I just bought mine in .45 caliber this past weekend and am looking forward to shooting it. Super smooth out of the box and i can find no flaws with it. Great video !
I bought the magnum research 1911c it's made by bul. Fantastic gun super smooth slide action and factory trigger pull weight of 3 to 3 and a half pounds.
“Expecting this to exceed $2,000...” I know what you mean, Robbie. There’s some real high end 1911s out there that do exceed that, and Bul Armory is right there in quality and build. It’s an amazing value. The slide is like butter, the fitting I thought, was hand-lapped, the spring, bull barrel, checkering, grips... even the trigger, it all screams custom. Dan Wesson is a step below this in quality and fit but sells for $1,000 more. Amazing value and a great review.
It's nice to see and hear A Lefthanded shooter review of a 1911 that I've liked ever since the first time that I saw and held one. What amazed me the Most was how easy the slide pulled back.I've seen other 1911's thats slide racked that easy but Not for $850.More like $2000.Everything on this nice 1911 looks and feels well made and top end.Only thing that I wish it had as standard would be a ambidextrous safety and Magazine release since I am also a Lefthanded shooter. All of Us Lefthanded shooters know that they'll never put a slide release on the righthand side of a 1911 unless it's Custom Made and Big Bucks.Still I would Love to have one of theses Buls.
Took my SIG & BUL to the Range , both feel so great !! But the SIG shot gust a little better but not much ! Love both very much ! SIG Tac Opps I got new , Bul was used for less then half the money ! I shot 20 + yrs. in Comp. 1911's Bullseye & Combat. Matches. in Mil. Retired.
I had a BUL 1911 Government in .45. Absolutely loved it. Fit and finish were amazing in a 700 production gun. Just this week picked up the unicorn that is a BUL 1911 Commander in 9mm for less than 900. Haven't had it to the range yet, but the fit and finish are just as good as the government model. BUL makes amazing 1911s.
Hey Mr Wheaton, good to see you rockin TH-cam videos again, Bul Armory 1911’s are really good, my 5” you had black nitrided for me is so good don’t see how a 1911 can be much better regardless of price, well done goob, all the best!👍
Was watching your "fix the Prodigy magazine" video and was delighted to get some good info to address this maddening issue. Scrolled through some of your other videos and had to see your evaluation of this pistol. You are spot on! An absolute joy to shoot, great trigger pull weight and handles recoil well-I love it! The front and backstrap checkering along with the grips just keeps that pistol in place. Keep up the good work!
I bought the 3" lightweight in 45 and love it, best running 1911 I own. By the way, exile gun company had that same model last week for 735.00. My 3" was 899.00 but I haven't seen one in over a year. Great review!
I love my sig sauer scorpion 1911, I would love to compare one day... but I have moved on 2011s, but still own and love 1911s just don't shot as often.
bull armory makes some reasonably priced 1911s. i have been wanting to get the sas 2 tac 4.25. from what i have seen, it is the lowest priced double stack 1911 that i have found. non optic ready version is $1300 & the optic ready version is $1800. just wasn't sure of the quality of it.
I keep coming back to view your video while I anxiously wait for my permit to acquire to be approved (Hawaii) for the same pistol in your review (14 too 20 days). I like your style !
I have the pistol you featured in this video. I agree completely with you. I want to put adjustable iron sights on it and am not sure of the dovetail cuts. Do you know what sights will fit the slots? Thanks
Thanks for your thorough and enthusiastic review of the 1911 Commander. I am looking at the 5" EDC or the 5" Trophy model. Do you have any experience with either of those?
Im more intrested in the trophy match 1911 but is the 9mm superior in all ways i like the 45 acp its the original caliber the gun will be fore idpa and 25 m target shooting Best regards Andreas Knopman.
Trust your take on the great review on the Bul 4'5 inch barrel, all my guns are in 5 inch ,old school 45 guy. Does the 4'5 not jam or does it run without jamming? Would like to get one in 45.
Not only does the Bul 1911 9mm's come standard with 10 RD mags there is also an after market 2 round extender available for the mags, but they are hard to find & might not be available in the USA. Imagine that a 12RD 1911 when most 1911's including high end & custom model 1911's come with 7, 8 & occasionally 9 RD mags !

Hey Robbie new to Your channel but Great to see a fellow Lefthanded shooter give a review of a handgun that I really like.I've liked this Bul 1911 since the first time that I held one.Love the grips but what impressed me the most was how easy it was to rack the slide.I guess the only thing that I didn't like was that it wasn't ambidextrous friendly for Lefthanded shooters but very few 1911's are.How would You rate the Bul compared to a Ruger sr45 or 9mm since they are in the same price range?Would like to hear from a Lefthanded Shooter.
Mark, Thanks for subscribing. The BUL is a category above most firearms available in its price range. If you are in the market for a single stack 1911, the BUL is hard to beat.
I've been considering a Bul Armory gun(either a 1911, or more likely the double stack/"2011") for a while now. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way(and yes, I know this is ridiculous, but let's fact it, half of the reasoning behind buying a 1911 is how awesome they look), is how the barrel extends out in front of the slide by like 1/5 of an inch. Maybe it's from looking at so many high end custom guns with flush fit barrels, target crowns, etc. but it just jumps out to me. Reminds me of a Beretta 92(which I also love the looks of, especially the custom/LTT/Wilson guns, so I'm not sure why it irks me here.) Maybe the solution is to just get a threaded barrel? Do they sell these with threaded barrels from the factory?
Thanks Robbie! I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Bul but had no idea it was a product of Israel. I’ve had a couple of firearms produced there over the years and the quality was superb. Rember the 940 Jericho??
Did you put an ambi on it yet Robbie? I’m “left” out too….lol I would say an ambi safety.. A magwell… And a tritium front sight and this would be perfect…..
I put ambi's on all my pistols. I agree as well about the magwell. There are some really good ones out there for single stack 1911's. I am not a tritium sight fan. I personally prefer fiber optics. Most of my range time is during the day, especially with a 1911. The fiber optic really shines (pun intended) in sunlight.

JJ, ir is OK to throw the brass 15' from the gun. It should all be in the same area, though. If your pistol is throwing brass everywhere, your extractor & ejector need to be tuned. One or both are out of spec. You will end up having a unreliable pistol if it is not corrected.
Thank you for the review. I could not find their "9mm Commander" (4.25 barrell) but I did find and buy the "9mm Government" which has the 5" barrell. Do you think that slightly larger gun might struggle cycling lighter target rounds?
Great review, getting 45in, commander.old collector, concerned about cast frame.have my own range an want to run heavy no.of rounds, ANY WORRYS on failures in cast frame??
The frame is forged. Some internal parts are MIM; hammer, sear, disconnector, etc. I have had friends put well over 100k rounds through their BUL with no issues other than barrel wear. Buy and shoot with confidence. I would recommend getting a model with a Wilson/Nowlin ramped barrel so the case is fully supported if you plan to use hot loads. The fully supported chamber will allow for higher chamber pressures.
Nice gun. I don't think you are right about the recoil spring at 8-9 pounds. Usually recoil spring for 9mm is 14-16 pounds. Good review overall and great gun.
It depends on the manufacturer. STI, Staccato, BUL, Infinity and many other manufacturers use 7-9lb springs on their race tuned 1911/2011 pistols. Most of your commercial firearms manufacturers producing 1911/2011 pistols normally use a 10-14lb spring to improve reliability in different conditions. The Prodigy is 8 or 9lbs.
