This video is fantastic. I've been searching for how to mod (or make) a creamy sounding keyboard for forever. Everything is all about thocc and I'm like, "but I want it creamy!" This video is so well made, edited so nicely. You definitely deserve more views for all this work. Love it.
It's kind of crazy that you can get a barebone aluminium kb for that price (and the prebuilt for $100). How far we've come since the mech keyboard hobby exploded during the pandemic, I thought boards like monsgeeks were crazy for the price, now we have entry level/budget stuff like this.
womier has a really nice 65% AL keeb right now also....99 dollar prebuilt and it ranks up there with the epomaker...... its the KS65 and i just got one to write a review on..... and it is honestly the most impressive budget keeb that i have tired since the galaxy 80..... its even got a nice weight plate on it.... the switches slide into place so effortlessly..... i highly suggest trying it out if your interested in a beautiful smaller keeb with a knob and al frame....
I own the same board. I ended up getting a knob for the F13 spot as it has the pin array for the Skyloong hot-swappable knob. Just plug it in and it works right away.
This is a really well made video! Glad you were able to make such a great sounding keyboard for the low budget. Really shows how much this industry is improving to be more beginner and budget friendly (since that's pretty much what's stopping most people from entering the hobby). Great work! Subbed.
I love pp plates and they are seeing a lot more popular usage on them. Pp alphas are just clean and seeing them offered on new boards like the neo ergo ,a budget tented alice, has been so nice
Keep it up dude this video is amazing. I myself didn't evern know this was possible for this price range and was about to buy a RK61 and mod it. Anyway thank for this idea loved the vid and hope your friend loved it.
ive been using the epomakerxfeker for a few months now and it doesnt get old..... it is sometimes a bit weird typing on it with the factory keys on the prebuilt but man it really is good......
For creamy builds I honestly think OEM profile keycaps are just a smidge better than cherry. They are just a little taller but they look almost the exact same
Would Akko Cream Yellow switches be a good substitute for the Gaterons? I already have some lying around so I thought it would be easier to use them but only if it gives the same effect
Hey, I had made a build similar to this. I had used a keychron v2 barebones kit with JWK Jwick Linear Switches and Red Samurai Clones. My board does not sound as good despite completing all the steps in the video. Do you think I should get new switches and keycaps, and if so what would you recommend. I am trying to reach a similar creamy sound. Anything would help, Thanks!
Bought 3 Galaxy80 barebones and all were DOA :( . All had the problem of not detecting inputs. The list of stuff I tried was: Different boards Different switches Different OS Different PCs Different cables Different USB ports Wired/wireless/BT With/without drivers After exhausting all of those on all 3 boards I just returned them as they were all borked
They keyboard says it has USB-C connectivity. Does that mean it plugs into the computer with USB-C as well, or just they keyboard? My PC does not have any USB-C ports, just the regular USB but I really want to try this build.
great video! One thing I want to add is that while foams are good on cheaper boards, If you get into higher end keyboards the majority of them are built to sound good without foams. So boards coming without foams may not necessarily denote a poorer build or sound quality
Dejavu! I have been in this place before! Still a fun video btw. I love seeing builds for keyboard noobs. Only thing better is when they get to build it themselves ^^
Awesome video, great editing and very informative. Waiting for my lemo key P1 and london fog switches to arrive. Going for the creamy profile aswell. I just cant decide if I want a set of ceramic keycaps or some GMKs
i got the galaxy80 but can’t decide to also get milky yellows or consider akko v3 creamy black pro or akko cs jelly black. i’m looking for a deeper sound. any suggestions would be appreciated:)
Its really poppy and thocky. I put gat g pro black 3.0 and theyre poppy, im running ktt kang white atm.I think the creamy blacks would be amazing on this board, i have lying around im going to throw on actually.
$60 with a $6 off coupon no less! I built one of these out just because it was all AL for less then $60. Had some extra WS Heavy Tactiles and grabbed some front shine shine through XVX keycaps that match (got the blue) for like $20. Total build since I had the switches less than $80. The WoB look great on the beige and the board sounds great! These board are a steal for what you get IMHO. Great video showing it off!
so how would u get this sound on a plastic keyboard? like with the upcoming transitions lite? i heard i need dysub keycaps but that would go more thock than creamy?
Awesome, I'm spending 50 more bucks for a Gmmk 3 barebones kit, its all aluminum and I'm a gamer so RGB is cool. Using Milky Yellows and Wooting Polychrome keycaps. its gonna look and sound sick :D.
Any suggestions for one with a numpad? I was looking through the comments and didn’t see the question but I need one for work and I work in parts so typing in numbers is more than half the job. Didn’t know if you had an idea of a good base for that
Kinda, I sold some fully built tiger lights for around that price with really good parts. Only ever made $50 from each for assembly and lubing the switches though. Also offered a really great tutorial on how to build the same board for cheaper. The ones I sold were only for those couple of people that would pay extra for it to be done instantly and wanted hand lubed switches.
A wired galaxy 80 build with high quality caps and hmx or other flawless stock switches should come in under 100 if you know what you're doing. The switches and caps you chose are dirt cheap and not very good, and you massively massively overpaid for them to manage to get this to 114+.
@@Blob9 I literally said how. The Wired Galaxy80 is only 54 on Amz and 46 on WhatGeek with code. Also randomly the wireless version appeared for 45 on Amz but it has since sold out. 50 remaining is enough or nearly enough to get 90 HMX switches especially if they're on sale from say MilkTooth or UniKeys (who now also sell singles at normal price for sampling all the varieties), and a large keycap set of good quality like Shenpo, GhostJudges, or a wide array of random dyesub cherry sets or doubleshot abs from Ai Fei which are surprisingly comparable to GMK for 5th the cost.
Literally all boards sound different. There is no "special". Spring, bottom housing, top housing, stems, plate material, case depth, acoustics, screw positioning, gasket positioning, etc, all these factors affect sound.

This build is amzing. Love the sound of these creamy switches. Just built it and put everything together.
Watched this video a week ago. Just put it together tonight with the exact same switches and keycaps and kit. Thing is amazing!!!

It really is! With board like the Chillkeys ND75 only being around $100 for a fully build is out of this world!
Trust me, the aluminum kb will be more budget-friendly this year. Ours are also coming soon. Nice video, as usual.

I made this exact keyboard and love it! The prebuilt has different but also excellent switches and is tri-mode rather than only wireless.
how's typing accuracy with your board?
I'm sure it's accuracy is fine. My accuracy? Not so much. 😮

you can put a knob in the f13 key as well :)
How does that work?
Really, that’s kinda sick!

ive been using the epomakerxfeker for a few months now and it doesnt get old..... it is sometimes a bit weird typing on it with the factory keys on the prebuilt but man it really is good......
Yeah epomaker makes some great boards especially for the price!
@@TyCottle womier just sent me a banger 65%..... the sk65 is also really really good for a prebuilt for $99
For creamy builds I honestly think OEM profile keycaps are just a smidge better than cherry. They are just a little taller but they look almost the exact same
Yeah OEM are great! Kinda forgot about them when making this video, will have to keep that in mind for the next!
Yo quick question, you think you can get a similar sound, same switches, same keycaps, but with a different plastic case, and less foam?
Would Akko Cream Yellow switches be a good substitute for the Gaterons? I already have some lying around so I thought it would be easier to use them but only if it gives the same effect
were do you get the stabalizers
I really hate that I live in a country with ISO layout keyboards. So much harder to find quality keyboard kits for a decent price. :( Great video tho!
5:39 Those switches are banana splits, not halu halos. Great vid btw :)
Great video! Do you have a link for the grey keyboard mat?

You could also do the epomaker x lobo hi75 barebones kit, very good.
They keyboard says it has USB-C connectivity. Does that mean it plugs into the computer with USB-C as well, or just they keyboard? My PC does not have any USB-C ports, just the regular USB but I really want to try this build.
Is it possible to swap its pcb to gmk87 pcb?🤔

Of course! Remember this is a budget build tho.
# Ty Cottle i have a question did you lube the gateron milky yellow pros and do you have to lube the gatreon milky yellows pros to get the same sound?

Fantastic build. GG
7:02 is where the sound test actually starts. Thank me later.
if i'm building a creamy keyboard, is there any mods i want to avoid?
I would avoid tape mod if u want a quieter kb, but if you want to make it sound more poppy go for it!
holeeee thoccy-creamy latte AF!

I feel the key switches are bit over lubed, sound bit sticky to my ears😂 but I guess that’s what called the creamy sound? Btw Love your videos!
Will try this build! (My first build) wish me luck! :)

heh got ya beat. Mine thocks for 20 bucks......including the board.
if only you waited like, a month or so longer, you coulda used akko rosewoods. those things are incredibly thocky
Dude you have overlubed the absolute shit out of those switches 🤢. They dont thock they squish 🤣🤣
haha, its the cheat code.
@@TyCottle 🤣🤣🤣
Hmm, gonna make a prediction before I watch: "creamy", it's filled with foam and lubed. No tape
Yep, literally just an all foam build. Literally nothing special. The flex cuts are making it far quieter.
Haha yeah it is a budget creamy build. The recipe is pretty much only foam and decent switches lol.
nice
