mags are my go-to. They have never let me down and the Wilson Combat website shows they are in stock. I have also had very good luck purchasing from Gun Mag Warehouse, but I prefer to stick with Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, or Tripp Research Cobra mags.
I have a Bul government in 9mm and a Sas2 SL i love them both a really good gun! Love the review you sound like hickok =)

Beautiful gun for sure. I'd have to install some tritium/fiber optic sights on it though.
It depends on the intended use. For precision range use, black on black sights are my favorite. But hi-vis sights may work better for some for quick shooting. Thanks for watching.
Look at the bottom left side of the magazine, it should have mec gar imprinted into the steel. I'm sorry to disagree with you, but the 45 acp is identical to the 9mm in every way except caliber. The bull barrel, guide rod, fit and finish, etc are the same. I don't know about the sights anymore, I'd have to find them again. I realized that I do not like black on black sights because my vision is blurry and I can't see well enough with black on black on black. The colored dots of any kind help me to center everything. Craig, as always, I appreciate your input. The only writing visible on my mags is "1911 9mm". The look like MecGar quality, but no brand is visible.
As to the barrel, the Bul Armory website says the Government .45 is a bushing barrel, but the 9mm and .45 Commander pistols are both bull barrel.
@@RidersRange I find that manufacturers don't always list everything they sell. Which is sad, someone may be looking for something specific and not find it. I can't attach photos, but I assure you they are the same. Both my 9mm and 45 acp mags are marked mec gar. Maybe I'm just special, lol
Craig, thanks for the added info. Probably a different batch of mags made it into the inventory without the corporate stamp. As to the bull barrel .45, it wouldn't surprise me that some products make it to the dealers that aren't in the catalog. When I do a review, I can only go from personal experience and what I can find on the web, so I'm bound to miss some of the variations.
In my opinion manufacturer get the message about sending out cheap mags and without omitting to being cheap corrected the issue . Buying a 1100.00 dollor pistol that has feeding issues no doubt had bad reviews flying. I know it had me making calls !
When they make a Commander-size 1911 with an ALUMINUM frame, I'll buy one.
They have a Commander-size 9 and .45, but on steel frames. The only one on an aluminum frame, as far as I know, is the Ultra on an Officer-size frame with 3.25" barrel.
@@RidersRange I have a Ronin Operator in 9mm. It has an aluminum frame. But it isn't an Emissary. Sigh....
Those are MecGar mags. My Alchemy came with the exact mags.

Everyone that Ive heard over the years all have called it BULL like the animal including the people that work at the Bul booths so I guess Im going with that.

Whats your thoughts? Absolutely the best 9mm round to me is 124+p speergolddot is used in duty-weapons by the New York City Police, Georgia State Troopers, among hundreds of thousands other Police, State Troopers, County And Sheriff's Departments, Federal Law Enforcement nationwide as well as Armed Security Agents/Guards/Officer's.
Not sure if the military uses this round though. I use this as my self defense, street defense, Armed security officer, home defense round. In a threatening situation this round I'm confident will stop 4 legged threats as well , but hopefully I NEVER find out. A 9mm 147+p+ Hardcast from Buffalo Bore killed a charging threatening grizzly bear in Alaska by a tour guide who only had a 9mm on him during the unexpected dangerous encounter
and even though I don't hunt im confident that the 124+p speergolddot can stop small-medium game such as (coyotes, black bear-(maybe), wolves, dangerous wild dogs, hogs, etc..etc.. I love how this round looks and the design and look of the shell and bullet seems thicker and more bigger from other 9mm ammo so im thankful to speergolddot for making one heck of a round best 9mm in my personal opinion.
Al, I've read good things about the Gold Dot 9mm, but I haven't tried it. My supply of Federal 124gr HST and 124gr Punch, along with my Remington 147gr Golden Sabers is dwindling, so I may have to branch out. Thanks for watching and adding that info.

For black, I believe you have to go up to their "EDC" model, though that has a rail and a magwell, so it's probably priced higher.

Seems hard to justify the price when you see all you get with the Taurus PT1911 for hundreds less. The Taurus is LOADED!
The PT1911 is loaded with features (I had one and reviewed that in Part 4 of The Great Affordable 1911 Series), but the fit, workmanship and trigger are no match for the Bul.

Having owned and shot both, I definitely feel the price difference for a Bul Armory over a Taurus PT1911 is worth it. Now, is the additional $600 or so for a dan Wesson worth it compared to a Bul Armory? Hmmm.......

I've been looking for one of this online for a while with no luck, how in the world can I get my hands on one of these?
Finding one marketed under the name "Bul" these days is tough. There is a pre-owned one on Gunbroker this morning, but you may also look for Magnum Research 1911. They are made by Bul Armory and actually say "Bul LTD Made in Israel" on the frame. Same gun, different brand.
@@RidersRange I got mine from their distributer in Miami Florida, shipped to my FFL this week. I went to their main website first which gives you the choice of Israel, global, USA. From there I went to the USA site which is their Miami distributer. Also saw on their Facebook page that if you change the grips out to an aftermarket brand it voids their warranty, which I was surprised to see.

I guess for a gun in this price range you'd have to expect the odd MIM part...even a $1700 Springfeild TRP has the odd MIM part...jut "fitted better"....but if the idea is to get a gun for "plinking a tthe range".....(no one actually wants to be in a "defensive shooting scenario"...if sane...so much could go wrong during/after....not a "rabbit hole" any one should want to go down....)why i don't believe in CCW)...plus if you're "carrying" you're always "on edge"..what kind of life is that...feeling you're never safe unless "carrying"..even ThEN people who "cary" don't truly feel safe...)...
Like to see you compare this gun to a $40000 "Custom" and give us your honest opinion...Is the $40000 1911 WORTH the extra $30000 plus?? :)) Did it even improove or "ALLOW" you to shoot even a smidge better? REALLY. I doubt it :)) I think you pay for the cache and the "cosmetics (exterial teel work)"..

In my original 22-part series (The Great Affordable 1911 Series, comparing 44 different 1911 pistols two at a time) I did several comparisons between budget and mid-grade pistols. Spending more money didn't always improve performance, but usually did offer more refinement. As to concealed carry, I have been carrying for 50 years (38 years in law enforcement), and I never feel "on edge". My concealed pistol is just part of my daily attire, just as is a quality hand-held flashlight and my OC spray. I'm not paranoid, just prepared.
