    Our Story:
    We are four years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
    Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
    with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
    pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
    organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
    to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
    has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our
    journey!

    This pond has not turned out like we planned but we're hopeful we can fix it. If you missed it and would like to see it when it's completely full, check out this video: th-cam.com/video/4xWsXtjsCkQ/w-d-xo.html

    You DO want to "seal it good", and then put in a proper water control over flow pipe and an emergency spillway. Keep the videos coming!

      It would be great if we got a complete seal. Bought a little pond boat today so we're close to actually applying the sealer. Thanks for watching. B&D

    Well, I’ve certainly been there! I hope the product you’ve chosen works well for sealing up your soil. A pond is such a great addition to a homestead! Great video!

      We were happy it was as deep as it was....just back from the farm and it's at 5', but it's had a little rain lately to refresh it. We're hopefully the Damit and bentonite combo will seal that sandy end. Eventually, our house gutters will send even more water to it. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

    Throw organic matter in the pond. Collect your grass clippings, throw in the pond. If you ever collect leaf piles or any type of organic matter as such throw it in the pond. It will eventually decompose creating a gel/glaze that seals your pond. Get some fish in there too. You want their waste / life/death cycles. All this is organic matter that over time will help seal your pond nicely.
    Love the good inspiring content.

      We'll have to look into that. Hopefully the polymer fixes it....just haven't had any time to apply it yet. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

    Captain obvious here, just want to let you guys know they make these things called boats. They come in all different styles and sizes. You can even make one using 2 pieces of PVC pipe 8 to 10in in diameter and about 5 ft long and a sheet of wood metal or plastic on top. Lol.

    I watched your video on FB, this how i found you.
    What brought me to YT was i wanted to see the test on your Benonite and if itvworked or not.
    Well, did it work, are u holding water?
    What ive been seeing is you are now, u have too much water?

    Excellent info. Did you guys test areas for clay before digging? We want to dig one but after seeing this how do you know where to put it?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We kinda went by the seat of our pants. You can take samples of your clay and see if it holds water in a glass tube. TBH, if we had thought about it, we would have put some Damit in the bottom when it was dry along with some bentonite and had the dozer pack it in. We really thought we would hit a spring though but didn't. Our pond location was a natural depression on our land. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

    Hope the Damit works. I'll be curious to see the results.. Great idea to put a depth guage in.
    Sure you've already researched this, but just in case...how about a plastic liner? Not sure the cost, but I've seen places that have used one.
    Thanks for the updates.

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I priced a "medium duty" custom liner and it was $12K, so that's approaching the price of moving real clay! We'll definitely keep the channel posted on progress. If nothing else, it will be a fun video applying it! Take care. B&D

      You're head still would have been above water!! Water was nice and cool....it's just got some clay particles that need to settle else it would be clear too. One day we want to put a zip line across it. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

    Just looked up damit and the product spec says expected life in soil 5 years + (hardly a damming endorsement) pardon the pun. Surely you wouldn't want to keep applying the product and the ongoing expense that would attract

      It's an experiment and cheaper than redoing the whole pond.

    I’m lining my pond right now with clay because it won’t hold water. Did the Damnit work??

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our application video will air August 11th. We applied it in May and it appears to really have slowed the leakage. Our application wasn't perfect due to wind, so we have 1/2 to apply again soon. I was there today and it was holding at 5' on the marker. Too soon to say "YES" it works but I'm thinking it's definitely helping. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

      @@PineyGroveHomestead great, glad it’s helping! We lined mine with 6-8” of clay throughout the entire pond. Fingers crossed it works when the water comes in. If not I’ll be getting bentonite clay and or damnit. Look forward to your findings. Thank you very much for sharing.

      @@mmiles6015 mixing some Damit with the clay might have been some good insurance.
