Why am I watching this...
OllieHoops 0 Exactly. I ALWAYS find myself in the "weird part of TH-cam"....
You're bored
Why not? I'd hardly call this "the weird side of TH-cam". Discussing death is the best way to overcome Western society's unhealthy death fears. I'd recommend checking out "Ask A Mortician"''s TH-cam channel.
It's always so interesting to see the different levels of intensity of video at which people consider themselves on "The Weird Side of TH-cam"
Nothing wrong with feeding your brain by learning new stuff
Jean is definitely Haitian lols last name and accent gives it away yasss. 🇭🇹
I’m a missionary in haiti and I 💯 agree
I know him. You are correct.
They should've asked why do funerals cost so much
They cost much less than life =D
Jasmine my mom paid over 10,000 dollars for my grandpas funeral
As my grandfather recently passed away: a lot of it depends on the choices you make. They give a whole range of options from providing basic services like cremating and posting the obit all the way up to having extremely expensive caskets, funeral services, viewing, etc. etc. If your mom spent $10K, that means she selected some of those pricier options.
LA F oh my sorry for your lost I would say I understand what you're going through but I really don't my grandpa has always been sick even from the day I was born so I never really got close to him and thank you for explaining to me the reason why my mom spent a whole lot of money on a funeral
Coffins are very expensive, viewings, church mass, burial lot of stuff to pay for
these weren't questions about death, they were about *funerals*
tanya g Check out Ask a Mortician on TH-cam. That's who Buzzfeed is ripping off in this video
Rachael Autera was going to say the same!!
It's sneaky marketing via misinformation.
+
tanya g yu saved me 5 mins of my life
Ask a mortician is another TH-cam channel you can take a look at if you have questions about death. It’s very informative :) especially on alternative care after death that doesn’t involve embalming
I know right she answers questions I didn't even know that I wanted answered, definitely the best death information channel ❤
+
She's a fake.
I love Caitlin so much
@@MrJamiez your father is a fake.
If you like this check out Ask A Mortician and become a fellow deathling
Sydney Lynn yasssss
Deathling here.
If you guys want more check out ASK A MORTICIAN ask has alot of awesome videos.
WYNOLLO TV Yeah I was kinda sad to not see her in this video because she does have a large social media following compared to other morticians. Or at least I don't know any others that are well known by people that don't have a job in the death community.
I WAS GOING TO COMMENT SAYING THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD HER AGAIN. HELLO FELLOW DEATHLING!!!!!!!!!
Addy Payne HELLO😍
Gianna Rijpma yea me too 😣 I was um this video should be staring her
WYNOLLO TV I totally took a screen shot and posted it on Twitter for her to see.
Watch Ask a Mortician if you are interested in death. She's amazing and also discusses and advocates for natural burials.
Emblaming is not needed if the body is being buried or cremated straight away, it is only needed to keep a corpse looking and smelling good for transport or when the body will be out for a while
Honestly watch Caitlin, she has made me feel so much more comfortable about death.
Interesting video though ♡
Cyvin Tyranea I know I LOVE HER
She is a fake.
Note* embalming is not required!!! They should of had that lady from ask a mortician
Note*
Why were you so desperate, Nicole, to convince everyone that NYS requires embalming by law?
New York Health Department website:
"Is embalming required by State law?
No. In fact, a funeral director must obtain specific approval to embalm from the customer. A funeral home may, however, require embalming if certain services, such as a viewing with an open casket, are chosen.
Embalming fees must be clearly stated on both the firm's General Price List and on the Itemized Statement of Services and Merchandise Provided."
www.health.ny.gov/publications/0704/
This is a very sanitized version of ASK A MORTICIAN. If anyone really wants the inside scoop on death with an undertaker who is A LOT more personable then I would suggest checking that channel out. She doesn't water anything down or bs you.
If you're really curious about the ins and outs of the funeral industry and death, go to the channel Ask A Mortician. Caitlin Doughty has worked in the funeral industry for years and written multiple books. She isn't afraid to get down to the nitty gritty and satisfy some of our normal but morbid curiosities surrounding death. Ever heard of exploding caskets? She talks about that! Pacemakers and implants in a crematory? That too!
These two really don't answer the questions very well.
I agree. These two didn't really answer questions whole fully.
Agreed! They talking about embalming 🙄
You don't need to be embalmed. Check out *Ask a Mortician* , she talks a lot of sense.
Nicole
"(i) Embalming. The price must include use of the preparation room. In immediate conjunction with the price for embalming there must be the statement, " *In New York State, embalming is not required by law.* If you do not want embalming, you have the right to choose an arrangement which does not require you to pay for embalming such as direct cremation or direct burial. If you select certain funeral arrangements, such as viewing or an open casket funeral, embalming *may be required* by the *funeral firm* ."
(From state regulations for the funeral business)
" *Is embalming required by State law* ?
*No* . In fact, a funeral director must obtain specific approval to embalm from the customer. *A funeral home may, however, require* embalming if certain services, such as a viewing with an open casket, are chosen.
Embalming fees must be clearly stated on both the firm's General Price List and on the Itemized Statement of Services and Merchandise Provided."
(From a nys gov site about funerals)
Maybe a finer legal point to argue, but it seems like it's not required by law, rather a decision made by the funeral home - "may require". So they have the right to demand embalming for public viewing, but they aren't obligated by law to demand it, is what it sounds like to me.
It may seem like legal minutiae but it's extremely important. Nicole says "NYS law requires embalming for public viewing." Not only is it legally incorrect it's misrepresenting the law which, in fact, gives funeral homes the choice to include it under contract law.
@Nicole you trying to lie was funny
Nicole in California embalming isn’t required for viewing. Embalming is optional
Ask a mortician is a great channel about this!
This is a very skewed video. Check out Ask a Mortician on youtube for some information about family-led, more natural death and funeral business
Well I know what they do with the coffins they don't want anymore.. THEY GIVE IT TO SHANE DAWSON😂
Brooke Richards I LOVE SHANE😩😂❤️
I don't get it
kingjojo In a recent vid of Ryland's, they did a photoshoot with a coffin
lmaooooo I remember that!!!!
Brooke Richards UGHHHHH I love you 💞💞💞💞
Yo, Imma let you finish, but Caitlin Doughty from Ask A Mortian has one of the best channels of all time!
Yes!! Ah, It's still so good. Marry me!
I heard from a mortician that when they roll the body over it exhales and freaks out the new people 😂😐
Lol they do worse than exhale.
Thats when I would quit. I would straight up, just walk tf out 😂😂
What...what do they do?
Well...
Grey D They often urinate or defecate as muscles and organs shut down
Go watch ask a mortician. Her videos are amazing and she answers so many death questions and has such a different outlook on death and decay.
She was exposed as a fake.
Caitlyn Doughty (ask a mortician) makes this so much more entertaining...
Ask a mortician is a really great youtuber to look up for answers to these kinds of questions and just for all things death related.
I thought it was the Undertaker from WWE. Bamboozled again
Me too. XD
Word
DOGE same lol
Doge 🤣
I get all my death news from Caitlin Doughty AKA "Ask A Mortician". She's been serving up history, education and corpses galore for ages (highly recommend you swing by her channel). Love this discussion, it's fascinating!
especially her videos on coffin births, and NECROPHILIA!!!
nooooo embalming is not necessary unless shipping the body or keeping it preserved for a specific reason! Otherwise its an expensive waste for families and awful for the environment. Check out Ask a Mortitian's channel
Yes but if you noticed they are BLACK - just to shed some light most black funerals don't happen within 3 days which forces a great deal of black funeral home to embalm to avoid decay - even a cold fridge cannot contain a decaying body for but so long
Naomi M. M hence “keeping it preserved for a specific reason”
Actually embalming is not required for shipping well at least by plane
Embalming is almost never a requirement! Don't let them convince you it is. Check out the order of the good death and The Ask a mortician channel.
Most families in the US prefer embalming...
@@deshaunx776 no they don’t. They “prefer it” because they are lied to. The funeral industry has so much to answer for, including the environmental damage done by excessive embalming.
This is just one perspective on how death can work. I highly suggest looking up Caitlyn dohtey and "ask a mortician" on TH-cam
Would have been cool to see Caitlin Doughty answer some of these
The channel Ask a Mortician has a lot of good information about this topic.
Go to ask a mortician. She is amazing and BuzzFeed pretty much ripped her off. She has even been a guest at BuzzFeed before.
The city will "possess" the body
He’s Haitian it’s called an accent duck
The handsome Funeral man has a lovely accent.
wtf is an accent duck
Where's Caitlyn Doughty? Why isn't ask a mortician here? She's awesome!
Y'all should check out Ask a Mortician if you're curious about the 'death industry', she has so much knowledge and is really enjoyable to watch!!
Soooooo you made a very poor, ripped off version of Ask a Mortician? Okay, I see what you did there. HEY everyone, ignore this cheap knock off and go watch Caitlin Doughty’s TH-cam channel and read her books if you want true insight and information about the death industry.
Agreed 💯💯💯💯 Jump on off this video and go watch some Caitlin if you really want to know about the funeral industry or death.
If you are interested in all things death ASK A MORTICIAN has amazing videos about all kinds of death related topics and questions! Check her out!!
HeyyBrey yesss I love her!
HeyyBrey And she's MUCH more fun too.
Yep!!!
Plus her burial practices are much more eco friendly and progressive!!
Thank you so much for mentioning her! Honestly I couldn't listen to them talking about the necessity of embalming.
a body doesn't have to embalmed to be prepared for burial/cremation. I learned that over at ASK A MORTICIAN. An excellent channel for the death curious (edited for typo).
Where's Ask a Mortician? Y'all should have added her too
It's so dreamy~ your favorite TH-camr has her own platform. Just because you like her doesn’t mean she has to be included. Most ppl don’t expect black ppl to be in the business of death so this was interesting.
Buzzfeed stealing video ideas again and not giving credit. Y'all know you owe Caitlin Doughty @ "Ask A Mortitian" credit, come on now 🤔😠 Us Death Muffins are coming for ya!
Ask A Mortician is an awesome channel.
Caitlyn's channel is the best!!! She puts a little light-hearted humor in a very dark subject.
Lol... She's not a mortician. She got exposed.
If you want some original non-corporate answers, subscribe to "Ask A Mortician" the original channel BuzzFeed is trying to rip off.
This mustv'e been a huge challenge for them to *undertake.*
I am not sorry in the slightest.
Your really punny
I'm also not sorry
Phillipa Thomas-Wilkinson Thanks :) I think your joke was very *punning.*
I'm still not sorry.
😂😂😂
If anyone wants to learn more about this sort of topic you should checkout Ask a Mortician! Her videos are awesome and she answers questions and talks about these type of topics all the time!
Ask a mortician you tube
PLEASE watch Ask A Mortician if this kind of video interests/helps you cope with death. Her ideas are WAY more informed and she presents options beyond what the funeral industries want you to throw your money at. Buzzfeed is tryna step on her toes, but you should just go appreciate her channel instead! You will not be disappointed.
I like Caitlin's ask a mortician more
Me tooo!!!! She doesnt lie, like these folks who just want your money..
Crystal Harter mortician is a different thing to a funeral director 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
@@cringefest7841 ....She literally owns her own funeral home, as well as organizing and directing said funerals. But, yeah, ToOoOoOoTaLly DiFfErEnT....
You do not need to embalm a body FYI. Embalming was only used for extreme circumstances like if the body is out for a week or more, but if you are having a traditional 3 day viewing you don’t need to be embalmed if the facility has cold storage. Just a waste of money
Samantha and Dexter German Shepherd Dogs interesting didn’t know that
I work on tombstones, for almost 30 years. I’ve experienced some amazing things. The questions are answered not just with the deceased but with the living. I know for a fact this “reality” is not the “end”.
Tell us a story, pleeeeeeeeease? 🙏🏽
*Video doesn't include Ask A Mortician*
Bye..
I've noticed morticians and funeral home directors always have such calm, caring, profesional demeanors. These 2 seem like very genuinely caring people. Its an amazing quality I think.. i could never be like that given the emotional circumstances
Notice how well off these people look. A lot of funeral homes tell you you need this and that, and it's a legal requirement to use this, or you must buy that. They make so much money and most don't feel bad for ripping you off at your most vunarable time. I would highly recommended checking out the good death, Caitlin doughty is a mortician, she believes in bringing back the more hands on approach to saying your last goodbyes, and she hates the ones that RIP you off lol. She has a TH-cam channel called ask a mortician.
Should they not look presentable?
chs75 Right lol! I don't want anybody handling my body or my loved ones body looking a hot mess lol.
Are they just supposed to not look presentable? I’m sorry but most black ppl don’t have the privilege to look like a goth rock punk person and be taken seriously.
Y’all are missing the point of the post entirely, but go ahead and stay ignorant.
@Raven Noghtshade you are 100% correct, and Caitlin is the best! 🖤🖤
You should have gotten someone death positive like Caitlin Doughty from ask a mortician so you actually present different ideas and options. Embalming is not the only option, even if funerals directores would like you to believe that so you'll pay thousands of dollars for a funeral!
the smell must be incredibly bad within these places
woah what are you doing here aren't you supposed to be loving tasty videos
Mr Not That Famous I mean these places are professionals dealing with bodies, so I’m sure they have a lot of ways of handling the smell ha
Not rly to be honest, the cleaning of the body (at least the "gross parts" like the involuntary emissions of fluid or solids and blood) happens where the body is found (when I worked in nursing homes I usually was who they had clean and prepare the body for the hearse), the only smells in the funeral home is usually when there is an ordered delay on the embalming process like in suspicious deaths or in cases where the family are needed to identify the body and make the decisions for burial procedures, and the smells of chemicals. The ones I have been in have not been obvious in any way since usually the bodies delayed for embalming are kept separately in a sterile room or in a body chamber.
I might as well begin watching your videos because you comment on everything i watch
Rennervate sameee
I was hoping for Caitlin Doughty from Ask A Mortician lmao
ayyy bibii Then Go Find Her
ayyy bibii yes 😂
Nah they just stole this idea from her instead of asking her if she wants to be featured lmao
She also has a video on busfeed
Who already knew the answers thanks to "Ask a Mortician?" 😊💀
Wow I know people from this funeral home, they’re great people and it’s so cool to see them be interviewed. Queeeeeenssss NY!!!
Ask a Mortician is such a great channel and way better than this
but this is not a channel, its just one isolated post - if a channel is dedicated to this i'd expect it to be better b/c that's the sole purpose.
They stole the idea and gave the original no credit. This is a pretty specific topic- it's not like music or tag videos or something.
my grandpa was buried by those people special thank you to those people...those are who we interviewed with at the funeral home
rip grandpa💙🥀
What? No Caitlin? No thank you!
Kelly Fishbeck is she white
Buzzfeed buzzing and feeding on other's content again. Ya'll have written about Catlin, Ask A Mortician, and the Death Positive movement. I'd love to see the excuse you can muster up on how this isn't Buzzfeed copying her format. The only difference is she is trying to open a discourse on death and mortality in the US and ya'll just be trying to get that paycheck.
TMW you know all this because you’re already subscribed to Caitlyn Doughty. She has a series called “Ask The Mortician and aka thegooddeath on YT.
Hats off to those who work in a funeral home. Being surrounded by death and sadness everyday and being able to continue work and living must take a specifically strong individual.
Just ask the guy from final destination....
Which one?
William Bill Bludworth or simply Tony Todd
Yes!!! I wonder if there is such a thing as a cadaveric spasm. Let's skype Tony Todd with Caitlyn Doughty!
Catilin Doughty's (Ask a Mortician) videos are so much more educational and entertaining, would rather just binge watch her videos some mire.
OMG FOR A SEC I WAS THOUGHT THAT THEY MENT THE BLACK BUTLER CHARACTER
I can’t be the only person who thought this would be a Wired Google Autofill with the actual WWE Undertaker...
they dont talk about alternative death choices in dealing with the body that embolming isnt required its an option tho most funeral homes force it.
Lippy Witch depending on the situation no embalming isn't required. There are such things as green burials. In certain states a body must be embalmed within 24 hours of receiving the decedent and if they are not embalmed, they either will be cremated or immediately buried. For certain situations where the person is viewed, embalming must occur. If it's an ID viewing, no embalming is not required but some may ask to do some restorative work, such as closing the mouths and eyes out of respect for the decedent and the family wishing to view. There are actual laws for this that people can look up that varies state by state. Funeral directors are bound to this law or risk losing their business, license, be imprisoned. Not all funeral directors are money hungry and want to push embalming and continue to add up the bill. It's about what the family and the deceased want and following their wishes.
Because they weren't asked.
its allowed in all states its just ify on how one goes about it differs. you would think funeral homes accross the board would be willing to offer these and other options (hell itd make more money with more options) but embolming is extremely exepnsive so they make the buyers think its required when in fact its not even in extreme circumstances. and embolming isnt required even for viewing if they request not to have it done. again funeral homes make this seem like its required, again it isnt.
they shouldnt have to be asked they should have it statedas an option period. embolming is arelatively new thing in the history of funeral stuff. it only bc a big thing in the 1900s after the WW's occured. it isnt required nor is it neccessary and wasnt up until recent history assumed to be so. no matter how one dies, they can be buried without embolming etc.
Maybe because it is a sponsored video... It is in the interest of funeral homes not to talk about those cheaper alternatives :| also, embalming is not the norm outside the USA, it would be nice if Buzzfeed made a video about that and why funerals are so expensive in the USA (but no profit there, so... not happening)
I recommend watching " ask a mortician" here on TH-cam her name is Caitlyn Doughty and she is very real about her line of work and really gets in depth with it
This is dope... but if y'all don't link up with my qurl #AskAMortician in this ongoing death series... Imma be 5ever shook, ya heard?
+
I love her ❤
Love her !!❤❤
Yes yes yes yes
Hello my fellow deathlings!
Way to rip off Ask A Mortician. Do you ever have an original idea over there or what?
Bleh. Talk to Caitlin Doughty next time.
Ronda Stapleton bleh lol
These guys are under appreciated. Thank you for all you do, I definitely could not do this
You should check out the channel “Ask A Mortician” Buzzfeed has featured her a number of times and now they do this? Hmmm. Her channel is the best!
Such a predatory industry. “Dignity and honor” what a joke.
Seriously, check out Caitlin over at Ask a Mortician! She's so entertaining and informative.
I love how Buzzfeed continues to steal content and ideas from other channels! :)
She's a fake tho
No mentioning of the predatory practices these places use. Hint: Look at their clothes and jewelry. There are huge corporations that make big money from death.
Also no mention of how embalming is dangerous for the environment or the staff. There are far more better green alternatives but none mentioned in this video.
You would prefer they look raggedy? Yes, people make money off of death. They are educated, licensed professionals - how dare they make a living! And no other alternatives were mentioned, because they weren't asked.
chs75 That's a pretty lame argument.. If you knew more about the death industry you would understand OP's complaint. Try watching Ask a Mortician.
How so? One pays goes to school and take the test to get licensed, does a professional job just to work for peanuts? Please. I've watched her, she makes money off of the death industry too. What is your point?
chs75 chs75 She runs a nonprofit funeral home, and pushes Death Education. OP's complaint is that the funeral homes portrayed are the ones out for money, vs those that truly want to help people grieve. Sure, they're educated and looking professional is great, but the way it comes off is that they're sharks pushing embalming, which is not necessary.
Again, *she gets paid*. Even non-profits pay their employees. I don't understand, are saying for instance that a doctor can only be a good person, if they treat people for free? Lawyers? Teachers? I'm curious what your job is that you don't take a salary and that helps your fellow man.
Are there predatory companies out there trying to bilk people out of their money? Yes. But why is that all of them? Just because they dress professionally? And why is it a bad thing to want to earn a profit for your efforts? They are a business which must pay taxes, overhead, salaries, maintenance on buildings and vehicles, insurance etc. Most even pay BMI/ASCAP/SESAC fees so they have the ability to play copyrighted music at services.
Talk about a stolen idea. ASK A MORTICIAN has been doing this for a few years now mixed with other death topics. She is amazingly interesting.
yeah!!!! especially her video on COFFIN BIRTHS!!! Creepy!!
A stolen idea? Come on now. You can find a TH-cam channel dedicated to any topic. That doesn’t mean that every video dealing it’s the same topic is “stolen”. 🙄
As a funeral director I can truly say I love my job. Making someone go from looking unpresentable to beautiful for their families in the hardest times is so rewarding. I would do my job for free for the rest of my life
kate Grace Do you know of The Order of The Good Death, then?
boop daboops yes I do!
Ask A Mortician has a whole series on this.
Ask A Mortician is way better, check her out
Ask A Mortician is a really good channel to go to if you find this type of stuff interesting!!
*Undertaker* sounds a whole lot cooler than Funeral Director
Damn, I expected the wrestler
I commend these people that work at a funeral home and are able to stay positive. For me having lost my mother in June of 2015 and having to do another funeral, the place was so somber and depressing, although some family members actually made me smile during the funeral.
ASK A MORTIICIIIIIAN~~~
Srly check her channel. She is dope 😁
I've planned many funerals, and the directors really are a godsend. Much respect 👏
When I see the undertaker I think about black butler... I'm such a weeb
Nico Hunter you're not alone
Nico Hunter me too
Same
Nico Hunter who's that?
Nico Hunter sameee
The male funeral directors laugh gave me chills. When the question came up about the lights and he laughed, it reminded me of a vampire for some strange and creepy reason. The hair stood up on the back of my neck.
Ask A Mortician is a much better TH-cam channel.
These two individuals seem very professional and reassuring.
Dear BuzzFeed, I get where you are going with this video....ask a scientist, ask a doctor etc. I just think you should at least have asked Caitlin Doughty to answer the questions for you. I mean you had experts in the other videos, so you should have had some respect to her and her established TH-cam channel (ask a mortician). Total disrespect to her. I refuse to watch this video and am unsubscribing to you!
Need a part 2. You hear me buzzfeed a part 2 questions of what happens in funeral homes.
Gilbert Martinez hey, head over to Ask a Morticians TH-cam page. She’ll answer those questions and shes also downright fun to watch.
What a great video to get ready for bed to ....
Was thinking the same
Ikr😂😂
I don't imagine too many people realize the important role that Funeral directors play in our Communities until the time comes that we need their services & expertise at such an emotionally difficult time for Families ...
@askamortician where you at?!
Thank you so much for what you all do!
*sees "undertaker"*
*thinks of Black Bulter*
*clicks on video*
There’s so much more to the death service than people know which is unfortunate because everyone will have to go through the processes at some point. It’s a very interesting profession that I’m excited to be a part of soon
It kinda bothers me how in this video they make it seem like you have to be embalmed like it’s definitely not required but it definitely costs more
These undertakers seem so chill. Kudos.
I saw the title and thought of Black Butler
Raven Same!
Ask a Mortician all the way. She actually explains things from multiple points of view, is entertaining, and fights for the good death. And seriously, she's been on Buzzfeed before, CLEARLY this video is a completely original idea........ really...
I can't be the only one who thought it was wwe undertaker
Thank for your thoughtful and wise explanations about funerals.
