      hi Ruben glad to see you watch the video. You don’t want that chain to break you should do it before it does. Make sure you get the timing kit. It’s not an absolute must but it certainly will make it easier.. much easier.... I bought a cheap one it made it lineup extremely close.
      Although if I had it to do over again I probably would I have bought a little better one than one I did.

    Thanks for the video. I'm in middle of rebuilding 4.2 super hard w same configuration as your motor . I followed the shop manual and all the steps to time the motor. After I remove the key and locking blocks I spun the motor by hand and the key hole is slightly off . Is this normal ? I've done this twice now and I'm not certain it's correct . And advice would be great

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I do believe it is if I remember correctly it’s been a couple of years. This season on the show we’re actually doing a 6.2 swap on that LR three so that should be really interesting.
      That engine ran great for a number of years and then I’ve let it overheat one time and now it’s poo. Poo. … I bought another one for it but I just recently decided that my 6.2 driveline would be much cooler inside that…. So we’re gonna do a sponsored build this year.

      My motor never overheated . I had 235k miles on it and gave it to a speed shop to freshen up. I've never timed a motor like this and don't know if what I did is correct . As you can imagine I'm paranoid to close it up and reassemble the car. Are you I Florida ? I'm really in a spot here cause I can't find anyone to help me out.

    I have a 4.2 Supercharged and am trying to get the head bolts out, but it feels like something is going to break! I got the 2 middle ones on the left head to crack, but wont turn so far. I'm so afraid to put more pressure because the breaker bar and small extension on the impact 13mm socket moves almost 45 degrees and still not turning. I've broken 1/2 inch drive breaker bar before, many years ago, and it reminds me of this. Not sure if it's the breaker bar, small extension, or, my biggest fear, the actual head bolt twisting that far without breaking loose? Ugh!!!! If the bolt breaks, then the untorque sequence is screwed and may warp or crack the head before getting the others loosened during the un torquing sequence. It's not like you can squirt some liquid wrench in there. That's the most Q's I've ever typed in one sitting!!!!!!!

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First I would try to break loose every single bolt before I take them out and get all of them broke loose at one time then start removing them . Also I wouldn’t think anything about breaking the bolts because it’s not gonna matter you have to get the head off.
      And I would have to think that the bolts would not break off flush with the block . So once the pressure is removed I would assume you would be able to get the bolts out.
      No I don’t know if the 4.2 is the same as the 4.4 but worst case scenario I would have to guess you may end up removing the cams and cutting the head bolts off that’s very rare but possible.
      Hopefully some of that helps you sorry to take so long to answer
      That’s a lot of Q’s lol

      @@sharpcarco I did it this morning when it was much cooler and was successful at removing them all in the un torque sequence. Thanks for the feedback. The heads are now at the machine shop for the next 4 or 5 days. Time for the clean up and prep work.

    Hi Clay, thank you for the LR3 videos. I am a new DIY guy wrenching on my LR3 4.4L engine. I am trying to change my head gaskets. I have the valve covers off, and ready to go further. I am worried about messing up timing when removing the cams to get to the heads. Can I mess up my timing by changing the head gasket?

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I appreciate the kind words you definitely have to remove all of the timing to do the head gaskets. Because you will not be able to seal up the front timing cover correctly after removal or during removal and if for whatever reason the timing actually moved you would not know it even if there was a way to hold it during the procedure at least that I am aware of. So better be safe than sorry if you’re doing the head gasket you have to remove just about everything like I was doing in the video of removing the engine
      Unfortunately I do not have a video I’m just doing that.
      My LR three head gaskets blew last week but I’m going to swap out the engine because I have another one.
      That is an extremely complicated job if you believe you can do it I’m certain you can.
      I personally prefer not to do it that’s why I’m not removing mine and doing just a head gaskets.

    hi fella's. i don't want to be doom and gloom, but i've been watching loads of these videos as i have mine to do and at 7minutes in i was looking at the two cogs on the crank shaft and noticed the teeth are lined up. other videos have mentioned that they should not line up as they have dots on one side and they have to be a certain way round.just thought i should mention it.

Most of the Jaguars (S-Type, XJ, XK up to around 2010) used the 3.9 (Lincoln LS)/4.0 & 4.0 supercharged/4.2 & 4.2 supercharged. The Range Rover, sport, and LR3 (3rd gen Discovery) all used the 4.4 version from 2006-2009. RR SC used the 4.2 SC as well.
