When they start this rattle, is it effective to just replace the tensioner? Seems like that would be the start. Or an 'improved' tensioner. If such a thing has been created. Good effort Mr. Clay. Thanks for posting. Anybody chime in please.
Well, it’s a lot of work to get that apart so I don’t know I’ll be that’s the only thing I would do but then the parts are really expensive so it’s hard to say
Hi, thought the 4.4 was least problematic engine and didn't really need guides cf. the 5.0? Or was this not well maintained? Many thanks for any help 😃
@@sharpcarco thank you 🙏 so much for the info. mine is making that noise for a second when i first start it in the morning but it’s quite afterwards or any other time I start it after running the engine for a while. Since it doesn’t trigger any fault codes, I only found out about the noise a couple days after Purchasing the truck. The previous owner made sure the engine was warm when I inspected the truck. Running some thinner 5w20 oil made the noise a little better. Was the other engine good after you fixed the chain tensioner, or was there any permanent damage from driving it like that for 30k miles ?
@@williesociate I've owned several D1s, D2s still have my 99 D2 that just needs some TLC. Also, never ever buy a used Range Rover unless it has a warranty. I purchased a 2003 L322 and it was great when it ran but it was basically a BMW total headache.
Got my lr3 v6 in for the same problem. Good video

Was it making a rattle noise for a quick second or two on a cold start ?
Yes, but the other engine that I put in it has been making the same noise for the last 30,000 miles……

you don't even have to loosen the cam, just take the bolt loose to the cam gear on the exhaust side. tensioner will come right out
That's hAwt
Wife material right thurrrr
Thanks for sharing this - sounds way easier!
How much would it cost to change it?
Well, it’s a lot of money and not very cheap to change. Sorry I couldn’t tell you. I don’t run a retail repair shop.
Awesome... thinking of getting 1
Don't, they're total garbage. They have serious problems with upper and lower control arms plus the air suspension.
@@72Disco1998 lolz thanks bro. I didn't again. Went for gx470 instead

@@72Disco1998 great machines once running smoothly, but can be a nightmare if not serviced regularly by previous owners.
how much will a shop charge (parts and labor )to replace a timing chain on a 2005 range rover HSE ?
a fortune.....
Do you have a video of the way it sounded before you added the tensioner
No sorry I do not.
What did it sound like?
The Clay Way was it like a clicking noise?
noah nylander Yes it was like a clicking noise
The Clay Way thank you for the response I had a similar clicking noise...ended up being a completely shot idler pulled bearing lol
hoping your spanner part didn't fall in the engine. christ what were the chances of that falling apart. give it back to snap on with a bollocking.
