    My first DIY eBike build is a fact, so here it is! I found it relatively easy to do, although I assume somebody with a lot less technical or DIY skills would find it a bit more challenging, but that is why I have tried my best to make the video as simple and clear to understand as possible, so it would guide you through the process! An awesome piece of kit for sure! 1000W is more than enough even for a hilly city like mine, and a 97kg rider, like myself, so flatter lands and lighter riders would see even better results! Most people would rarely need anything more powerful than this!

    A lot of those hub motors have a removable spacer where the brake rotor attaches. They are black so you might not notice it. Apparently, these almost always have to be removed or you will end up with the problem you had.

    I'm doing a rear 1000w hub motor on my mtb i fitted the controller box under my rear cargo rack for a cleaner look i will have to make a alloy plate to go under it to shield it and i have large full length plastic mud gaurds to help keep the mud away the controller looks much neater under the rack my rack bolts to the frame not the seat pole so it's all hidden I'm just looking at a battery's now but I'd like a 48V 20ah battery.

    • @eVroomer
      @eVroomer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a neat way to do it! Well done! On pretty much all 48v controllers you can probably and safely also go with a 52v battery, so that is what I would suggest. Only thing would be to keep an eye on the voltage of the pack, especially if it is shown on the display, and make sure it doesn't drop below 3v per cell.

    • @eVroomer
      @eVroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am pretty happy so far! Does not seem to be out of balance, just the rim has not been wired properly, but this is fixable, if you know how, or if you take it to someone to do it! Also... out of balance on a bike?! I've never heard that... for these speeds it needs to be some serious unbalance, which is rare! Like I said, its working well so far, have not had any issues yet! Will push it quite hard next Saturday in a special event... we will see if it will survive!

    I have that same box at 6:15. I put it on a 29 inch full suspension mountain bike…..so I decided to mount the battery on the top of the frame’ ….and I was able to remove the battery” it’s basically mounted in the same spot you would put a gas tank for a gas bike…..I had to modify the frame and drilled some holes….. I then took a piece of 2.5 wide Aluminum to hold the battery connector for more strength….I used a gas bikes motor mount to support the weight on the front part. To make a long story short I had to Soldier two bolts into the frame” to make the frame strong” I used larger bolts and screws for added support and strength.
    The bike is fast….…..because it gets up to 55MPH…..but I weigh 130 pounds….I was able to beat my 45mph gas bike with ease….on flat ground.

    • @eVroomer

      @@eVroomer I’m about to build a 3000w bike with a 72v battery, I will be using a very light $300 dollar bike with a all Aluminum frame…I already have the kit. I have a $350 dollar budget for a 26in full suspension Mountain Bike.
      The 29inch bike sold very quick….sold it for $750 dollars. The build cost $550’ because I already owned the bike.
      Can’t wait to find the bike….this bike will probably not be sold’ unless someone wants to pay $1600 for it’ Lol I might make it a fat tire bike for safety.
      I build e bikes and gas bikes as a business….the gas bikes are easy to sell….but you kinda have to make sure you sell them to someone who knows how to ride them and able to do Routine maintenance on them…selling a gas bike to the wrong person = Headaches….people think you can just jump on them and make 35mile commutes to work’ without Maintaining them’ is Unrealistic…I do not sell to those type of people unless they sign a voucher….sold as is.
      I had a guy run a gas bike into a wall and expected to bring it back and exchange it for another bike…..Lol
      I never have that problem with any of my electric bikes….so I’m phasing out my gas bikes and doing only electric bikes.

      Thanks. Actually for a while now I've been using the LiPos as weights when gluing... RC model planes! :) Almost exclusively I've moved to LiIon cells there as well! Also, LiPo cells do not have the right voltage at the end, so they will end up way over discharged when the controller finally cuts... just can't be bothered to be thinking about this... and then there is the volume-to-capacity thing... with LiIons being a good deal better in that respect as well! :)

      I do! I while back I tried a pretty extreme mountain climb with it, stock wires and connectors, and the phase connectors melted and fused together, which was a bummer, but it was expected! I was thinking to replace those before the climb but forgot... haven't used it since then, but all was good up until they melted. Should repair the wiring soon enough and have it running again! Controller could use a better air circulation than what I had done though. If you plan on pushing it hard make sure it gets adequate cooling.

    For $200 more you can buy a BBSHD with a controller rated at 1500w but is stamped 750w, making it street legal. Further, you can replace that controller with a Ludicrous controller that pushes it to 3000w. As a bonus, it also does not LOOK like it was mashed together and frankesteined. The controller is built into the motor assembly, and the kit fits 90% of the bike frames out there. For $600 plus the battery, I just dont see why anyone is trying to hobble together their own "version" of an ebike. I have 5000miles on my custom cruiser w/ 3000w BBSHD and have had ZERO issues. If you do get a BBSHD DO NOT USE ALI, Fleebay, etc......go to the #1 reseller in the US, Lunacycles. Awesome people, and knowledge.

    • @eVroomer
      @eVroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could very well be the case... but I am not a fan of mid drive systems, unless we are talking about a proper motorcycle! :) Each to his own, I guess! Also... for me at least... installing the hub was a lot easier than the mid-drive, because I didn't have to go and find, and buy all these tools needed to disassemble pedals, etc., no that I would have gotten a mid drive in the first place, like I said... not a fan of those, though the specs on this one you are referring to do sound impressive! Also... I am happy you have access to Lunacycles... but the majority of people on this planet do not live in the US!

    • @eVroomer
      @eVroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm... no, there was no resistance to it when I put it in the frame! If it doesn't want to turn even a little when powered with throttle... might indicate some issue with the hub... perhaps an internal short, or the cable somewhere! A hub not spinning almost freely could indicate phase short!

    You know I've looked at like at least 10 Videos now and no one shows how you sit the spacers from the rear wheel properly like not one video crazy ive done everything and I have one like the washers that are suppose to be on the in side and then then the ones on th3 out side and every time I tighten up my nuts lol it keeps crunching and grinding and isn't spinning like its supooze to I've tried three different frames now the original was even an original proper electric ebike I also don't have the back brake setup nor chain just yet and it still rubs add grinds

    • @eVroomer
      @eVroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmmm... good point... not sure I show that either! I have two of my washers on the inside of the frame, one on each side, because I needed to stretch it out a bit to make the brake calliper fit well, and to centre the wheel to the frame, have not seen any bending, or grinding, or screeching!

  • @megapet777
    @megapet777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Has anyone tried to buy only the motor and install it to your original wheel? I feel like it's kind of waste to buy new wheel with the motor, when you dont really need it.

    • @eVroomer
      @eVroomer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if you are buying from QS for instance, I think you can get the hub only, but then you will need to find somebody to do the work of making spokes and mating this hole thing to your wheels!

      @@jonathanbrunache3848 Well there are a number of factors that determine top speed - controller output, field weakening, hub Kv rating, etc. If I use a 1500W controller, perhaps I would reach a higher speed, but even this one seems OK! There is also the consideration of surface, tires, rider weight, and so on... and I assume somebody weighting half as much as I do, would get up to a slightly higher speed as well! It is not only a voltage thing!

    i have 1000w kit i dont recommend anybody to buy this. There are much better options like 750w geared hub or 500w geared hub, which can reach same top speed and weight of the wheel is half only , 1000w motor with wheel weights about 7 kg while 500w or 750w weighs about 3.8kg . So i dont see any point of buying this 1000w kit . Second thing this motor eats double amount of battery compared to for an example bafang 500w hub which also reaches speed of 45km per hour. And battery range will be double on 500w motor than 1000w motor.I will point to all people that are planning to buy 1000w kit that samsung 48v 30ah wont last you longer on full throttle electric only for more than 60kilometers, while on 500w motor will last you 120 km. I know this things because i sometimes work as food delivery and i have both 1000w and 500w motors.
