Being a little bit of a tool junkie, l treasure all of my american made tools particularly the edge tools. I am saddened to hear of another american manufacturer closing its doors

Wow what a shame that is. Vaughn hammers are well known over here. Ive been keeping an eye out for one of thier hatchets ever since you did that video on them a while back.
Stores being unable to sell local stuff due to the cheapness of imports is such a shame, a well known, long running Aussie camping gear maker has been phased out of stores as they all just stock foreign made competitors now. The way of the world hey. Cheers for sharing your thoughts and making this vid

What a bummer. I feel for that town. It's hard not to think one of us could consult these companies and greatly improve the products. But the reality is that might not be enough in the modern age.
I have a half hatchet with the V & B etch. It's very special. Maybe my best etch.

I had no idea Vaughan was known across the US... My good friend's father was a chief engineer at Vaughan for 30 years, he primary designed hammers, hatchets, etc. Don't think I ever heard him talk about axes. Unfortunately he passed a few years ago from cancer so I can't ask what all he worked on.
From what I'm hearing there was a failed buy-out attempt and rather than look for more investment they are just shutting their doors. It's sad as it is one of the few decent employers in the area.

You could add Snow and Nealley to the list of USA made axes, though its a resurrected brand and bit more boutique than CT or Estwing. What a bummer about Vaughan and Bushnell! Appreciate the update and your thoughts on the state of US tool manufacturing. So what do you think of Vaughan's MiUSA hatchets? Should I snap one up or would my money be better spent on another Flying Fox?

I'm sitting not 20 miles from the Council Tools plant. I have several of their products, and know them to be good quality. Yet all the big box and chain hardware stores carry Truper from Mexico and a bunch of Chinese stuff. You actually have to go out of your way to find American made products.

That’s so cool you’re close! It is amazing how we can bring in stuff from a different country, of wildly inferior quality, at the prices we can. Makes domestic goods impossible to get to the market. Thanks for the comment!

Damn. I was just looking at a sweet little 10 or 12oz Vaughn hammer at Ganahl lumber and decided not to buy it. Looks like I’m heading back to get it today.

I love their hammers. I intend to buy 5-6 of different weights/types while I still can

I picked a few up while they’re still available! Not sure what marshalltown will do with them but I hope will still make quality tools

11:40 😅 I was listening to you in my car, after shipping a bunch of Blue Belgian Whetstones to the States 🇺🇸 and buying some bananas 🍌, I’ll finish it washing the dishes 🧽🍽️. Great content as usual mate!

I heard marshalltown ended up buying portions of Vaughan. I’m not sure about whether they will still make axes though. Hopefully they do!

Another sad day. I think Snow and Nealley is still American made, as are Brant and Cochran although they may be considered more boutique.

I keep forgetting about snow and nealy! I’d like to try out one of their axes. I’ve heard it’s decent quality. Brant and Cochran look amazing, super high finish quality.

I'm sure the spike in insurance costs added to their demise too.

Is snow and nealley back in Maine? I thought they moved back but I may be mistaken. They might just be “built in American”

Forgot about them! I think they’re still going? They have an interesting recent history. I think bought by a few times, not sure who owns them, but I believe still made in Maine
