Same. I fucking hate anything Ubisoft made in last 5 years and I love XDefiant. If game will have even small but stable community they will support it just look at their other games like Division 2,Siege or especially For Honor thats over 6 years old and they still plan to support it content wise. They also were fixing and updating Ghost Recon Breakpoint for like 3 years despite game not meeting their expectations sales and reception wise. If theres one and only good thing about Ubisoft nowadays then its definetly post launch content support for their titles.

This genre of game will never compare to Valorant or CSGO. Those games have numbers that are astronomical in comparison to these games lmao. Even COD only has 80k on Steam. That's nothing. This type of FPS game (Very arcady/casual) isn't that popular in comparison to BR or tactical 5v5. So it'll never have Valorant numbers or even remotely close. It'll never be a massive esport, and I can bet my left nut it'll be pulled within 1-2 years. It's a great game, but they'd have to pull ALL of COD's player base to even have a chance. CODs playerbase IS NOT even that high...So if they want a actual successful game they'd need to pull more players then that at bare minimum. And not just at launch, they need that many players 1-2 years AFTER LAUNCH.
And even in terms of how they play, they aren't even remotely the same. Except that you have abilities. Other than that they don't really have ANY cross-over with each other. Very different games.

I've been playing FPS games for awhile and I did notice that the lack of any SBMM meant that most matches were often very one sided. If I went super sweaty and used the best character and loadout then I could very easily win pretty much every match. Many casual players just felt like bots to farm and the only opposition was the one or two good players randomly on the other team. Top players would end the game with 30+ kills while everyone else just got farmed like bots. I fear like many people who are used to SBMM are going to get farmed for 10 games in a row and stop playing.

I haven't played Call of Duty for about five years because it became a casino rather than a game, but it had a hardcore mode to make playing more engaging with the risk of accidental team-killing. There was no minimap, a wall-hack in a different form. It took fewer bullets to kill, rather than having to empty your gun into an enemy before they even flinched. If this game has the options of no minimap, less time-to-kill and the danger of team-kills, it might be worth some time playing. Ideally, it would also have limited guff: minimal weapon customisation, no avatar customisation and no character background or development. All weapon attachments would be available to everyone from the start without having to unlock them, so that players wouldn't have to grind and could simply get into the game and play against others who don't have access to better equipment.

I really like this game. I was a big CoD fan for the games before CoD Ghost, and quickly stopped playing by the time BO3 was out. I've been playing various FPS games since then, but never had a good CoD replacement. This game does a great job at copying good ideas from other games, while innovating and introducing fresh gameplay in more subtle ways. The movement feels really fun and fluid and the abilities give the game some variety and possible skill gap that's more than just aim. I also really appreciate them not making this a battle royale, that's a really hard space to break into and succeed while objective based fast paced shooters don't really have any big competition right now beyond CoD and Overwatch 2. The game ran really well and I didn't have any noticeable bugs except a bit of weird netcode stuff for high ping players. Ubisoft devs know how to program a working sound engine *cough* Apex Legends *cough* and the visuals aren't completely cluttered with dust and UI. Definitely try the game if you like games like Overwatch, Apex, or CoD and want something fresh and well made.

Looks like it might be a good bit of "dumb fun" with some objective-driven tactics to keep things fresh. Still not sure how I feel about the Overwatch-meets-COD art style, but if it means we get readable environments and clean angles without too much extraneous geo, then it could all come together. I wouldn't be too quick to draw direct comparisons to COD, MW2 clearly is going for a sort of "realistic arcade/light milsim" hybrid whereas this game looks much more on the arcadey side. As someone who played MW2019 for 3+ years and intends to do the same with MWII, here's my stance since this is apparently 'for me'.
    - red dots on the minimap when a weapon is fired; is redundant because the sound design is so good that you'll hear where a gunshot is coming from
    - SBMM actually serves a greater purpose that addresses an issue CoD players have had for years. Being put in lobbies with crazy overkill good players when you're nowhere near that. It was something everyone and their dog complained about, so SBMM was created to circumvent it. Sure, it's not perfect, as it constantly re-adjusts its metrics on what a player's skill level is per-game, but for the most part, it does what it should.
    - I'm not "sick of playing the same thing every year" (as many gamers say in criticism of CoD) because for me, it's not the same thing every year, and I know that if a CoD title doesn't interest me, I can just skip it, rather than complain like I don't even like the series.
    - In regards to this whole narrative that CoD is losing players and failing as a series. I don't need XDefiant, or any other CoD clone to take the mantle and re-establish my faith in shooters. If I ever get sick of CoD, I can play Doom, or Star Wars, or Dying Light 2. When I buy and play CoD it's because I want a solid military shooter experience that represents the gold standard of FPS gameplay and shooting mechanics. It's top of the market and I know that even with a CoD I don't like, it'll still feel like Call of Duty irregardless. That is why XDefiant won't ever be a "CoD killer" like their marketing wants you to believe.
    - XDefiant flagrantly uses concepts and factions from the Ubisoft games they have been neglecting (Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, etc). Not about to pat them on the back for that shit.

SBMM isn't even really the issue the thing I liked the most about the old call of duty game was that after a match you stayed in that lobby and it would look at the scores of the lobby and redo the teams or if it were FFA you'd have another chance to try and win it. If you felt like it was just a bad lobby for you then simply back out and find a new one. The current games and likely this one will to, always force to a main menu after a match so you have no time to chat, talk, or discuss that match or even a chance to verse the team again in event you barely lost, want a re-match, or thought it was a good match.

Loved COD over the years but as I’ve got older I just don’t have the time to sink into it like I used to, which makes the £60 a year price tag (plus £50 a year PS plus to play online) too expensive. Ive dabbled in battle royales and therefore dabbled in Warzone but BR is too slow paced for me which is why COD MP was my sweet spot. I hope this game gets the player base it needs to keep it going. It definitely looks promising.

as a video game journalist can you tell me your process on when your write, when you play and how you manage to spend your hours to really play the game, but also create a good script?
