I mean, segregation is probably necessary until the kids are older, imagine a school bully with super strength or who can fly, you can’t defend yourself against that
I could see that if the kids were actually fully segregated. there are examples in the film where someone with combat-appropriate powers using them against someone who doesn't have the power to defend.
Re: The Dutch angles: There are two things that come to mind why they were used so often in this film, the fact that the filmmakers were trying to emulate comic book panels (in which these angles were commonly used) and the Batman 1966 TV series. I saw this movie on cable and thought it was a lot of fun. Suspension of belief is definitely the order of the day for the reasons given in this review, but it's still a very watchable film. I had heard that there was a sequel planned but was dropped because the film didn't do as well at the box office as hoped. I think this would have been better as a TV series, especially with the HS/growing up/rites of passage we all associate with similar properties (like BTVS).
How do you have so little subscribers??? While I was watching your kf2 video I was like this guys prob a heard reaching 10k youtuber but when i saw you had 300 subs i had to double check! I thought the dutch angles were to give it an off "comic book" feeling, and I thought it worked. You wouldn't do this in a normal movie, but in a goofy fun super hero comic booky movie, it gives it some character. I also thought the gaudy super heroes were on purpose. They've got form over function going on, so much so that their suits don't even look all that great. Their hubris, as super powered beings, is also on full display. Their personalities, their one dimensional nature, and of course, Steve bringing that eyeball in. It's sloppy, because he's never lost, and doesn't actually care about security. The Muahaha my son is of COURSE going to be a super hero like me, and the eye ball, are basically the same thing. His view of himself and his life is obviously warped by being who he is. I don't think they've ever fought a villain who could win. The house roof thing has always bothered me, but I take it as him TOUCHING the house, while still flying, not actually landing on it, which could never work.
I’ve always loved this movie and I was surprised that I still loved it years later. Plus I get to see actors and actresses that still are success in TV shows and movies in the present.
I want to hear your take on that "Sky high is a metaphor for eugenics" thing floating around. Or at least your brief thoughts if you have anything to say. I'd imagine that might raise an eyebrow or two.
It’s a pretty interesting movie, I like the concept of the movie and simplicity of it, there is a lack of tension going on but the beauty of it are the character dialogues and overall super powers interaction.
the power segregation makes more sense when you consider that having them all be in schools where you can teach them to be heroes is a lot better than just leaving it to chance, even if it would be better if it wasn't just high school so they have less time to form opposing ideals
Perhaps she did lose her memories when she got turned into a baby but her minion retold her and she made a invention to fully remember? Or maybe the explosion caused a defferent effect though as it was explained it is still a issue
Great breakdown, though I disagree that we should compare the segregation of race to segregation of people with super powers who could accidentally kill someone and are thusly sent to a school for heroes with a different curriculum and different faculties to protect them... I mean in the first scene with have ice lady freezing a bunch of creeps. Can you IMAGINE the lawsuits in a normal school not meant to deal with stuff like that?
I remember this movie from when I was a kid too. It is a good movie it's not high art but for something to kill a couple hours what more could u ask for.
